In this video we show you how to make your own outliner for glass painting. This outliner (sometimes called Cerne Relief or contour paste) can be use with both waterbased and solvent glass paints. It is peelable so can be used to make window stickers but when used with solvent paints it is sealed onto the glass.
Great for making Outliner in any colour you need.

I guessed to mix acrylic with caulk by myself, but could not come up with the method to make a nice relief line. I used a small brush, and that just did not work that well. Then I've used those special bottles with nozzles, they worked for about 5 seconds, and then there were air bubbles, and blobs of paint. I'll be trying your method - looks very promising, and I do not have to buy anything, which is an additional plus.

mine keeps setting or going realy lumpy and hard do you know what the name of filler in Australia is called
@eolandeeliva8655
@eolandeeliva8655 5 лет назад
Thanks for your videos. They're great! Quick question. I went looking here in Australia, for the closest equivalent of the acrylic filler/sealant you used..and found something described as "Sealant Adhesive Polyurethane- permanently flexible high bond strength, waterproof, paintable." Does that sound OK to use? We don't have the No Nonense brand here that you use.
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 5 лет назад
It sound OK from your description BUT, as always, I would recommend testing just to ensure it doesn't react to the paint etc.

Hi thanks for the useful video but i wanna ask how can I make a water resistant glass outliner that i can use for drawing on cups or mugs without any fear of washing them. I use pebeo and it helps but really expensive in Egypt and rare too. Thanks
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 5 лет назад
Unfortunately because the outliner needs to be put in the oven I am unable to recommend any home made version (as i don't know what chemicals are in various products or how they will react to being heated). There is another make of oven bake outliner which you may want to compare to the Pebeo one for price and availability. "Lefranc & Bourgeois Glass & Tile Paint Outliner ". Hope that helps.

Thnx for the method .Pl tell me what filler you mentioned in d making of the liner .Also pl let me know how to thin down ready made liners that seem to have dried a bit .thnx
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 3 года назад
This is a flexible bathroom filler. The sort of stuff you would seal the bath, shower or window with. If an outliner has "Thickened" and is waterbased then you can try adding a few drops of water to make it smoother. Only add a few drops at a time give it a really good stir. Unfortunately if it has actually dried then there is nothing you can do. This newer article might make the process of making your own clearer: www.glasspainting.co.uk/glass-painting-projects/glass-painting-using-household-items

Hi! Can I use PVC glue with acrylic paint instead of the sealant for outliner? How can I protect the paint from peeling if I paint the glass with acrylic paint instead of glass paint? Thanks.
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 4 года назад
I would think you could use acrylic paint but best to do a little test first. If you want to seal paints I would normally use a clear uv varnish (spray) but again I haven't done this with acrylics so another test would be good.

hello - i live in india and discovered we cannot get acrylic frame sealant like what you have used in this video. so could you please advise me what is the alternate i could look for, as the glass outliners available here are very difficult to use, as you yourself found out when you reviewed the fevicryl product. thank you.

Yes basically. There are a number of sealants that will work. Just ensure it's the flexible type.

I am using the same ingredients as you- trying to make a black liner. When I add the acrylic paint it is still grey and making the sealant very water. Could this be from a cheap quality paint?
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 6 лет назад
It could be although I admit the paint I used was pretty cheap! You can try other things for the colour. In the past I used watercolour paints (just because I had them around) and printer ink! (First thing I would check it that the acrylic paints haven't separated so you are getting watery/colourless stuff off the top).
@aimeegionet9178
@aimeegionet9178 6 лет назад
Glass Painting thank you very much for your reply. The paints aren't separating but I think I may experiment with a powdered dye instead, that way it wouldn't water it down. Thanks again, very new to this but trying to start my own business doing this in Canada :)
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 6 лет назад
When I sold finished items for a living I used Plaid Gallery Glass outliner. It's a "soft" outliner so it can be washed down but not soaked. The bonus was I could get it in large 8oz (240ml) bottles which made it cost effective, even more so because I was buying it at trade prices!
@aimeegionet9178
@aimeegionet9178 6 лет назад
Glass Painting I will look for that size. The largest I've been able to find it 2 ounces. Here in Canada things are extremely over priced. For example the exact sealant you use I can see is about 5 Canadian dollars when bought from screw fix....which doesn't ship to Canada. On Amazon.ca which usually has the cheapest stuff around it is 62 dollars. (I found the same stuff from a local company) I want to make any profit I'm going to have to make it myself Lol!

can you please say that how I can make black outliner for glass painting
@GlassPainting

the method used in this video should work fine. Just use black acrylic paint rather than one of the other colours.
@meriso4173
@meriso4173 7 лет назад
I was wondering, how does high temperatures ans soap and water affect the clings?
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 7 лет назад
High weather temperatures shouldn't affect them but they may "dry out" a little, meaning they will peel off but not re-stick. If this does happen just wipe down the back of the peelie with a damp cloth and you should be fine again. Having them too close to a cooker or something may be an issue. Soap and water should be fine, I regularly wash them down on the windows. Sometimes if they get very wet some of the areas may go "cloudy", especially if you have used clear paint. However that soon goes away. Hope that helps.

Which 'Solvent paints' is used for sticking to glass? Will the out liner stick to glass?
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 6 лет назад
There are two types of outliner, a soft one and a hard one. Both will stick to glass fine. If I am using a bought one I tend to use Gallery Glass Liquid Lead. Again there are many solvent based glass paints. I mostly use Pebeo Vitrail but also use Lefranc & Bourgeois and Marabu. You will find reviews of various outliners and paints on our site. Hope this helps.

@GlassPainting

I haven't used that particular brand but having just looked it up it does seem like the type of thing you can use. Can a suggest doing a small test so if it doesn't work for any reason they you don't waste too much.
