This has to be, hands down, one of the best videos I have seen about making stickers with the Cricut machine and making them waterproof. I just recently bought my very first Cricut machine and I look forward to making my own stickers. You have a new subscriber! :). Thank you!
Thank you Jennifer for this huge time-saver! I've been making my stickers with sticker paper then laminating them and then cutting them on my Maker. Can't wait to try the printable vinyl! Merry Christmas and thank you for your 25 days of Merry Maker Mingle. I've looked forward to them every day 🎄🎁💗
This is the most helpful video yet! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain things with such precise detail. It makes all the difference. Cheers!
I *always* learn something from your videos!! I’ve been using my cricut for a year and a half, but never knew about the “ungroup to lines” function until now. This is huge! Thank you!!!!
I've done spray finish and or spray polyurethane plus clear vinyl over it after it dries then did the cut and they work great on tumblers even with washing! Thank you for your great tutorials Jennifer Maker!!!
I have been printing my stickers on printable vinyl for quite some time. This tutorial completely convinced me for sure that I made the correct choice. Thank You again for a Great Tutorial.
Thanks for testing them! Do you have any videos for laminating them? I’m going to try cold lamination because I hear that works better. Or other ideas to put on tumblers without sealing in epoxy!
Great tutorial Thank you! ♥ You didn't use it but would any of the Mod Podge work? For instance, I'm guessing the dishwasher version might work ... maybe Outdoor version but not sure about the other ones (paper, matte, gloss, sparkle & original versions)! Oh and would those clear/holo adhesive sheets you can lay over your stickers work too? (at least for the surface not sure about the back) For the overlay if you run it through a die cutting machine just to flatten together - do you think that might seal it better?
loved this tutorial thank you so much I used something can't even remember what but after just running water over it to wash it it got sticky but had a baby shower for my daughter and made stickers for the plastic cups for ladies to use and take home it was a drive through shower so I had lids and straws so cute and used the vinyl sticker paper and i still use from time to time the extras and they are really holding up as well. Love your tutorials you are such a great teacher. Have a wonderful new year.
Extremely helpful video and info! Thanks so much for doing all of this testing. Thanks, too, for all of your Merry Maker Mingle tutorials. They were so fun! Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄
Excellent, excellent, excellent tutorial!! I love these kind of testing videos. Thank you for sharing all the results and for explaining your process so clearly. Wishing you and your family a most wonderful Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎅🤶🧑🎄🦌☃️💝🎄🎅🤶🧑🎄🦌☃️💝
Hi Jennifer, Interesting tests. However, the real test is to waterproof inkjet printed vinyl labels with water proof edges which do not allow the ink to run from the edges after being totally submerged in water for 24 hours. Water will enter around the edges as there is often a tiny gap between the vinly and the lamination fil. Thus far I have not seen this done and hence why makers leave a white border around the labels. Can you do your magic and find a solution? Please?
Amazing and clear video, this was exactly what I was searching for after watching countless videos trying to figure out this issue. One question I have is when you switch over to using the vinyl sticker paper, I don't think you mentioned what settings you used on the Cricut for a kiss cut? Is it the same as the regular sticker paper, ie. Washi settings? Any help is appreciated!
I would like to know if you tried the cricut printable sticker paper, and what the results with it was? I want to put stickers on my Christmas card envelopes.
Love your videos! I want to make tile coasters with a sticker that is water resistant. Any ideas do I need to do anything to tile first? Any ideas from you will be greatly appreciated. Marilyn
had no idea about the clear transparent vinyl. Hopfully after I watch this I will be going into my office to make stickers!! I will defiantly have to rewatch and make them as I follow along. That's with any project.
Hello!, thanks for your amazing videos. I´m new here and also new using Cricut, but I was wondering if you mind sharing how I cut the stickers?, not only the vinyl but also the base material where the stickers are placed, so everything has the same shape if that makes sense. Thanks
You are the best teacher that I have found, as a newbie! You are precise, show your work and explain everything, slowly and succinct. Thank you so much for this video. You have a new subscriber!
ADDENDUM TO PREVIOUS COMMENT. the link listed for the cricuit printable transparent vinyl does not open to the Joyeza Vinyl Sticker Paper u show on the video, Plz what 1 is the best to put a print & cut label on a plastic water bottle? tku
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm very new to Cricut, and as a school teacher, I think you're an excellent teacher. I had been wondering about making stickers water resistant. Will these stand up to hand washing?
HI! I really like this video! I got some waterproof sticker paper from Amazon (Neato Labels Super Glossy Vinyl) but the ink scratches easily. I have a Canon Inkjet and make it print the best quality. Do you think that is a brand issue or a setting issue on my printer?
hello! Jennifer you remember Sam deaf Doris ok... yes, I understand wow beautiful purse and handbags nice!!! thank you so much Jennifer ❤💯 I want make it soon ok
All other sticker creation videos put an offset around each one. When I cut them, the offset is larger on either the left or right. I will try calibrating my Cricut to see if that helps. Thanks for doing the testing for us. ❤️👍🏼
I am wondering about the clear vinyl you used as I believe there are two types (according to my google search history!) If you used a transparent vinyl with a water based adhesive, it makes sense you got the results you did. If the adhesive on the transparent vinyl was solvent based, the results might be different. I am not criticising by any means, nor am I questioning your knowledge, nor am I sure both types are readily available to the common crafter. If you used a vinyl with a solvent based adhesive and you got those results, c'est la vie. If not, I would love to see another video with a showdown between the two types of vinyl. Thanks for the fantastic videos!
