I feel sorry for whoever I commission to do my boi, he has these tiny spots on his leg that would *have* to be airbrushed *cri* I need to make him a fursuit friendly ref
I’m gonna make my own and he’s supposed to have a bunch of follow me eyes on his ears and mouths on his paws (idk how to explain the mouths) and the mouth on his head is supposed to zip up so uhm…
My new fursona(s? They’re technically 2 personalities in 1 body so…) has leopard print but they’re rlly big and not realistic so I don’t think it’d be too bad (compared to my other Sona, Poptart)
I forced myself to limit the number of markings on my main sona yesterday. She originally had over 300 markings on her back ALONE (it was a marbling effect with neon green, black, and purple), and I reduced it to under 20. I made the markings larger, with fewer of them. Hoping to make my sona into a fursuit one day, so that's a start.
Great video Skye! Just a suggestion for next Maker Masterclass, could we have more photo's with examples of suits/designs that have the features that you are talking about? As a more visual person, this would really help me and I'm sure a lot of others would benefit as well.
Protip: Not mine. I'm doing a deer with moderate (for an actual deer) sized antlers, and by chance also stripes, including thin stripes. And a decently long hairstyle. And little freckles (maybe) Fortunately I've got sewing experience, and watching doll customizers has given me some ideas on the hair. It will require some testing as well, but I think latch hooking (and then fuzzing/furring out the yarn) might be a solution for adding thin stripes and markings, maybe also for making yarn wefts for the hair. I also have woodcarving experience, which works nicely with some modeling compounds, for the antlers. I only have myself to blame for this mess.
i am so glad my sona is already fursut friendly (he only uses white, cream and light brown) and has big patches except freckles which i will prob simplyfy to just 3-4 symmethrical dots
Omg I watched TanelleFlowers’ vid about animation friendly designs years ago and somehow never considered the question of fursuit friendly designs and my mind was blown. I’m glad that my sparkle cat design was as basic as I can get it for a partial (Still wish I had a suit tho 😭 Ngl, even if dyeing the fur was a thing, the colors will fade, so a waste of money.
"Crazy large body parts" This coming from you, who made me a 5' 8" tail... then had to lop 6 inches off it :P Miss ya, Skye. Hope we can catch up more soon.
watching this months later as i prep to make my suit. And my sona has freckles and long bangs so this will help a lot. At least i know how i want to modify the design so i don't feel the need to create a whole other ref
With all the comments I don't know if you're going to see this but I wanted to say that i really love your tutorials And whenever my friends ever need advice I almost always recommend you I'm making my first fursuit tail And your tutorials made it super easy
I think mine is fairly friendly lol. He is just a big tealish wickerbeast (specifically kingbeast) with some bluish splotches on him. They aren't symmetrical but they are huge
It's kind of interesting to see how different fursuit makers philosophies are. I get excited when hearing about stuff like antlers or long hair. I'd love to build more of that. Right now I am working on a suit that has relatively big resin horns. They are quite heavy and not wearable for a long time so I am also making a second set of horns out of minky. They need to be removable for shipping anyways. The character also has antenna and a tail that is supposed to look like it is made out of a gel like substance. I see that as a fun challenge.
Two of my sonas that I actually plan to make suits of (my pfp included) were actually designed pretty much the same way she described here. I ordered fur samples and looked at what was available/affordable, and I ended up with a lisa-frank style cat and I love her!
I think my fursona is fairly simple. He’s literally all black, crimson eyes, and 4 crimson teeth. Yes, he’s a dinomask, but he’s going to be a digigrade (I can’t spell it lol) fullsuit soon. Paws and feet and I’ll be done! I have no motivation to finish him rn because I’m sick but my demon suit will be done soon! lol
I really wanted to make my first suit- so rather than picking colors from the color wheel- I picked straight from a fur seller! I can have close blues while knowing it will work :)
2:40 hey, that's my sona's color pallete XD (except I have a slightly darker tan, and I have more of an orange, and also red) because teal/turquoise, burnt orange, and maroon are my top 3 fav colors. then the brown and tan help bring them all together as the base colors
Tip to make your design fursuit friendly If it would cause depression or carple tunnel to make. Probably don't, remember fursuit makers are real people 😭 Also if you want a more complicated suit like a realistic one or a suit with compacated patterns, I recommend haveing some fursuit makeing experience or a friend who can fix the suit if it breaks
I always make sure I have mainly big-medium markings that are decently spread apart For example I have a pointy marking on the neck and 2 on the body that are on each side, conected with a THICKKK line And 3 freckles on each side And a huge red teardrop taking up majority of each leg
My character has long hair and I just used brushed-out and heat-treated yarn. He's still in the making but they may be attached by velcro for easy and unmessy cleaning. (however, these hairs WILL fall apart so over time you will have to make it again... but they look AWESOME)
I might have to change my design a little for my fursuit. Maybe I should have my 5 tails be smaller and shorter hair. The gradient isn’t too big an issue for me. But could be remedied to make it easier for me.
as a person with no experience in making fursuits my markings are extremly simple and well idk if you cna even count it as a marking its jsut the belly colour but for anyone experience with fursuits is an anteater a good species for a first fursuit? and it is going to be toony but should i make the big claws or keep them med sized? i would love to make pablo come to life as he is well my favourite non-horror related design for a fursona
Anyone have suggestions for how to make a custom "skull" out if resin, or any shops to ask? I love my boi (see profile pic) but i just dont have the 3D tools to make something like that.
