Textured bolt heads add an impressive statement to any piece.

They can be made with only a few tools, and are a great project for beginners. The 5 - Clout design is one of my favorites, and can be done with any size bolt or piece (depending on your forge!)
Music is by The Johnny Staats Project. These guys are really amazing, I have been enjoying their music for years... you can buy their album here.

I wish you were my neighbor. I love listening to you share your knowledge in your clever articulate way. I have learned so much from your videos. I am a 20 year machinist and you remind of all the veteran tool and die makers I worked with when I was a young man. They had so much knowledge experience and wisdom. Thank you so much for sharing your life's work with all of us watching.

you remember Bob Villa?.... you and your sons... and your long list of friends and community that come together to bring this information in a package of an exceptional and clean example...... is beyond profoundly important. even a Great Father cannot give all the advice or knowledge a man needs... it takes the entire community...and it takes the veneration of a good example. Many people out there are fatherless sons and daughters... The example you are providing is good for those of us who had the best dads... and should be considered the greatest blessing to those who did not have a dad at all. Lots of moms out there without a good example to point them at.. ... the service you provide should be well known.. and your name healthily lifted up to that end... not over honored or falsified to your detriment or any other.... but well known and readily available. I think most of your viewers would strongly agree with me.. I think you should post your name up there with Essential Craftsman.. maybe your sons too... on every page.. and make sure if someone types your name in a search bar these videos will come up.... from how to use a ladder... to blacksmithing... to your favorite tools... they are the topics of men.. and you are doing a good job of representing them and the true value of what was once very rightly touted as American Heritage. Very sincerely and respectfully, thank you. please keep it truly clean... no false judgement evaluation, or trickery... just good and strong. I am going to send them your way.

Thanks Robb! Actually, we are about to post a couple more ...one on anvils (a very safe topic) and a video comparing square vs round concrete stakes. I was a carpenter long before I was a blacksmith, and frankly have much more information on construction topics! In any case, I hope that this variation is not a disappointment!

Noticed that you quenched one of the bolts. What do you do to ensure the integrity of the tensile and shear strength of the bolts. Bolt strength would of course be extremely important if using them in any structural application. Beautiful shop. Thanks Dave Plowman Plowman Forge Tampa, FL

Hi, How do you deal with the zinc outgassing off of galvanized bolts?
@1agates

Use distilled vinegar instead. Let the bolts soak overnight. It strips the zinc right off.

Yes I do! First get in touch with the Blacksmith Association that includes the your area in it's borders, then go to their conferences. Second go to the websites - Anvilfire.com... and... I Forge Iron.com... they are terrific. Third right here on RU-vid start watching Mark Aspery's forging videos and order his books. He is simply the very best at both forging AND teaching how to forge. You are gonna love it!
