Thank you for this! I work with non profit organizations quite a bit and it’s always a challenge to find solution that we can afford. Question: Does it allow you to temporarily zoom into a portion of your screen? That focus dot is too small for my audience who tends to have trouble reading small text.
@@NewEdTechClassroom sir I don't have tools to teach on laptop did u used pen tablet for this video ??? How to write on screen like you encircled with red pencil ??
Thank you! I'm pretty much a non-technology teacher...old school...this wasn't around when I first started...So, I'm having to learn a great deal of info in a short amount of time! You are easing the pain...I did one video already playing your video on that while using the lap top...lots of start...pause....play....done!
It's more than okay to ease into it, in fact I recommend it! Before you know, these technologies will become easier and easier to use and you'll be great! Best of luck to you, Kimberly!
Sam! I have a follow up. First, LOVED the video - they're always entertaining and well done. Getting ready for BOY and excited to try out some of your material for my class. Here are two questions I have: 1. how did you put yourself in front of the screen? 2. how were you able to manipulate and direct your screen around the page in your video. I'll look for additional material on your channel videos. Thanks, Sam!
Wow !!! I'm so amazed at how your channel has grown so fast! I'm also super happy for you. Way to go Sam. Your content is definitely helpful in this crisis period and is going to help teachers in the new era of online learning.
I know, it's been a wild week! I'm glad so many teachers are finding my content helpful, and am looking forward to putting out more videos to help people make this challenging transition. I'm really impressed by everyone's willingness to adapt on the fly!
Great video. I didn't know about this until now. I teach at Grossmont College, El Cajon, California and I am a music professor. This added tool will greatly help my students. Thanks again!!
I just started making a video, but it said free version allows only upto 10 minutes of recording. Not complaining, but something that you could probably add in the description section of this excellent instructional video. 😊
Although I know it's more advanced - I would love to know how you use Screenflow to edit out the green screen to make yourself without a background. So much fun!
What program are you using for the green screen tech? And can you change the background of the embedded webcam with the green screen to make it more interesting? Thanks!
Hi Andy, I use Screenflow for my RU-vid videos, which allows you to chromakey out the green. Unfortunately Screencastify doesn't off chromakey yet, though I suspect at some point in the future they will, or some sort of virtual background.
@@NewEdTechClassroom you mentioned in this video that you will be doing another video using the Screenflow program. When will it be created? With summer coming and having this time to explore and create, I would love to see it as I find your videos very helpful to learn from.
You're welcome! Technically I am still in a box, but I film with a green screen behind me and then use video editing software (Screenflow) to edit out the green. Unfortunately you can't edit out green with Screencastify: you'll need more advanced editing software for that (plus much more time involved for the editing process).
Thank you! I use a green screen and video editing software that allows me to key out the green. Check out the links at the bottom of the video description if you're interested in looking into the programs I use.
Wonderful! Thanks so much! I wonder if you have suggestions on “ practicing” with Screencastify so I’m ready to go in the fall? I’m a music teacher (band) and can see how this and Flipgrid could be really useful and helpful to me.
Thank you! That's a great question! I think the most important thing I found when I started doing it was writing out a bullet-pointed list of the key points I wanted to make so that I didn't end up rambling on. With practice you'll become more comfortable, and you also don't have to make perfect videos, your students will understand! Best of luck this year!
Unfortunately you can't use a green screen with Screencastify. I'm using another program called Screenflow to get the green screen effect in this video.
Great tutorial! I made a shortcut to your tutorials because I need to learn everything before schools starts :) OK so two questions: 1) where do I locate my Screencastify videos and 2) what is the best way to show two windows (tabs) at the same time on my Chromebook? Thank you!
Hi Meghan, so sorry for the long delay in responding here. You can find your screencastify videos in a folder in your Google Drive called Screencastify. As far as showing two tabs at once, your best bet is to split your screen. You can use a screen splitter like Tab Resize to split your screen into different parts (e.g. halves or quadrants).
Hi there, I actually recently put out a video about how I do it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qgtBjdu_usc.html The software I use is called Screenflow if you're interested in checking it out here: telestream.8bx6ag.net/c/2242743/352742/4900
Hi, there. I am a biology teacher using Screencastify for the first time. I want to be able to write with more precision than the online tool provides. For example, if I need to write-out a genetics problem (Punnett square or an equation), I don't want it to look like a mess! My question is, can I use an external writing pad with this app? If so, please make a video on how to use it! If not, what do you recommend. Thank you!
I don't have a lot of experience with this specifically b/c I'm a Humanities teacher, but my understanding is that EquatiO is a very popular digital tool for math that might help you here: www.texthelp.com/en-us/products/equatio/ You could add EquatiO as a Google Chrome extension and then make your video tutorial. You also might want to check out an app like Explain Everything, which might be more in line with what you're trying to do: explaineverything.com/
Did you make a video for the students on how THEY can record (a speech or something that uses the camera to record them)? If so, are you willing to share it with me so I can watch it and either use it or make one of my own based on it?
