Hey Mumbo, I'd like to mention that as well as having renamed items in the key card reader, you can also use written books, which is THE most secure item in the game. This is not only because of the sheer number of different things you can write in the book, but also because the id changes based on who signs the book. So if you wrote a book that said "Mumbo is a Spoon" and someone else wrote a book with the same thing, they wouldn't stack because the usernames would be different. So all you'd have to do is write a few identical books and put them in the card reader device. Now only someone who has the EXACT same book will be accepted by the card reader. (Sorry for the long explanation)
i dont know that much... but i know that if there is something in the hopper, it will send a 1 block signal until there is 23 items, which means it turns into a 2 block signal and so on. thats how item sorters function Also hoppers actually keep the items and not send the items if their powered
Here's a challenge: build a combination lock where the combination constantly changes, but it's always possible to know the right combination. I've built a 1-wide tile-able version that uses an XOR gate and dispenser PRNG, and it grows exponentially more secure the more rows you add. My design shows users a random number, and the user must enter a combination such that the random number XOR'd with the input combination equals the internally programmed secret number. However, my design was around 22 blocks long by 9 tall, and was a bit slow due to the 1-wide XOR gate.

Mumbo, Your old feed tape has new uses with shulker box locks. All you need is a set number of items in each shulker. This also reduces the size of your new color code locks.

I have an idea. A redstone cake dispenser that uses a hopper sorting system, so that if each of the four chests gets each of the four foods used to making cakes in Minecraft, you'd get the cake. And a redstone cookie dispenser, that's pretty much the same thing, except with two chests. Make it like the sorting system you used in the hidden base tutorial.
And wire every single one of them to a T-flipflop that wires to an Ant Gate to only unlock a single door. Plus a "/gamemode adventure @a". That was actually great.
I made a modern mansion base, put some of your micro farms in it, and then added a secret room by using the underground hopper minecart entrance system, then adding another layer of security by using farmland to hide a lever. That led to some ordinary netherite armour, but using an item frame lock and an unplaced button, I made a hidden room inside a hidden room with beastly netherite armour, tools and bows.
There is an easier, less complicated way to do the inventory/item frame locks that doesn't require additional items. Just run the redstone line out to the specific length +1. Correct 'lock position' has a redstone torch on the side of the block, the +1 signal length has a repeater as from the block. Both the torch & repeater connect to an adjacent redstone line with torch output. for the item frame it's 1 signal length per additional rotation, as for the inventory locks(chest, dropper, dispenser, jukebox etc...) the tolerances for +1 signal strength can be between 15 items - 2 stacks depending upon the inventory used.
Thomas Ruijs you are right depending on the situation since the name combinations are infinite unless there is a word limit and universe is also infinite

I don't play on grief protected servers(they are boring). I play on anarchy where the world never gets reset and players can do what ever they want without punishment(hack, cheat, steal, lie). Every build will get griefed eventually, but that's the sandcastle mentality, it's very enjoyable.
Cool ideas, though I personally prefer using basic lever combination locks like MagaMusen details in one of his videos. Nice, simple, secure, and by adding an additional lever to the back end you can secure the lock so no one else can enter, even when the correct combination is input.
I fixed it: you need to update the comparator with a sticky piston + block facing downwards (on the outside of the construction). the piston needs to be connecten to the redstone up top so it updates the comparator with every push of the button ;)
ACoolMinecraftGuy This is a known bug, comparators don't get updated when a piston moves a cauldron and there is a block between them. Easy fix is putting the comparator directly adjacent the cauldron.
The color combination design can be easily determined without breaking any blocks. All you need is a comparator and keeping cycling the colors until you get an output, since comparators read through blocks. once you know where the signal is, you can keep cycling it around for the proper combination. I would advice leaving 1 block of air between the blocks, so people cant cheat the system :P.

Mumbo there are not more combinations in the naming an item system than particles in the universe... There are uncountable particles and as there are a certain number of letters/numbers you can put on a item it is countable!!!

Mumbo, you should do a video where you build a super fortress base that combines these security systems with your unbreakable wall system so that even those smarty pants can't mine or blow up their way into it from any direction.
i made a 6 - lever combination lock to my other half of my bunker and it was medium redstone it was just loads of AND gates and lots of inverting redstone torches and it was worth using my brain to do it!
pretty nice ideas mumbo, you actually compacted the conventional item detector design a lot! btw you should try doing redstone computer stuff like ALUs and GPUs I'm sure you've heard of them if u have done computing

am I the only one who noticed mumbo was 100% wrong when he said more combinations then there are particles in the universe? that would mean there would be over 1 centilion combinations or 1 with 303 zeros behind it and yeah there are a lot of possible outputs but mumbo sir not THAT many
Would it be possible to make a horizontal and vertical feed tape combination lock where you have to rotate the horizontal line to the correct position so that the "key" block is even in the vertical line and then you still have to move the vertical line around to the correct position to output the correct signal? If it does work, it would be cool if you could include it in a video about how it would work or a better way to do it, or if not then just ignore all of this lol
I'm trying to make a hidden piston door that uses "key cards" (named name tags) to unlock and open the piston door, then I want to close and lock the door with the combo lock reseting itself until I want to unlock the door, open it, exit through it and have it close and lock behind me upon exit.
I decided to calculate the amount of possibilities that there are for item locks. Considering that you can use all 10 number digits, 26 uppercase letters, 26 lowercase letters, 33 special characters, and all 361 items in minecraft, you get a total of "7.74845937834e+61." If someone could translate this number that would be fantastic
i know how comparators work EVERYBODY LISTEN UP! I AM THE REDSTONE PRO HERE ok so comparators give a certain amount of power to the redstone depending on the items stored in the container next to it the more items stored the more power it gives and also if comparators are behind a block that has an item frame if there is an item in the item frame it has 8 rotations the north south west east south west south east north west north east and if it is facing up the comparator will give 1 redstone power until it goes to the second rotation that will give it enough power for two redstone until up and up and up and you can change where it is facing by right clicking it!
Hey Mumbo, the color combination lock doesn't work properly, look at 8:30, the comparator keeps the signal on because it is not given any update. You need to put it on the side or to give it an update to actually turn the end signal down :)
How does the 'card reader' work?? It looks like it's just a dropper connected to a hopper, lamp, and comparator. How do you like- program it or anything?