Thank you for this! I love your testing videos. As a new sticker maker this is very helpful. Looks like I bought supplies that aren't even necessary. Have you done any experiments with these vinyl sticker papers in the dishwasher? I'd love to know which ones hold up best for that. Thanks again!
I'm trying to follow your instructions, but I am so not getting what you have on screen. I can't find a sticker collection to use to follow how to make stickers. I have a cricut maker champagne.
Now that I know how to protect them...I am going back and finding tutorials about how to MAKE them! I avoided these in the past because I wanted to protect them but did not know how. Yahoo! New projects ahead.
Have you figured out how to make them, Jennine? It really is simple. I'm putting together some free tutorials for moms (and grams like me :) on how to make them for our kiddos, quick and cheap. Let me k ow if you would like to be added to the launch list!
Thank you Jennifer! I've never made stickers, thinking they wouldn't look very good. These were amazing and I know not to waste money on the paper sticker paper.
Have you heard of Transfer Magic Ink Jet Transfer Paper. I heard you don’t have to use sublimation Ink just regular Ink please give you opinion or test results.
Thank you for this and your other wonderful tutorials! 😊 I am wondering if maybe spraying the poly urethane on the vinyl stickers would make them more color-fast. Just a thought for an update.
Hi, I just made some magnetic stickers using the printer vinyl sticker and then sticking them on the magnet sheet. By chance do you have a video of using magnet sheets with cricket? What magnet sheets do you recommend? Also, what do you think about the printable magnet sheets? One more thing what type of scissors do you recommend for doing crafts with cricket? Thank you for your amazing tutorials!
I loved your tutorial but I bought an Eco Tank ET 2800 and somehow when I’m making stickers, the print dialog doesn’t show. I’ve tried moving my screen like you mentioned in another video, and it is not there. I tried it with another printer, to hopefully see if the printer is the problem and it doesn’t show on there either. I’ve calibrated the cricut too. Any ither places I can find it?
Hi Jennifer - thanks for the video. Which vinyl sticker paper do you recommend? Both white and transparent? The ones I've tried have all smeared from water. Thanks in advance!
I"m trying to make credit card skins, But I don't know what is the best paper or ink to use. I have the template already, just trying to find the best results as far as quality goes. Any help would be appreciated.
Sticker paper is a paper-based materials that typically comes in matte and glossy. Printable vinyl is a polymer-based material which has a plastic feel. Sticker paper is paper-based and not waterproof or water resistant. Printable vinyl on the other hand is water resistant and weather proof.
Hi Jennifer I have been trying to reverse weed and it's just not happening, IV tried loads I I would like to know what the best vinyl is and transfer paper is plz plz plz it would make my life so much easier 👍❤️
Wait so which won? The vinyl printer sticker or vinyl printer sticker paper???? I use the exact brand of vinyl printer sticker (not the paper one) and my ink ALWAYS smears no matter how long i let it sit
For the test using the Avery Sticker Paper, the winner for me was the sticker coated in Polyurethane. The DuraClear Varnish came in second. The vinyl stickers were perfect! There was no water damage and none of the stickers came apart or smeared when I rubbed my finger across them. When it comes to vinyl stickers, you do not need to waterproof them at all. The results were the same with and without waterproofing treatment. Vinyl stickers are now my favorite because they are truly waterproof. Added bonus, it is very difficult to rip a vinyl sticker in two.
Hi Jennifer i recently purchased stickers from Etsy for water bottles but am unable to ungroup or add my own designs am I doing something wrong please? I down loaded them in a PNG
Jennifer, I have been trying to make waterproof stickers for a while now and have tried many different products including the Joyeza paper that you show in the video above. The video you posted was great, but I am still not having any luck. I designed, printed, and cut my stickers and then ran them under water. For some reason, they continue to smear and I am not sure what to do. Do you have any idea why this could be happening? I am currently using a HP Deskjet 3755 printer. Thanks!!
@@JenniferMaker Hi Jennifer! Thanks for the tip! Do you ever have issues with bubbling? My stickers always have seem to have air pockets no matter how hard I try.
I've read that black ink doesn't dry as good as color ink... The tests you did didn't have much (if at all) black ink... Have you seen an issue with black ink?
There really isn't a specific difference about the drying performance of black ink compared to color ink for making stickers for print then cut. If you are experiencing issues with black ink drying, it might be helpful to test different types of sticker paper or adjust the printer settings. Additionally, ensuring that the ink and paper are compatible and allowing sufficient drying time could help improve the results.
