Hi crafty friends! Do you love wax seals but hate the soot when using a candle to melt your wax beads? Me, too! But I recently discovered a neat wax bead candle warmer that takes the soot out of the whole process. Now I’m hooked! Let me know if wax seals are part of your crafting journey. I have so many made now, I’ll have them ready to put on cards or envelopes. Thanks for stopping by! ♥️
Wax Seals are some of my favorite elements of card making! They're the cherry on top! I first saw them in Victoria magazine in the 90s, but I finally bought my first set in 2021. They're so satisfying. Using the seals on the cards was a beautiful idea, Kathya. I've only used them on envelopes, so far. You have a talent for making uncomplicated, but very beautiful cards. I don't have patience for a whole lot of stamping, inking, and intricate die cuts. I always return to your channel to learn less-expensive paths to lovely cards. The ice pack was a brilliant addition to the technique! I haven't had problems with wax sticking to my stamps, but I DID NOT want to have a bowl of ice water anywhere near my paper crafting supplies, if I ever did. This is a much more contained option. I can use it in a food storage container, with a towel underneath. And thank you for testing out the wax melter. It has been appearing in my Amazon suggestions, but I've been uncertain. You've given me the information (and link) I needed to make an informed purchase. I went to your website as requested, but didn't see this project there. I'm very interested in the small dies you used for the focal points. May I ask what they are, and if you have an affiliate link for them?
Hi Vania! I love your name, by the way! Thanks for your lovely message! ♥️ The two dies I used to create the focal point (circle and square) are from an older die set and no longer available. I didn’t put more pictures of these cards or links to them on my website because I don’t use tools that some other crafters use like LinkDeli, due to the cost. I’m so sorry if I didn’t mention those dies in my video or where to find them. 😔 Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. I appreciate you! Have an awesome day! ♥️
Great video! Lots of helpful tips. I'm going to get that silicone sculpting tool for sure. If you ever miss using a flame you should try an alcohol candle/burner. Alcohol burns clean so there is no soot to deal with.
It means the world to me that you took the time to comment, Liesl. Your work is impeccable and I hope to share your channel with my subscribers. Your work is amazing! Hugs!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Back in the 70s, I bought a small stamp and some wax. I was told to put the stamp part in my mouth while the wax melted. Doing this would prevent the stamp from sticking. I always did that and never had any problems with the stamp sticking to the wax. I like the idea of the ice pack, especially with the stamps that are much bigger than the stamp I used as a teen. I loved using my wax stamp, but finding the wax was increasingly difficult. I'm glad to see wax stamps are popular again. I may take it up as a hobby.
What a fun memory. I enjoy making wax seals, but one day, I went nuts and made a bunch. Now I have to use them on some cards. I hope you do take it up as a hobby! 🥰
Kathya - I find this video SO helpful, since I'm new at making wax seals! ( I tried to say no to myself, but after seeing so many lovely cards using seals, I just had to try it! ) The silicone tool, the kit, & the electric furnace are definitely on my list! I am a bit leery about the candles.... & thanks so much for all your tips!
Yay! I’m glad you found it helpful! It’s an addictive hobby! The ice pack and electric furnace was a game changer for me. I hated the soot from candles. Hope you have fun! 🥰
Beautiful 🌺 I think the designs of the wax seals would make for some gorgeous jewelry too, not with wax but perhaps clay or even with the hot glue technique. I immediately saw earrings, something that happens in my brain often🥰 Thank you, Kathya!
@@KathyaKalinine I likely cannot make the purchase for some time, I've got bills that need paying right now, winter heating, on Social Security and limited resources, but it's something to consider for the future. Blessings!
