Greetings Taiji from Rhode Island (the smallest state in America)! I've recently become obsessed with Japanese cuisine and the excitement of such an array of flavor from such simple ingredients. I can see that this recipe will most assuredly be no different. The execution seems quite straight forward which makes me excited to try this. I'm so happy I found your channel a few months ago and I always look forward to your new uploads. I saw another comment that referenced your "Slurp Alert" and I have to say, it's one of the highlights of your videos. It basically says "This is delicious and I'm enjoying it." Continue to slurp - it never fails to bring a smile to my face!

This is a wonderful basic recipe that anyone can customize according to their preferences and what vegetables are in the refrigerator. I do find it just a bit bland as written, but with the freshest ingredients picked from my garden, it becomes very delicious Thank you for sharing such a versatile meal. The best thing to do about those who dislike noodle slurping is to ignore them without a second thought. Good for you!

i LOVE that ive found a food tuber FROM GERMANY doing japanese cuisine!!!!! it makes it so much easier to follow for me because i actually recognize the regular brands you are using and even most of the specifically japanese/asian ingredients are stuff that ive seen in my local asia market. greetings from Darmstadt! ps: what do you think of the "all groo" brand of instant udon they sell here? they have vacuum packed wet udon and despite that an incredible shelf life. ive always got a couple of packs in the fridge for the "emergency hot soup" desire.

That looks so good, and so easy. And I am so sorry that people have given you a hard time about slurping, which is so normal in Asian culture. (Get out of your own backyards, rude Americans! Cultures and traditions vary around the world!) On no other channel do I see "slurp alerts," and it saddens me you think you have to do that in order to appease your rude viewers. (I'd love to see you forgo that practice, frankly. They need to get over it.) I think having everything in place is imperative to the success of this dish. You can't be finishing up chopping the vegetables and looking for the soy sauce as your first batch of veg is cooking - you'll end up with a wilted soggy mess. You are a good teacher. Thank you for this video and I hope you enjoy your upcoming weekend.

I watched your video about the history of Japanese cuisine. It would be interesting to me if you gave a little background on the dishes you make. Does it have a connection to the more ancient cuisine, or is it a more recent phenomenon? Not necessarily every time but if there is an interesting development it would be fun to hear.😊
@taijiskitchen
@taijiskitchen Год назад
thanx for the advice! I actually try to do exactly that, lol. bc many Japanese dishes have some kind of interesting background story how it got evolved. but this Yaki udon doesnt have much, rather new developed in the last 100 years or so as a street food.

Would you consider adding some ginger, garlic, and just a drop of toasted sesame seed oil to this? Also, if one guest wanted spicy what would you suggest having on hand?
@albertage1231
@albertage1231 Год назад
Ginger,no.don’t fit. For spicy I’d advice chop some chili,not chili powder,since chili powder have a smell that will interfere. Sesame oil a few drops would do, drops, it’s strong

@johnbrazell2433
@johnbrazell2433 Год назад
Looks simple and easy and yummy. But here's a question I've wanted to ask for a while. Why is the slurping necessary? Can't you just put the food in your mouth without having to slurp or suck it in. I do.
@taijiskitchen
@taijiskitchen Год назад
it is not "necessary" but just a way we eat. it actually taste better, since you inhale more air with the food, making the smell reach more in the nose. people (also in the west) slurp, when they do coffee or wine tasting. so its just a preference/cultural thing, and in Japan slurping is accepted i.e. encouraged. so I am showing here in this channel not only how we cook, but also how we eat. but as in the video, I apologize, if it bothers you.
