Great new addition. You will learn all the tricks of the trade.. Twenty five years ago we bought our son some red eared sliders... his grandmother gave him two box turtles and we have been given some other types of turtles .. help! My son now lives in another country... the female red ears lay clutches of eight eggs at least twice a year... the box turtles usually manage two eggs per season... just chaos...I have the large ones outside in a variety of concrete pools that I drain every four days to control potential mosquitoes. In winter I cover them with plastic like glass houses. If it's extremely cold, I've ended up uncovering the pools and suspending metal buckets with charcoal burning to keep a hole in the ice. The turtles collect under the buckets. The box turtles hibernate during the winter. All turtles need direct sunlight as part of their 'food'. The baby red ears barely eat anything during the winter but they still grow slightly with sunlight. I feed them cat kibble, charales (small dried fish) liver once a week ( for vitamin A), chicken giblets, lettuce, spinach, parsley... the land turtles also like sweet fruit, slugs, worms and slatters... Rethink about using polystyrene as an island . Your turtle will eat it. I have square bucket lids suspended with wire as my island and a concrete lump as a ramp for my one year old red ear sliders that are in a plastic tote. I place couch grass in the water for a place to hide in.

We got her when she was a baby her name is Turty and she's been with us for almost 8 yrs 💚💚💚💚🐢 also it's good to use reptile UVB lights along with the heat lamp as turtles need UVB rays to produce vitamin D3 which helps them absorb calcium from food and strengthens their bones and shell also helps improve their immunity . For food you can use fish such as guppies & zebra danios and mollies , crickets , pellets , vegetables and also cuttle bone for extra calcium .

Hello! Are you using regiform under the grass? And what type of grass are you using?

You should try maybe gluing small pebbles on the edge of the floating platform so the Styrofoam won't show as much.