Great video, my friend and I love the electric spoon warmer. I actually use a face wax pot dedicated to my wax sealing, but I keep that for one color. That little gadget will be great for individual colors or smaller mixes. Appreciate you. ❤❤❤
Hello Kathy’s. Just watched 2 of your videos and subscribed 😊. I was watching this one from about a year ago using your new electric furnace. You seem very good at getting that stamp into the middle of the wax pool. How many beads of wax do you use for each one? I use 4 on average. Love the cards ❤
Kathya, I have looked into making wax seals and just haven’t moved ahead yet. I really like the simplicity of a seal with an embossed background. Are the gold circle and square areas, behind your seals mirrored card-stock or something else, it’s perfect for displaying the seals. Thank you for the information 😀
Yes, agreed! I’m not a fan of making this craft hard or difficult. I used gold card stock to attach the seals to the front card panel. I found that adhesive dots worked better than glue or double sided adhesive. Did you try? Curious to know your thoughts. ♥️
You’ll have lots of fun with wax seal art! The gold cover plates you see in my cards are just die cut circles from gold card stock. The white pierced background is from Stampin Up, I believe. It’s been a while so I’m not exactly sure. 🫤
I really like your card layouts that you made with your stamp seals! I have been making stamp seals using my glue gun which is great too, very easy and clean :)
I loved the video! Thanks for sharing. I have everything I need to make my seals but I'm having trouble getting nice circles. I'll have to try putting my spoon down closer maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. Does Amazon sell your silicone pick? I have subscribed and look forward to more of your videos.
hi Liz! Yes, the sculpting silicone tools are in my description box below. Here is the affiliate link for you: amzn.to/3mHItAH. Thanks for watching and subscribing! 🥰
I've seen that electric wax melter, however I've read some reviews stating some of them don't heat to a proper temperature to melt the wax correctly... 🤷🏻♂️
admiring your video. very interested in what mat you are using? does the weave texture appear on the back of your seals? where would one get this mat? Also, do you have a source for the "cover plate" (background metallic piece for the seals on the card). TIA!
that is a silicone mat meant for baking. The weave texture on the back is very subtle and doesn’t affect the quality of the wax seal. Here is the affiliate link to the one I bought (color has changed). amzn.to/3NwFXro The cover plate to which you’re referring is basically gold foil card stock that I had in my stash-nothing special. I hope this helps! 🥰
Kathya, you mentioned that you would have all the info about the 3-D seal stamps linked below. I was particularly interested in the bumble bee stamp.. I searched everywhere for your information, but was not able to find it. Did I miss it? Would you be able to link it now? Thanks much...
Hi Kathya! Love this video ! I wasn’t able to pull up the list of things you used but I am curious about the gold disc you put the wax seal on - is it a die cut? I think I noted you used foam dots to raise it up. I’d appreciate knowing which die you used. Thank you!
Hi Susan! Indeed it is a die cut. I used gold card stock I had on my stash. I used strong double sided tape, I think, to adhere it to the card stock. You can also use hot glue to adhere your wax seals. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching, too! 🥰
The die cut almost looks like it has a rim on it. I have “circle” dies and punches but the picture looks like a rim- Do you know what company it came from? I’m terrible for not saving packaging- I love making “elegant” cards and this one you made is absolutely beautiful. Thank you!
@@susancannon3186 I was terrible about not saving packaging when I first started this craft, so I don’t remember the round dies. If it helps, you could take a smaller die, center it and then run a stylus around it to get that embossed look. I think my circle dies are from Lifestyle Crafts, but I bought them a thousand years ago, so I could be wrong on that. You could also use a smaller round die (after cutting the larger one), center it and then dry emboss it, too. Thank you for the sweet compliment! 🥰
@@KathyaKalinine That’s a great idea! You are awesome! I just started making wax seals this week so your RU-vid’s have helped me so much. I was frustrated at first as it seemed I had a big blob of wax on one side and too thin on the other. I devoted 2 hours of practicing and am getting better- My husband has a drill press and cut me a 1 1/4” clear acrylic stencil to hold the wax and it’s really helped. If you have a P.O. Box or business address I’ll be glad to mail you one! (A small thank you for the tutorials). Not sure where you are- we are in Tampa, Florida- hope your weather a bit cooler! Thanks!
You’re right. I linked to my exact order and it’s now changed. I wasn’t able to find it anymore on Amazon, so I think it’s no longer available. I’m sorry.😢 If I do find it, I’ll let you know. 🥰
I’m a lefty. Would I be able to pour the wax from the other side of the spoon? Why can’t they consider that not everyone is right handed when designing crafting tools? A spout on both sides would have been nice.
I was able to play with the electric warmer today, and I love it! ❤️ You were right about the spoon, pouring it from the other side of the spout wasn’t an issue. Can’t wait to get them on cards! Thanks so much for all your great advice. I love your videos.
Oh! I got that on Amazon. I didn’t link it because I don’t really like it. I burned my fingers on it several times until I found the electric wax melting kit. Just search wax seal kits, and you will have plenty of choices! 🥰
