Use this simple method to tie down your canteen or other equipment. It provides a secure tie down while allowing you to remove the tie down to fill your canteen and treat contaminated water. Use this method for other equipment. Enjoy!
I’m amazed how many videos you have... I must mention... you definitely have a gift for teaching... you are so good at explaining everything and showing as a follow through... when you’ve done those special knots, everything looks so clean and neat and purposeful...
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, in the era of the LCE, our tie-downs were very similar except for the end going to the Utility belt had to consist of a square knot with two half hitches. I have been retired for several years and miss the Airborne and Ranger communities so much. Watching some of your videos brings back a lot of memories. I even broke out my emergency spool of 550 to tie knots along with the video. Both of my kids could tie a bowline when they were around eight years old. Now they are 18 and 21 and have drastically more important things on their minds.
I was searching for a "bottle sling" this is the best simple method, Why does everyone else have to make a half hour video production out of this?🤠🤠🤠fastest bowline tie down I've ever seen? Thanks.
nothing in this world eases my mind than a good old fashioned Barney style breakdown. learned all this shit in the marines but awesome break down none the less.
I used something similar on vacation, except I used a Canadian jam knot on the canteen end. Stays tight, but is easy to loosen when needed. I liked your wrapping around the neck Technique to keep from looking like an octopus.
Glad to see that you lastly loosened the cap and let the now chemically infused water drip over the neck of the canteen. To neglect to do this could mean you still ingest contaminants that are one the neck of the canteen. I know you realize this and have properly treated your water, but I suspect viewers who are not veterans may not understand what you were doing. Thanks for all the great videos you have been producing.
Awesome new way to tie the rabbit came out of the hole and etc. Thanks for showing. I'm with you on the OCD side too and like the way you are disciplined
Love the video it was easy quick and simple from a pro the ties knots of hours...lol as a privious comemmeter mentioned you a very good teacher, some of have watched videos where you have exlpained what you have done and what you do as much as you can, and know why your get the big money honey....:) This old lady loves your videos and you....alwasy a fan...take of yourself while you do your day job....
I put a bight in the rope, then I hold the working end in the same fingers I use to twist that first loop (or crossing turn). That way, in one motion, the "rabbit" is already out of the hole. I'll use this tie-down on my gear, thanks, Andrew. Great content
dummy cords. Ah yes, I remember them well. Saved me from losing a 2 Qt. off my ruck. I dummy-corded my NODs also after almost leaving a pair on an HLZ at SAPPER School.
Good tip. I guess you could use the jam knot for the canteen attachment and not have to worry about it slipping/loosening but that's an extra knot to fuss with. What chest rig are you running there? Nate
The rig is the TAPS system (tactical assault panel) issued with plate carriers and IOTVs as standard issue. It’s nice as a simple cheat rig for basic gear carry in a permissive environment. A go to for all ruck marches for sure.
Great tip and well explained. What's your opinion of the old military metal canteens and the new stainless ones? I find them faster to boil water in than a little at a time in a cup
I'm a fan of the canteen cup, probably because I was raised on it. For my every day wilderness kit I'll carry that unless I know I'm going to an area that may require a larger water source carry.
Must be a whole lot of stealing going on if you have to put strings on everything :) I am OCD as well and put strings on my ups and downs to keep me together. Subscribed good info, thx!
The way I’ve gone about that before, especially since I’ve had to tie down almost everything, end of the line Bowlin around the object and tightened down. Then wrap with tape. Usually objects tied down like that are sensitive items, radios and batteries, gps, etc.
Andrew, may I ask a question, please? Do you think making a glue stick part of your survival kit could be a good idea. Obviously you wouldn'to have the glue gun but I feel there _are_ things that could be done with a little piece of glue that _could_ be heated up one way or another.
I may not be Andrew, but, I did spend twenty years in the Airborne and Ranger communities I can not speak for a glue stick as I have never tried to incorporate one into my kit. However, I can tell you two of the things that shooters often carry that many civilians are not usually aware of are a small tube of super glue for sealing small cuts, and tampons for plugging holes. We carried these at the beginning of the war when all that the individual Soldiers had was a field dressing. This was prior to the introduction of the IFAK. Both items could fit in a first-aid dressing pouch. We would also usually put in a large safety pin with a small piece of illume tape on the pouch flap.
Did they ever teach you the French bowline knot in Ranger school, you are a lot younger than I and I don’t know if they were still telling stupid jokes when you went through, but the Army is extremely repetitive so they might have. RLTW!
Never learned the French Bowline while in the course. There were definitely jokes, but I was droning pretty good toward the end so I don't recall most of them! RLTW!
@@RangerSurvivalandFieldCraft I remember being so tired , we started a ruck run and I don’t remember any of it just tripping and falling down 3/4 of the way through it. I think I was asleep the whole time. Worst days and the best days at the same time. The joke was the instructor would start teaching you a new knot, he would have you make three loops two small one larger, and then have you put the larger center loop in your mouth, and start laughing and tell the group he knew we were all cock suckers. Like I said stupid joke, and we were all so intent on learning we didn’t even realize he was messing with us. Take care and thanks for the videos.
