DOMBOLO | How To Make White and Brown Steamed Bread | Ujeqe | South African Food
Lets male white and brown steamed bread. I used whole wheat brown flour.
here are the ingredients I used:
4 cups of white cake flour
2 cups of whole wheat brown flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 Tbsp of butter or oil
3 Tbsp of sugar (you can use more sugar if you wish.)
2 Cups of Luke warm water
1 packet of yeast
Method:
Step 1:
Mix the Dough:
1. In a large bowl, combine the 2 cups of whole wheat flour and white cake flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
2. Gradually add warm water, stirring until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough for about 8-10 minutes.
4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it gently but firmly to develop gluten.
5. Shape it into a round loaf or desired shape.
6. Grease a heatproof bowl, Place the dough inside.
7. Cover your dough with a damp cloth or greased clean wrap and place on heat or anywhere warm.
8. Allow the dough to double in size for 45 minutes or more.
9. After the dough has doubled, transfer to heat proof bowl or ramekins and leave for 15 minutes covered.
Steaming the Bread:
Add water to a pot or steamer, allow the water to start boiling then place the bowl or ramekins and cover with a lid.
Steam for about 30-50 minutes or until the bread is cooked through.
Tip: check with a toothpick if its cooked. if the toothpick comes out clean, then your bread is ready to serve.
Serve:
Let the white steamed bread cool slightly.
Slice and enjoy with your favorite stew. :)
