Just watched your video on saving fabric from XL and other shirts. That fabric would be perfect for zip bags and these velcro bags! you're so clever, Jan!
Just made my first one of these. It's a little messy - some of the top stitching is wonky and the ribbon isn't quite straight - and I also need to get some better fusible fleece that doesn't make the fabric crinkle - but having said that - I absolutely love it and will send this one and another one to my two little granddaughters who live on the other side of the world. They'll love them. Thanks for a great video and idea. :)
Beautifully done! Can't wait to try this! Love the tips you share as well. And thank you for a printed pattern!!! This is the first of your videos I have watched, but I will definitely look for more.
as a note: velcro needs to be cleaned on occassion. (snack bags probably not as much) they actually sell a sort of "cleaning brush" that works wonders. my velcro sneakers used to be awful.
Thank you so much Jan, I really really enjoyed watching you create this super cute snack bag. I absolutely love ❤❤❤❤❤ it and I’m going to save it and share it too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤ all your tutorials are so very very helpful and beautifully done.
@@dcwatashimy thought exactly, what do you think about placing a double sided fusible batting type product and sandwitching the batting between two pieces of the PUL fabric, to help avoid this. Obviously you can't iron directly on the PUL fabric, but another piece of fabric or a thinish towel. Just a thought. Trying to work it out in my head
@@tracywilliams5779 depends if you’re planning to actually wash it like stick it in a sink or the washing machine because you’ll have to quilt that batting to keep it to stay in place
A wonderful bag for snacks or for cosmetics. A gift for all ages, and a scrap buster too! Thanks for your masking tape tricks too! One question: are these machine washable or is just a quick rinse better? -Addie
Watched a ton of videos mostly from Vanessa the crafty Gemini and it seems that it might be better to trim the fusible fleece away from the Seam allowance. Having bulk in the seams can be an issue Any chance in your next videos that you can tell your viewers what needle you’re using what thread you’re using and what stitch length you are using? So many people forget to mention that in their videos and it’s crucial information. And I don’t know any local fabric stores that sell food safe PUL always have to get it online Also, per Vanessa of the crafty Gemini she will sew her lining seam allowance about 1/8 inch larger than the seam allowance of her outside fabric otherwise the lining isn’t going to be that smooth sitting inside your bag. So after you cross the middle point and start sewing onto your lining you just gradually come in at a slight angle so that your lining ends up being a little bit smaller than your outer Fabric
THANKS JAN, THIS IS FABULOUS. WE HAVE DEFINATELY GOT TO TAKE CHARGE OF REDUCING WASTE. IN MY EXPERIENCE THE YOUNGER GENERATION DOES NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF HELPING OUR HOME, AKA PLANET EARTH, OUT. MY DAUGHTER IS 41 AND SHE DOESN'T GET IT, BUT I HOPE SHE IS JUST THE EXCEPTION AND NOT THE RULE. I STARTED WATCHING YOUR TUTORIAL AND YOU MENTIONED A PATTERN, I STOPPED THE TUTORIAL, PURCHASED THE PATTERN AND THEN RESUMED THE VIDEO. I AM CURIOUS TO SEE WHAT ELSE YOU MAY HAVE ALONG THESE LINES. AGAIN THANKS SO MUCH. TRACY FROM IDAHO.😊

I read your comment, and I assume you are wanting to stop the stretch fabric from stretching? I would use the fusible product that they use to stabilize t-shirt quilts. I don't have a product name, but I would just Google it. Google is the best friend that I have ever had lol. That is just what I would do, if I was making what you are. Best wishes in your project, and while I'm at it, in life. Positive is the only way to go. 😊
Hi from Italy I am afraid of zippers so i am going to use velcro instead! Thanks a lot. I am afraid not of zippers, but of the way to sew them properly😅😅😅
Genius idea. Great tip. Shared the video. Today's Quote: “Do all the good you can, for all the people you can, in all the ways you can, as long as you can.” - Hillary Clinton. Huge hugs. Namaste 🐞🐞🐞
Yes, that is correct. This creates less bulk when sewing the side seams. The cuff is sewn on top of the front fabric lining up the top front edges. Here is the clip that explains that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8IzyEVT9Sbo.htmlsi=HnaI8IdE1jr3DmCu&t=275
Jan, not sure what the purpose of the iron on fleece lining is unless just for stability?? Is this airtight so snacks stay fresh? Not sure with Velcro if stays airtight. Thank you for another good one.
@@JanHowell thank you. Always look forward to notice of a new tutorial, and always seem to be at the time I need that exact thing. You are a mind reader.
How do you know the PUL is food safe. It does not state that in the description. I only see that it is recommended for waterproofing diapers and bibs etc.
Just tried sewing Velcro for the first time and it did not work. The thread came right out and looked like the top and bottom thread ever connected. Should I be using a specific needle or presser foot?
A couple of tips that I use that might help. Increase the stitch length to 3 mm. Start sewing about 2 inches past the raw edge. This helps keep the presser foot level. Hold the thread for a few stitches at the beginning to help prevent a thread nest or having the top from becoming unthreaded. A universal 80/12 or 90/14 needle should work just fine. I prefer microtex needles when I have fabrics that are different thicknesses. I hope these are helpful. Enjoy your sewing journey. Blessed Be. BtW 💫
Does your machine respond like this on regulare fabric? Sounds like the bobbin or needle may be in wrong. Check that and also check to make sure the machine is threaded correctly. You don't need a special pressure foot. Does the velcro you are using have adhesive on the back. That really messes things up.
