I couldn’t sleep last night so I put my earbuds in and watched this as my hubby was sleeping and at least 3 times I burst into laughter. Finding your RU-vid channel makes my heart happy. Arne is like a little kid, munching on almonds and cleaning the whipped cream bowl ( a trait I share lol ) and Carlos got into the crumb mixture. Love you both , from Cape Breton NS 💕🇨🇦
Oh my goodness!! We make this on a regular basis. Especially using ground up vanilla wafers and stewed strawberry rhubarb and whipped cream. Layers look so beautiful in a glass bowl. It’s a family favourite taught to my sister and I by our Norwegian mom. I’ll have to try the apple version. You made my day extra happy. Tusen takk.
Ooh god to read you can also make this with strawberry and rhubarb, I can't really have (a lot of) apple. So good to know there a proper Norwegian approved alternatives 😉
This doesn't look outdated to me...it looks delicious! I think I will try some version of this ! You might put the whipped cream in a piping bag and then you could pipe it in the glasses with no mess!
I was thinking the same thing. Canada here. I have always baked it in a 8"×8" pan with apples, a bit of sugar, and the topping contains brown sugar and butter with oats and sometimes flour. It is crunchy on top, can be served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. I do want to try the Norwegian version!
I just love "Tilslørte Bondepiker" and it never went out of fashion in my family. But... we always serve it in one big glas bowl. Maybe that's old fashion... but who cares! :-)
We make a thing called apple crisp, where you throw sweetened apples in a glass pan and put crunch mixture on top (I make it with oatmeal, butter and honey) and bake it until the apples are done. Then serve with whipped cream. I guess we did it to use up oven space/time when baking something else.
It's a bit like "apple crisp" that we make especially in the Fall. 🇨🇦 Sliced apple with cinnamon and brown sugar with a topping made with oats, sugar & butter and baked in the oven. Usually served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.
I’m so excited for this new series! Though I may never make the recipes I see, I’m always excited to learn a new technique that I can maybe use, and old recipes are wonderful to learn from. This looks like something I’d love! Will most likely make it. My motto with cooking is always “ugly is still delicious “ so my presentation skills probably won’t look any better 😂
This is a Christmas staple in our family. My dad grew up having it made by his Norwegian grandmother and mother. And he carried in the tradition making it for our family Christmas’s too. He uses spiced cookies for the crumbs. So delicious
I love apple anything. This dessert reminds me of one that would be made by farm families, maybe in autumn. Fresh cream from the cow, homemade butter, apples from their orchard, and leftover bread made into crumbs. The best of the best !
Many years ago in the 1960’s when I was at college studying to become a Home Economics teacher we made this dessert. It was called Danish Peasant Girl with a Veil! I haven’t made it since. I will make it soon! Love your RU-vid videos. Best wishes from South Africa 🇿🇦
I was going to say this recipe seems like a version of apple crisp but actually it’s more likely that apple crisp is a version of tislørte bondepiker. Sounds delicious!
I learned to make it 45 years ago in Norway, and it never went out of fashion here in Austria, as my children love it! To make it properly "tilslört" my last layer is cream. I also use dry sponge cake or plain, crumbled biscuits. Thanks for your video !
Arne and Carlos this vlog was so much fun, and the out of fashion dessert looked delicious. Thank you so much. Hope you both have a great week. Please pet Freya and Helmer for me
Yum! I'm sure some other Danes here have mentioned it, but it's is just like the Danish æblekage! Just need a dollop of ribsgelé on top. I've had it many times in DK, and the old Danes love it here in Seattle. 😊 It's so lækkert! Thanks for sharing!
Yum! The dessert looks delicious! I love that you are doing a cooking podcast! Sometimes your Sunday tutorials are a bit beyond my knitting skill level, so this was a great treat! Bravo!!
Ohhh, I needed to put on a bib for this episode!😋 Drooling! Yummi dessert! This is a very old Nordic dessert, made with several variations from country to country, region to region. In Denmark for instance, many use crumbled rye bread toasted crisp with butter. Some also use e.g. strawberry jam as a layer. When we make it in our house, we don't whip the cream as stiff as you guys did. We whip until the cream is beginning to firm but is still smooth. That will, 1. do something very nice for the experience when you put it in your mouth (like velvet) - and 2. It makes the dessert look even more delicious when layered with the other goodies☕ Can't wait to see what you will make next!!😋😋😋 Hugs from Dille, Denmark🇩🇰
My family is mainly of Danish origin, and we have made this every year for Christmas Eve dessert. My grandmother called it æblekage. We always top it with small spoonfuls of raspberry or red currant jelly, which adds a nice zing and a pretty color. It is delicious, and it’s my sister’s favorite. (Ps it is usually better the next day after it has chilled in the refrigerator.). (Also, the word you’re looking for is bread crumbs.)
