In this video I'm going to show you how I made this cloisonne enamel leopard shark pendant using fine silver and vitreous enamel. I'm making a square pendant with the sides folded up to frame it nicely. I show the whole process of how to fold up the sides.
The next step is to apply counter enamel on the back. After firing it I work on the front starting with sifting the clear coat. I'm firing it in my kiln.
After that I'm folding the wires to match the design using my pliers and a tweezer. Cloisonne wires are flat wires standing on their edges. When it's done I place them on the surface of the pendant using glue. I fire it to make the wires stick to the base coat.
Next I'm applying the colors, firing it and repeat the process two more times.
Last step is the sanding process. Enamel loses it's shine during this process so I fire it again to get the shine back.
And it's done! I hope you like it and learned something new!
Thanks for watching!

I don’t comment a lot but am a jewelry artist myself who works exclusively with stones. The patience and your eye for color is exquisite and I hope people appreciate your work and you flourish in your medium.

Could you use sterling silver?
@fridafeketejewelry
@fridafeketejewelry 6 месяцев назад
No. Only if you depletion gild it. With this technique you remove the alloys from the silver.

It seems u use a nice limited amount of tools. What do u say are your essential minimum tools
@fridafeketejewelry
@fridafeketejewelry 7 месяцев назад
Rolling mill to make cloisonne wires, kiln or you can start to enamel with a torch also. Pliers, tweezers, handsaw or shear. Doming block. These are the basics. 😊

Thank you for the video. How do you fix angles of this square? Didn’t you solder it, right?
@fridafeketejewelry
@fridafeketejewelry 9 месяцев назад
No I didn't solder it. It's really shallow doesn't really show. I used the square angles on my small steel block, I'm using in the video. 😊

Wow! I'm in awe. How do you bend those tiny wires so perfectly Frida? You must have good eyesight. How much time does it take to create a pendant? How often does the enamel crack while/after firing it? What do you do if it cracks? Do you discard it? Or try to fix it? Sorry for so many questions. I hope you don't mind. Thanks.

Thank you for the lovely comment! I appreciate it! It takes hours. In my experience you can't leave a big surface without wirework because it tends to crack there. And of course you have to enamel the back too. It never really cracks for me. But if it would I would put more enamel on the crack and fire it again. Enamel pulls together when it fired so firing alone wouldn't necessarily solve the problem. I hope it helps. ❤
