How to make your own sink tips for fly fishing 2.0

Late to this but Nail knot to 25# is a great idea. I've been looking for DIY sink tip ideas for a few weeks because I'm just too cheap to buy them. I just made a sinking tip with some level sinking line i had. I welded loops onto a 10' piece to make a sink tip. I timed a small piece sinking in a tall glass of water to be about 6 ips. I also welded my skaget head to some level running fly line (very smooth joint). Casted it yesterday and it worked great. Your option is a lot quicker.

You can also you gsp and fold the sink tip over and wrap the gsp over the doubled up portion to form your loop. Loon knot sense helps doing it the way you show in the video or making your own loops with tying thread.

1:30 and 1:40 and a few other of my fish popped up! Ha.

Hi Seth & thanks for the great idea. Quick question - have you used this system for fishing smaller, lighter wet flies e.g. soft hackles? I am curious if you have experienced any 'hinging' as a result of the Maxima loops not being perfectly flush to the ends of the sinking line. Airflo, Orvis, and possibly other manufacturers offer polyleaders and Versileaders, but at $15-20 a pop, making my own from level sinking line sounds a lot more appealing. It appears that 7ips is the lightest Airflo product available, and I am hoping this won't overwhelm my 10' 3wt Syndicate P2 rod. Thanks!

Cool video, thanks ..Are the T tip lengths tapered or level?..is there an particular tapered end to the tips you buy?... Or are they completely level tapered? Thanks.
