Can the wax be reused when the scent can no longer be smelled?
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 года назад
We typically wouldn't recommend using the left over wax to make melts or candles as new fragrance will likely not bind well and there could be some issues with wicking. Firestarters, however, are great for using up wax and other materials!

Made some wax melts, but they weren’t releasing from the clam shell molds completely, what do you recommend?
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 года назад
There are a few things to try! As a quick fix, you could place the clamshells in the fridge or freezer for a bit and this should allow the wax to shrink a little and pop right out. Longer term, you could try letting the melts cure for a longer amount of time in a cool, dark area to see if that helps. Or you could try using a different wax, or blend of waxes. Harder waxes may pop out of the molds more easily.

Could you recommend a good dedicated candle making forum?
@candlescience
@candlescience Год назад
We have a FB group here: facebook.com/groups/236790313390675/ But there are a ton of great groups out there! Some cater more to beginners or specific kinds of candle making but others are good for all skill levels and crafts. I'd recommend searching FB for the kind of candle making you're interested in and joining a few to see if you like the vibe and how it's organized!

Hello! I made a soy wax candle and it doesn't smell when it burns, at a 370 gram glass I used 342.59 soy wax and 27.41 perfume I melted at 85 gr and I added the perfume then I poured in a glass at 60gr can you tell me where I'm wrong? Thank you very much!
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 года назад
Hi! The amount of materials you are using and the temperatures you are adhering to look correct! You may be able to add just a bit more fragrance if you'd like for a 10% fragrance load if your wax can hold that amount but it shouldn't make too much of a difference. Soy wax can take a longer time to cure though as the wax and fragrance bind so if you have not already, I'd suggest waiting a week or two before burning your candled to evaluate hot throw. If the wick is not getting a full melt pool either, this can affect the throw and you may want to adjust they type or size. Another thing to keep in mind is the size of your container and the room the candle is in. A candle with a smaller opening will not be able to fill a larger room with scent. You could try testing the candle in a smaller room like office or bedroom first before seeing how it performs in a more open space.

Can e use your fragrances in soaps or lotions
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 года назад
Many of our fragrances can be used in soaps and lotions, yes! You can use the Fragrance Finder tool to see all of the soap safe scents. Just be sure to check the IFRA document for each fragrance to see the maximum amount of scent safe to use for different bath and body products! www.candlescience.com/fragrance-oil-finder/#/

Is soy 464 recommended for wax melts?
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 года назад
It can provide a good scent throw but because it is a container wax, it will adhere very well to whatever it is poured into. This can cause it to stick to molds or not release cleanly from melts. You can definitely test it out but typically, a harder wax will have a better snap!

Your pouring temp may be a bit hot for clamshells. I recommend pouring around 140° F
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 года назад
The BW-921 wax used here has a recommended pouring temperature of around 170° F and a melt point of 135° F so pouring this wax that low could cause some aesthetic issues but this matters more for candles than for melts really. If 140° F works for you, that's perfect! Different waxes will have different ideal pouring temperatures and you can absolutely experiment with them to see which works best for your materials and environment!

@@candlescience you’re missing the point, I think 170 is too hot for the plastic itself not the wax
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 года назад
We have tested the clamshells with many different waxes at different pouring temperatures with good results, even up to 190° F though there is no need to pour that hot. If you run into any issues with them though, please let us know and we'd be happy to help!

How does the clamshell not melt with hot wax
@candlescience
@candlescience Год назад
These clamshells were made to be able to hold high amounts of fragrance as well as wax poured at high temps, up to 180°F. Many waxes will have a pour temp of 180°F or lower so there is no risk to the clamshells. Most waxes should pop right out easily once they cool!
@Blackbeautynh
@Blackbeautynh Год назад
The pour temp is 170 but the clamshells high temp is 140. Help
@candlescience
@candlescience Год назад
Hmm that might be tricky! You could try pouring around the 140 mark but the wax may start to cool and solidify. Alternatively, you could use clamshells that can withstand higher temps, our can accommodate pour temps up to 180°F.

No hate but i feel bad for how many single use plastic will be use, and thrown to the trash and that will effect the environment. I love making candle and the idea of selling it but please think about what will happen to the trash after we finished the product. I hope everybody would prefer scented candle that is made in a reusable jar/container instead. I love the earth and i hope everyone love and take care of it and everything in it (tree, animals, environment) too, as it is our responsibility. May God forgive us.
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 года назад
We absolutely share your concern for the environment and are dedicated to providing more conscious materials and supplies! These clamshells are recyclable under Code 3 which is accepted by most curbside pick ups and one day we'd like them to be made of more recycled materials themselves! We are also conscious of how our business practices can affect the environment and more information can be found here: www.candlescience.com/about/carbon-neutral-shipping/ www.candlescience.com/about/green-packaging/ We're always glad to see makers seeking sustainable options and hopefully, we'll be able to provide even more in the near future!

You feel bad yet you're here watching about wax melting? Something I do all the time, burn wax from plastic. (Horrible me) Are you taking your clothes to a rock to clean them at the river? Um probably not Are you using a gas or electric dryer after washing clothes? Um probably Do you use a lawnmower or pay a landscaper who uses lawnmowers and power tools, battery, gas, oil etc Do you fly? Do you buy food from a grocery store that gets you via, plane train, automobile etc etc Do you take showers that's use gas or electric for your warmth comfort? Do you cook on a gas or electric stove? Do you swim in pools in the summer? You aren't living off the grid! I come here to see this sweet girl and hear about beautiful candles and here you are Karen. You're everywhere! Can't even effi enjoy wax burning now! You're a hypocrite, and I feel better for saying it, When you finally go totally off grid, lecture everyone. Have a nice day! 🙄
