In this video I grab a 2016 Haro BMX Bike and we make it a bit faster!
If you have big Sprockets*
If you're riding a bigger freewheel hub at the rear changing the rear freewheel for a smaller one (eg 16t to 14t ) will have the same effect.
Thanks for watching

Note: This video is purely based on my experience with riding bikes, 50% of the time the front or rear sprocket is swapped out to suit my riding, this is best suited for flat road and long distance rather than park or dirt.

I know this video is a bit old, when you pay attention right after the install , your speed increased and you were still pushing it. I know you noticed when you first jumped on. Thumbs up

Would bigger wheels help? Changing the gear at the back?

Bigger wheels would help but you need to make sure your frame would actually fit them

Gears I’ve run… 44/16 180mm cranks 45/16 “” 46/16 “” 44/16 175mm 45/16 177.5mm 43/15 and back on 180mm 46/16 w 180mm was good for novice class but too slow for int so I started experimenting. I’m presently running 43/15 w 180mm - 43 helps me get out of the gate a little better and 15 helps me get a better top end. I’m not a flaming hot spinner so this combo seems to work well for my powerband. I do better with a longer slower stroke. Rollout is several inches better. If I get any stronger I’ll move back up to 44 on front keep at 15 rear and 180mm

Now that you measured from 25 to 28. Try 28 to 30/31/32.

If you're dedicated to bike building I'd hit up RU-vid for most infomation I'm sure a local bike shop would do the job at a reasonable price Been doing it for awhile myself and had to learn heaaaps but it's a helpful skill to have

my new bmx is 44t chainring 16t rear sprocket its very hard to pedal? what size do i need to make my bmx smooth to pedal
@AaroMesa
@AaroMesa 9 месяцев назад
That would be the norm for your bike, there could be a problem with the bearings in the hubs if it shows resistance

Put 32t chainring instead of 44t

I'm assuming the rear sprocket is 16 teeth I'm old school and honestly don't recall how many teeth we had on the crank sprocket but it was twice the size of what I see on bikes these days

I do like the 25/9 gear ratio but I find 44/16 is speedier and less stiff.

So I just got a bmx been awhile I plan on mainly hitting like paved trails and just messing around in town riding ( not all flat and speed ) would you recommend a smaller front sprocket ? Or swap the front and the rear cog ?
@x88868

30/9 would be ideal.
@AaroMesa

I'd go 30 to 9 Have the same on my every day rider for terrain which is mainly flat

@@AaroMesa I'm currently riding 31/9. I'm thinking about dropping down to 30/9. Seems to be the best ideal gear for a BMX. Not so much struggle for a single speed yet fast enough to actually get around. I also think crank length matters. I'm running 175mm.

28/9 is a nice ratio. My 30/9 is a bit harder to pedal

I don't know BMX but in Fixed or Track or other. Bigger chain ring is a trend. You have more power and faster despite you trade it off with cadence a bit slower. You also able to keep top end speed better as well. The spinning like crazy to top out speed is old school now. By the way, still depends on where you lives. If you lives where hilly area. Stick with common sense and your strength.

Yeah man I did mention if you live near hills to stick with a lower gearing :D

Cheers! I keep me eyes on local buy sell pages as they tend to have very cheap bikes and good deals sometimes.