You could try making it out of clay first (build it onto a mannequin head for size) then making a mold out of mold putty, then using resin, or even expanding foam, to make the final positive.
me: Oh my half and half moth dragon character can't be THAT fursuit unfriendly. *remembers the tail is twice as long as the character* Me: ah, nevermind- the tail would be like 10ft long-
This was so helpful. New furry here and currently trying to decide on my sona atm. I'm trying to think on whether or not I want to save for a con or suit. Both still at least a year ( or more). However I've been looking at makers (you included) for pricing.
Never knew I commented on this. I'm getting a realistic base soon, and have planned to do a white and blue grey character. He def breaks so of these rules, and is probably slightly harder than my other mains, but I hoping to airbrush or paint everything. The main problem is that he's based off an oarfish and has a ton of spots and stripes, and has these spikey fins on this head, that reaches the tip of his tail.... aaaand his tail is quite long.
For my fursuit tail I made a full size super motion tail out of 1inch Eva floor mats and 1 inch foam and I’m going to have it so I could take off the fur and put on different fur for different personal fursuits This will also hopefully have it so I can put the fur into the washing machine without having to worry about it drying incorrectly! What is your thoughts on it?
My sonas design is mostly pretty simple, i think, the fur only has three colors--base color, spots, and then these annoying little stars. Im making my suit myself, so my plan is to just pattern everything else out and then figure out where and how big i want the stars to be. Bc i never keep them in the same spots lol
my fursona has a couple of markings im slightly anxious about when it comes to getting a fursuit... they have three simplified hyacinths on one of their thighs and a sun with sunglasses (yes im serious, it is a sun with sunglasses) on their chest.. im in the process of making them a new ref so i wanna find a way to simplify that second one more
I was browsing through my subscriptions and saw it said you havent posted… I thought: “hang on, that cant be right…. That’s supposed to show me if theres any un watched videos from you. But i havent checked in? I dont wanna know…. Is she stopped posting?! Nooo :( “ But no, she posted, youtube was just drunk :/ Thank goodness
Hi! Just asking. So the more easier the patterns/colour is, the more cheaper the fursuit/partial be? Like for example, my fursona is a plain orange cat with orange-yellow paws and a orange tail with orange-yellow tip?
Hey! As a beginner-ish fursuit maker, makers usually price depending on materials and time taken. That being said, the less colors used and the more simple of a design should reduce pricing of a suit!
ello there all, Im pretty new to furr suit making ive been watching tutorials left and right and i have a fair understanding of everything , so far, and i know you all probably get asked this a lot but do you guys have any tips on furring fur suit heads? I watched skye's tutorial videos but Im still pretty confused, (btw Skeys videos have been helpful I just have a small brain compacity to understand anything lol , have a good day : > )
My main fursona is a yellow dragon with turquoise semi short hair and a simple tail. No problem there But my second one is a grey and white rabbit with long blue hair, ¿how can i make her long hair without using a wig?
I have a fursona that has one line about an inch wide around the middle of each of her ears and one line about the same one inch just below her elbow on each arm and below that the rest of the arm to the fingers is the same color with like a tan for the fingers And a final line at the end of her tail thats maybe 1 1/2 - 2 inches? Is that still fursuit friendly??
I have a question, when making a fursuit head, could you use a balaclava as an alternative to the bucket head method? Ive seen many videos using a balaclava, but i don't knowif it is used instead of a bucket foam base Please help
No, baklavas are used to protect the internal foam of the suit, you need a baklava if your suit head is unlined they are not used in place of a bucket head base
I want to ask ya if my oc is fursuit friendly! My oc has a very basic pattern expect for the tail as the pattern for the tail is red black orange black yellow black green black blue black and black. I understand if you don’t see this comment as important so you don’t have to answer I understand ^^
heya! something i have wondered about for a while is, “is it even possible for a singular fursuit to have three long floor dragging tails?” and if so, what would you price for it? i am curious because my fursona has this, and i really just want to know if is physically possible.
Is this fursuit friendly: Orange elephant with short fur, caramel coloured accents and a scorpion tail. PLS HELP CUZ I DONT WANNA MAKE A REF SHEET THEN I HAVE TO CHANG EIT
With recent events within the community taking people to hurt children at charity events. Makers should keep track of where there suit is going to so they don't get caught up in negative press about there suits.