I was wondering what kind of ink you used. I used the same vinyl sticky paper but the ink smudged even with just my wet finger. I want to make waterproof stickers for a kayak fishing club. I didn't want to use laminate paper or spray sealer.
For making stickers, you typically use an inkjet printer. Sublimation printers are designed for transferring designs onto polyester or polymer-coated surfaces using heat, which is not suitable for standard sticker materials but there is sticker paper for sublimation printers.
I used the exact same printable vinyl and my ink smudged with 1 drop of water and it was even several days after I printed it. Any idea what might help? Possibly my printer ink?
Extremely helpful video and info! Thanks so much for doing all of this testing. Thanks, too, for all of your Merry Maker Mingle tutorials. They were so fun! Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄
Hi Jennifer. I’ve been tasked to make stickers for my son’s small fishing boat, the “Sea Pickle”. I need to make it waterproof and not sure this video I just watched will be the right solution. Would you help direct me to instructions on how to make Boat Stickers? Thank you very much.
Could you use the Cricut Clear Vinyl to print then cut the stickers? I'm looking to make stickers on a clear material. I see that Cricut also has clear printable sticker paper but based on your experiment, maybe the Cricut clear vinyl may be the best option but I'm not sure if it can be used for print then cut.
I tried using printable vinyl sticker paper to make stickers with my inkjet printer and the ink is still smearing when introduced to water even after completely dry. Should I be using a specific ink or a laser printer instead to help make them water resistant?
I am having trouble getting my cricut to cut out my sticker shapes correctly. They are just slightly off so that they don't look good. I did the calibration on cricut and I did alignment test on printer and cleaned print heads.
tku for the video. i clicked on the link for the vinyl u used to read the ?? & reviews…many people said it was not printable & reviews were not very good.i am wondering if maybe they have changed the product or ???. i really need a clear printable & cut vinyl for water bottles. is this really the 1 o is there now a better 1 to use? tku
I have a question. Even though they are waterproof unfortunately they are not scratch proof. I bought vinyl sticker paper but is somehow easy to scratch off. Any tips for this? I use an inkjet printer with pigment ink.
I agree, they have to be covered with a laminate to be scratch proof. I haven't tried the scratch test yet with vinyl stickers that just got some kind of spray sealant.
I know you made kiss cut stickers here. If I make die cut stickers with sticker paper do I need to separate them before spraying them with the polyurethane spray? I bought a bunch of sticker paper and my ink bleeds and smears even days after I let them sit and dry.
Look for a UV resistant clear spray for protecting stickers placed outside. There are options listed in the materials list affiliate links. jennifermaker.com/how-to-make-stickers-with-cricut/
I put it in my tray with nothing else in there. I do not use Cricut sticker paper because it is too thick for my printer. I recommend something like Avery or other office brands.
The bleed part will be trimmed off when you cut the stickers. If you continue to have problems, please reach out to my Maker Experience Team at hello@jennifermaker.com
I am making stickers for a friend. I enjoyed watching this video, but when you said about making them water proof snd submerging in water, does that also mean I wouldn't be able to make them for tumblers?
when i type in the text, first the text box is gigantic when it pops up, then there is not a small box above the bigger text like shown in your video. i click on the text box just as demonstrated but my options aren't the same. I'm using the exact same machine. i wonder what is the difference
Hey Jennifer, does that mean that the original Joy and Joy Extra cannot do stickers? That's something that I really want to try out. Please say YESSS!!!!
Jennifer, you are a wonderful teacher. I always feel like you are particularly addressing my questions in your tutorials. So now here is my question. I need to design Arabic calligraphy with English transliteration as a sticker/decal to go on wooden discs/coasters. Is there an iron-on printable vinyl? Or can I use the printable vinyl as in your tutorial? This project is for an event of an organization I volunteer for and I am making about 100 pieces. Your input will be greatly appreciated.
The more I watch, the more I want to make. My list continues to grow. Thank you for all you do. Your great! I feel as though you are right here giving me a one on one lesson.
Great video!!! I do have a question. On your printable sticker vinyl with the yellow square. Did you do double protection? For example; on the printable vinyl did you spray Polyurethane and then add on a clear laminate? I'm just a little confused
Hi from South Africa. I’ve tried printing with an HP inkjet printer, and Cricut printable vinyl, however mine ran like it was running a marathon. What am I doing wrong?! I’ve been told here that the only way to get this right, would be to use eco-solvent ink….but machines of that magnitude are way to expensive to invest in. Is there a particular product / gloss vs Matt that is preferred?
@@JenniferMaker thanks so much for your reply…I’ve double checked and it was the right side as the Cricut has its printing on the ‘wrong side’. I’m wondering if it’s my printer that is below sun-level grading.
It is really cool to see that you can make stickers be waterproof. Thanks Jennifer! Also, Thanks Tracy for the tip below about installing printer drivers.
I’ve had my explorer for 2 months and have only taken it out the box.. you’re tutorials are giving me hop that I can actually do this!! One of my issues is that I can only use my phone but I’m going to figure all this out.. thank you for being so thorough on everything and sharing templates!!
