Thank You So Much ! -Excellent speed control so that I could pause between the individual elements. I took notes but then re-thought it out - and recorded it into a mp4 format for recurring references when I'm without internet.
At last - someone who gives tutorials suitable for people with limited knowledge. Because of the way and speed you presented it, I was able to follow your instruction to the letter, which in turn has taken my dreadfully, painfully slow 6 month old HP Laptop and turned it into a monster speeder. Start up used to take around 20 minutes - it now takes 1 min 34 seconds including logging on to the internet. Thankyou - please DO NOT change your style. Regards - an old bloke in the UK
Although it made the font more pixelated and graphics kinda worse, it made my PC faster overall. Thumbs Up! Thank you for making this! I really recommend this.
A long-time PC tech, I find few Win10 computers with HDDs need Defrag as the service auto-runs ongoingly keeping fragmentation to ~0%. Also, try typing _System Maintenance_ into the Start Menu input space-no need to drill down through Control Panel. Win10 is much criticised but our shops got many more OS repairs in during the 95/98/XP eras. It in many ways it self-fixes and is lots more secure than those OS's (though I still need Malwarebytes weekly to clear PUPs).
Thank you so much for your user-friendly instructions! For some reason, the print quality on my laptop screen looks very 'grainy' now. Is this to be expected after following this tutorial?
All of your videos are SUPER helpful and easy to follow...thank you! Is there a video on how to download a free version of Microsoft Word w/o creating an account with them? I only need Word, not the entire Office suite...Thank you!
I use my Win10 laptop in desktop mode, for serious work not those annoying childish tiles showing me what the weather is and so on. I discover that Windows 10 however, in the background, is still downloading the latest news, new recipes, celebrity gossip, weather information, newspaper articles and so on in the background without me even noticing. So I uninstalled all these programs/apps I will never use anyway. Sped it up even more. Also: don't let defrag run automatically, it will slow things down drastically. Set it to manual and occasionally defrag when you are not using your computer. Same for updates, only check for updates when you finished using the computer: you can still do it daily. Great video, thanks!
You could also set up a extra ssd for cache and temp directory. Especially if you want the ssd to last longer. I set up one 30gb ssd for this task. Since I didn't had a better use for it.
SO helpful! Your instructions and demonstrations were clear and incredibly easy to follow. I followed your instructions and it has made a 100% difference in my computer speed. Thank you so much!
here's a few suggestions for speeding up Macs at home Use the Activity Monitor. If you'd like to see what apps are using up your system, open the Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Turn off visual effects. Most Macs are now capable of running Mac OS X Mavericks. Update your software (and it set to auto update) Clean up your hard drive. (I learned these and why they work on Achak Speed Plan website )
When I saw an iObit product on your desktop, I almost hit the next video button. Also, you can hit the defrag on an SSD, all it does is trim the SSD in seconds. Nice job on the video.
So many people just don't know how crucial it is to have an SSD drive. Esp on a desktop when you can have multiple. Just buy a small one, partition roughly 30gig for windows 10 (30 is a little over kill but helps to have extra with updates) install the operating system (win 10) on the 30 gig partition. And format the left over space on the SSD to install your highly used program's. Use your old spinning disk hard drive for file storage. Your computer will be fast as lighting! My computer is ready to rock and roll about 12 to 15 secs after I hit the power button. Programs open in the blink of an eye! In my opinion adding an SSD drive is the biggest difference maker in upgrading your machine. After that, double your RAM. At minimum 8 gig. I would do at least 16gig to keep you future proof for a little while.
The number one bootup slowdown I have observed in windows 10 are the system files. These files are backups of the windows system so that a user can go back to a previous start date if the system becomes corrupted. On the disk clean up pane there is a separate click box called clean up system files. It is not part of the file check list box. Click on clean up system files and you will get a warning about deleting all but the last back up. Click OK because the last backup is really all you need. I did this for two people who were about to scrap their computers and the results have been dramatic. (Half Hour to a minute boot up) As a note if you have an SSD drive as your "C:" drive (wonderful technique). Delete the recycle bin often as this is taking up prime data storage. If you have a separate hard drive (I have a 1 Terabyte HD as my "D:" drive) then see if you have any large folders like PICTURES or videos and move them from the SSD drive to the regular HD. Create a short Cut on your desktop/laptop. I had been downloading my guitar lessons to the SSD and it filled up the "C:" drive causing all sorts of problems. (I only had 128GB, 256GB is common now)
1). I’ve been doing commercial computing for more than 30-years. Occasional defrag of a SSD is normal in blade server environments. This can remove up to 50% of the boot-time required. Very few SSD have been damaged. The conventional wisdom on this is totally untrue. 2). While Win-10 is the best Microsoft has ever done, for internal performance, it remains not the most efficient system ever made. Better performance, even on the same hardware, will be yielded by wiping the drive, and installing anything besides Windows on the hardware. This allows users to escape the data-mining that is now legendary, no BSOD, much less intrusions from malware, better rendering of webpages, with fewer ‘.net’ intrusions. The list of improvements possible, by escaping from Windows, is several pages long. It’s your hardware, it’s your money, and your time. You choose...