Hi Kat, I do actually have a whole separate channel for student tutorials, so you should definitely check that out here: ru-vid.com/show-UCLgkzdg1YtJBMD-A080N1xg Here is the direct link to the tutorial on my preferred screen recording program, Loom: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ch91tjVVuNE.html
Awesome tutorials and information. I have a few questions. 1. Do you think using a touchscreen device will enhance teacher lessons or it doesn’t matter? 2. Is a Mac better than Windows devices? Please advise.
You're welcome, Warren! I don't think it matters much whether or not a teacher has access to a touchscreen device. Mac v. Windows is more of a personal preference. Both will allow you to do awesome things with technology! I'm a Mac user myself.
Hi Abigayle, Look out for some content about that soon! (I can say that it's a lot more involved and time intensive than making a tutorial with Screencastify).
You're welcome! Just create a hyperlink by copying and pasting the shareable link to your video! Make sure that the settings are changed so that "anyone with the link can view."
.Sir I really appreciate your video on google extension, thanks for sharing. Sir how I can use my smartphone as a webcam for recording my classroom lecture instead of laptop cam(which do not give good quality for youtube videos)where I can be visible to my student while sharing my laptop screen. thanks in anticipation.
Hi, I think the most important thing you would need would be a stand for the smartphone, though that will only record you talking, as opposed to also recording what you are doing on your screen. I'm not currently aware of any screen capture programs that can be used with a smartphone (you can't use extensions w/ a smartphone), but there might be a way that I just don't know about. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful on this one!
Hi, I wanted to ask which is better, screen-cast-o-matic or Screencastify? I want to use it to continue doing Biblical Hebrew Tutorials for my RU-vid channel. Thank You
Great video. Great information. Delivery was super fast. I have to watch this over and over again to get what you were presenting. That's my only complaint. Way too fast.
Thank you for this! A question for you: I tried my first tutorial, but wanted to show a part of a video that was on my desktop. The sound for the video didn't come through. Any fixes for this that you know of?
Was the sound playing when you recorded the video? Make sure the sound is turned up high and it will get picked up via the internal mic, the same place it's recording your voice.
Thank you for this informative video. I have one question. Could I upload the video to an assignment or do I have to place it in a section for instructional videos only.
You can edit with the free version, and the video length is actually only 5min for the free version. That being said, an easy work around to to simply make a Part I or Part II tutorial. Though if you are regularly making long video tutorials, it would probably merit purchasing the paid version (it's pretty cheap). I've only ever used the free version myself though!
Your tutorial was awesome sir 😊 Very timely for teachers in the new normal 😷 I do have a question ,does the 50 video limit only allow you to record 50 videos a month or 50 videos only when add this extension to your chrome?? Thanks in advance sir 😊
Hi Lyra, They've actually changed the limitations since I made this video. Now it's just a five minute limit per video, but there isn't a limit to the number of videos anymore!
@@NewEdTechClassroom Thank You Sir for your response ❤ I will recommend your channel to my fellow teachers here in the Philippines. Its so helpful ❤❤❤ More powers to your Channel sir 😊
I really loved this tutorial, I just wonder if I can use screencastify using only my smart phone, I have an old computer with no camera, and because of Covi-19 it´s almos impossible for me to buy a new one.
Unfortunately you can't because Extensions are only useable on a computer. Here's an article about how to screen record with an iPhone though: support.apple.com/en-us/HT207935
I use a program called Screenflow: www.telestream.net/screenflow/overview.htm?&gclid=CjwKCAjwvZv0BRA8EiwAD9T2VeGlH_8LFv9Sj1OQGJq1vsyCb13Z7wik1gUEspNKM3uW5LVJ3mkFvRoCrd0QAvD_BwE
Hi Sam thanks a lot for your extremely useful tutorials. Can you tell me how you actually created this particular video? It seems as though you are standing in front of a huge flat screen TV that is displaying your desktop screen behind you (cool effect),as opposed to simply appearing inside a small box in the corner. TIA
Sure! I use a green screen behind me and then use Screenflow, a video editor for Mac, to key out the green and then superimpose myself onto the computer screen, which I'm simultaneously recording.
Hi Amanda, I actually recently put out a video about how I do it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qgtBjdu_usc.html The software I use is called Screenflow if you're interested in checking it out here (full disclosure, this is an affiliate link, so The New EdTech Classroom would receive a portion of the sale if you were to decide to move forward with a subscription!): telestream.8bx6ag.net/c/2242743/352742/4900