I worked in a Swedish smorgasbord restaurant about 40 years ago. One of my jobs was to make this dessert. The customers loved it! Thanks for sharing this recipe.
I love watching you two in the kitchen as well as Knit for a Bit. Tonight I made your Tilslorte Bondepiker for my husband and son, using Graham wafer crumbs; both my husband and son agree I need to make it again because it was so good. My son wants the recipe. Thank you for sharing your recipes
I have added whipped cream and panko crumbs to my grocery list. I think I will add some slivered almonds for extra crunch. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
Wow! Such a simple and quick recipe__gotta try it soon! 💖 You, two, are so fun to watch! This was definitely something new from you__looking forward to learning more dishes. Thanks so much! 💖🙌🙌🙌😺
We also had this dessert -lots of times -in the late 70's 🙂in Groningen. We called it "Danish apple cake" and we didn't bother with the layers at all. It was just the smothered apple, than the crumble on top (sometimes with roasted and roughly chopped walnuts added) and than the cream and extra cinnamon to finish. In big soup bowls .Hahaha. Yummy! Love your presentation. Can't wait till the next dessert . Bye bye
Surprise, this is a recipe my Mother often made. We lived in the Adelaide hills in South Australia and apples are abundant. If I remember, Mum would put cinnamon into the apples as well as the beautiful crunch topping.
I want to eat this NOW. We have a few apple trees and I'm always looking for apple recipes .Carlos, I thought you were going to have to make more crunch as you were enjoying so much. OK presentation was 'Rustic' but hay ho! The taste is what really matters. This is a winner⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I just love watching you two together…whether knitting or cooking! Your dessert sounds delish and I can’t wait to try it. Thanks again-as usual you made my day!
The next time we make this let's put the whipped cream in a piping bag, then pipe it on top of the apples so Arne won't be disappointed with the glasses. 😀
Another delicious recipe to make with our grandaughter, Alice! She is five now and she and I made your "Brown Sticks" at Christmas. They were delicious and I know this will be too. Keep 'em coming!
I have seen the recipe for this in my mothers old cookbooks. She never made this that I remember but I was thinking too that it must have been a great way to recycle stale bread. I liked how crunchy the crumb mixture sounded after it was cooked. I could hear Carlos crunching on it. 😁Thanks guys!
Thank you :) I just made some simple but delicious breakfest, inspired on this video. For the crumble, I used oatmael. And for the cream I used, i'm not sure how it's called in English, "soft Cheese". A dairy product, thicker than yoghurt but more liquid than quark. Oh and in stead of water, I used the juice of an old orange that was waisting away :)
That looks REALLY good! I love apple desserts...or fruit...or chocolate. Yeah, not choosy at all. I love Arne saying "More Butter!" and Carlos eating the crunchy breadcrumbs. You guys are so much fun to watch! Thank you for sharing!
That must taste similar to apple crumble. Love using apples that have a bit of tartness when baking. 🙂 Those portions are probably the size we "should" be eating, but are never what we want to be eating lol.
Looking forward to more Norwegian recipes. My Mor used to make this . There seemed to never be enough since it was so good even though she would use like 1/2 a bushel of apples.
I know this dessert! The first time I visit Danmark I did eat it. It was in 1989..o my gosh time flies.... My best friend was just moved back to Hillerød. One evening we visited her uncle and aunt for dinner. The dessert was this dish you made. At first I found it a bit strange...but after one bite I was in love with it....it was delicious 😋 I even had a second portion 🤭 Thank you for sharing this recipe and for the memories it brought back ❤ Wishing you a lovely week 🌷☀️
I live in Western Canada. My ex was Danish. Whenever we had company for diner, he would make Danish Apple Cake in a big cut glass bowl. Pretty sure it is the same thing!
You guys bring a smile to my face when i see you've post a video. When my 3 boys were little I would serve our desserts in martini glasses cause it made all of us feel special. jThanks
Love you all and the recipe. My German nanny used to make just the apples with cinnamon and sugar for me as a treat. Thank you for sharing. I will be making as a treat for my husband for tonight.
Oh Lord, this dessert can't go old fashioned, never. Yummie !!! Now I must go into the kitchen to prepare this. Arne, nice that you remember to save Carlos from fire. 👍🤣🤣🤣 Carlos, when you began: now we will open a new.... I thought, you will joke to say "tin". 🤣🤣🤣 Wish you a nice new week, stay safe and we will enjoy "Tilslørte bondepiker" . Thanks for the recipe. 😍👍☕🏆
