@@akekestory493 not in high school. No defensive 3 seconds, allows dominant bigs to play rim protector a lot easier than in a 3-2. Also they have the same weakness except when you beat a 2-3 a good middle will notice and call it out, while the middle parts of a 3-2 are expected to call out the middle and corners(overloaded by design) and frankly hs talent shouldn’t be expected to succeed in that situation
1000% my guy. Too bad the senior boys bball coach already made up his choice on who’s on the team and who’s not on it halfway through the first tryout😢😢. Fucking high school politics
@@cajeb5396 legit 😂. At least 50 kids after the tryouts said I should’ve made it. When the choice came up to re-tryout (because they were short players) I said screw that, I’m gonna make bank instead.😂
I didn't try out for the team this year bc I felt like I wasn't good enough but with your tips and the amount of work I have been putting in I feel like I can make the team. Thanks! Update: I didn't make the team... I broke my leg during scrimmage so that sucks
@@dwortpvp5048i hope so, i got cut even tho i was one of the tallest guys and had good defense and got boards, that coach straight up had favorites and now i heard they got rid of him recently 😂 karma goes around comes around huh, and now im trying out again
@@macysondheimwe didn’t have a coach during our scrimmages watching us they were watching all the kids that were on the team last year and they made up stuff on our “report cards” for how we did on our tryout. every person on our court got the same stuff from the coaches because they didn’t know what we were doing. i think at least half of us could’ve made the team over the people that the coaches already knew
Even tho I ain’t make the team, I became manager and played on A team a couple of games, even in open gym coach told me I had to replace someone on B team. Always tried to join in on the drills and prove what I can do
Every team needs a glue guy. Takes no talent to stay down in a defensive stance, talk, box out, and sprint in transition (offensive and defensive). Be quick and decisive with offensive decisions and make your layups. Lastly, believe in yourself and don’t worry what your friends that won’t make the team are doing
man you helped me last year and i still watch you about 5 times a day and then after work on my game, you have always helped me and i thank you so much.
Was my teams guard dog in 5th grade, cause i always panicked when i had to score, but my stamina was perc tier so all i knew how to do was full court press..the entire game. Coach just said dont let that lil nigga get by you and we'd win every game. We went undefeated and i dont remember ever scoring. Point: ion remember
This guy is great you helped me make the team thanks I was the only one talking on defense so the coach wanted me, and during the first practice I could show I know more than defense THANKS MAN!
Honestly thanks. It isn’t tryouts but it’s a practice to see if I’m good with the higher team for soccer tomorrow. I feel like I gotta be chill and confident cuz I know I’m not worse than them
Adding value at all times never goes unnoticed!! As a defense dominant player you can get your points from forced turnovers and rebounds. Always be moving and space the floor accordingly, you’d be surprised at how lucky you get. Set screens, roll and be ready for your opportunities because they will come 💯
Thank you so much for all of this the coaches at my school said i will most likely make the team next year and if i continue improving i will be gurenteed a spot next year i am in 6th grade so i have to wait till next year thank you so much for all of your help
On point bro. I remember once i did get the ball they didnt regret it. Im not tall but im quick and can shoot from long range so you know how that goes lol. Good stuff
these are all fax saw this all the time if i was just standing there when i didnt get the pass, he would be pointing, and loud communication is good to coaches they love it
Good tips. Another one I think is worth sharing is if you're teammates are open let them know it was a good take, regardless of whether they made it or missed. Almost everyone, especially in tryouts will miss some open looks, but if you gotta encourage getting quality looks, not the result. The guys you play with will continue to cut and work hard to get open, making it easier for you to either keep setting them up or open the up the floor for you to score since the defense won't just start completing ignoring guys. You're squad will likely be winning scrimmages way more often, which the coaches will notice. It's crazy how much of a difference it makes playing with guys who have energy and confidence vs nervous guys who are playing scared.
lol I remember playing when basketball was just getting started up in England like we were all just football(soccer) players learning the game we had a coach and how he picked players was whoever could jump the highest that was the best player so we had this dude he could jump really high at 5ft11 but he couldn't dunk the ball, he could jump high enough to easily but he would just miss every dunk we said it was because he had small hands couldn't shot either so the game is tied, 49-50 a bench full of players who only made the team to shot and the coach runs the play for him he runs around a pin down screen then a second lose screen catches the ball at the free throw line and jumps as high as he can had a horrible habit of twisting his body mid air when shooting but its because he is jumping so high he pulls off a little Jordan game six with his hand in the air an we all watch him air ball the game winner sometimes kids sometimes the coach gets it wrong keep grinding if you don't get it
I did all this and I’m 5’6 in 8th grade. I’m one of the best players and coach admitted I was the best guard there. Unfortunately I’m not as tall or as athletic so he picked the 6ft football players.
All this advice is great, but when the coach makes all of us condition, full speed, no rest for 1.5 hours and right after do scrimmages, my ass ain't got energy to hustle
A lot of people don’t communicate on defense one thing to do is call which side of screens say you got it or say switch tell them to keep a hand up or play low communication really helps