Hey, this showed up on my defrag list do you know what it is? I tried to look it up but no use. \\?\Volume(4d082d1a-870f-4e0e-bb41-70108d2f18c9)\ It says it's from last night when I downloaded GIMP there is also another one like that listed from last night. But I uninstalled Gimp today as my laptop was acting quite sluggish and I know it had a problem loading Gimp last night, but it finally worked and loaded. But like I said, it was wacking out my laptop today and I have very few things on my laptop, mainly using to surf and stream. Any help would be appreciated if you know what the hell that thing means. Thanks
Nothing will i prove your load time and performace like having Solid state drive, 16gb of memory and a i7 6700k. Google Chrome and open pdf eat up memory. My load time is 3 seconds
Do you want to make any Windows platform faster get an SSD. I am running windows 10 on a 2009 HP laptop with an SSD and it is very fast. I also keep it streamlined and don’t put a lot of crap on it. This other stuff is a waste of time.
This is because it defragments HDD (Harddisk drive) but automatically trims SSDs (Solid State Drives). - Any defragmenter that defragments HDD, as well as the SSDs, will substantially reduce the life of the SSD. - Therefore, an SSD should never be defragmented only Trimmed. - Trim is the only safe method to optimize the method of an SSD. - If an SSD is defragmented occasionally than it shouldn't do much damage, but it is best to never defragment an SSD. - In the past, Microsoft uses to defragment SSD. - I also thought that MS's defragmenter would also defragment rather than Trim my C:\SSD, but surprisingly I saw Trim whilst it was processing that verified hopefully that it automatically now trims SSDs instead of defragmenting (ruin) SSDs. - But Microsoft should state that the defragmenter automatically trims SSDs safely instead of defragmenting (ruin) SSDs.
I am a Linux user, I use Windows only for installing exe softwares. For me Windows is a bad choice for multiples reasons like security concerns, vulnerability to viruses, lagging, not free, resource consuming, limited customization... Try a popular Linux distribution like Ubuntu or Mint and see the difference.
Dear Sir, This is Basavaraj From India, Would like to request you to kindly help me about why should not do De fragmentation on SSD Drive . During this Video, You said that.... do not do Defragmentation .. Could you please tell me the reason Sir ? Thanking you, Basavaraj From India,
Dear Sir, Thank you For giving Answer in Short And Sweet.. Sir, Prolong means Durability of Drives or it can be used for long period of time... Is it Correct Sir?
This video was in my RU-vid recommended page... 5-UNIX’s 17-Linux’s All the above built to install on Wintel hardware. Erase hard drive and install one of the above. Faster, cleaner, no virus’s, and few of the problems associated with Windows, especially Windows-10. Like for example, raiding your user system for Microsoft’s data mining to sell to customers of big data. Not a rumor, is totally true. Yea I know it’s illegal, and like many other things, laws can be broken as long as you’re not arrested.
i go by your videos as you speak so i defragged my ssd before you stopped to say dont. you should consider how you upload these videos. hopefully i didnt fuck anything up. lesson learned.
nice video, good stuff. definitely for more basic users, perhaps couldve called the video ""---For dummies" lol ;) but regardless... thank you kindly sir, people like yourself make youtube Great again!.
Calling this video for dummies is stupid: name one person (apart for people who have photographic memory haven't forgotten something (rusty) and have to refresh their memory). - To become an expert usually takes thousands of times repeating something to become an expert/master which usually takes at least 5 years and preferably ten years. - But perhaps you have never forgotten anything in your entire life. - I can't remember if this video includes deleting; %temp%, temp, and prefetch - But if you don't know how to solve a problem it is difficult - if you have virtually perfected something than it is as simple as 2+2 = 4. - Intelligence is relative. I have been using Advanced SystemCare (ASC) free version: Clean & Optimize\Select All (You may want to untick either one or both; Registry Defrag or Disk Optimization) then scan your computer. But I don't have ASC automatically monitoring (running in the background) I just scan manually when I require it: I use the following free cleaners manually to (scan and repair); ASC, CCleaner, Wise Cleaner 365, & Norton Utilities (NU) but you may have to pay for NU so don't use NU.
Schedule the disk check. And then restart your computer when you can do without the computer for approximately 20 - 30 minutes. And make sure to select the "Automatically Fix Errors" option on the Disk Check, before you click on "Ok".
The best method to increase performance is not use Windows 10. Sorry I know it's been said over and over again but it's true. Many people haven't worked with it on an enterprise level, which I can tell you gets very tiresome. In the last two years I've seen so many hard disk failures it's unreal. This never happened with windows 7 or earlier.
You're right unfortunately Alex. We absolutely can't stand Windows 10. It's just too slow and the constant update prompts and restarts are irritating. And it's pretty bad when the tech companies can't stand an operating system.
i have just relized, In Task manager i have had windows update on stop for about a full year or 2 year, im only at windows 8.1, i dunno how to boost to windows 10
EnBee 36 i did the windows 10 update, some odd reason my wifi was glued off and wouldnt turn back on, stuck on airplane mode and i had to downgrade back to 8.1
Doesn't help if you run subpar hardware. The minimum requirements between XP and 10 are pretty large. If you want an uptodate OS that is light in resource requirements, I'd look at Linux.
