I get it. I didn't buy my Impreza Sport Limited to go fast. I've toyed with the thought of exhaust and intake replacement. But the cost far outweighs the benefits. So thanks again for the clarification in the beginning. Gonna go out and pull that filter. I think it's actually part of the PZEV equation. But it won't hurt your car to pull it out.

If you mean you're not going to succeed in getting any major HP gains I would agree with you. However, for two very simple changes, an AEM dryflow filter and a 3 inch cat back exhaust, I've gained 12 hp. All I was looking for was 10 to 15 hp just enough to give it a tiny bit more kick. I consider this a very cost-effective improvement.

Hey man thanks for the tip, will definitely try it on my new 13 impreza sport. You can also take the filter out without removing anything. Just undo those two clips above the filter and pull the side out with the flexible hose. I guess you could unplug the mass air flow sensor to be safe too

Just did this to my ‘12 Impreza hatch. I swear I’m not just saying this, and yeah it’s not a tremendous difference, but so far the car is absolutely more spry below 3K rpm. It used to hesitate pulling out onto a street but it absolutely feels just a bit better now

takeing the filter out youll feel the differences + aftermarket intake for sure but i have the 2.5i forseter Fb full intake an exausht an it gets it on turbo cars

Hey guy there's a guy that sells tune for subaru impreza 2.0l engine it is noticeable difference and also hes turboed his impreza and he going release kit if your look for headers has those to for 2012 to 2020 impreza the subaru impreza can handle more then people think

took out the charcoal filter on my 2020 impreza...barely noticeable to no difference, also replaced my exhaust with a nameless exhaust, the straight pipe, a little too loud and a little noticeable low end rev.

Serious question Tom : what do you think about adding an small electric fan to the intake, would that mess up the computers gas control or possibly "slightly" boost power?

Wouldn’t it be easy as pie to install the wrx intake-turbo-exhaust system? The ecu should be plug and play as well. The only issue is the oil supply to the turbo.

Or you can just buy a performance Chip that plugs in to your obd i know a few ppl who have done that and got close to 60+ hp out of it

Probably wont damage the car, but I wager that it *would* invalidate the warranty if the dealer noticed it, and might also lead to failing an emissions inspection. I might try this on an older vehicle, but would not do it for one under warranty. (Depending on one's scruples, I suppose you could put it back before taking it in to the dealer?) BTW, it just seems like an automatic reaction for everyone who road tests the car to complain about lack of power. I have an Impreza, and honestly, it seems fine, even with a couple of passengers. I drive on relatively flat terrain though; it probably would feel slow at high elevations in the mountains.

I have a ‘19 Impreza sport. If I take off that carbon filter it won’t damage anything correct. Trying to get it run a bit faster.

That “black piece” that funnels air to the air filter has some black plastic panels in front of it when the hood is closed. If you knock or cut out those panels, wouldn’t it allow cooler air into the intake?

The charcoal filter is used to trap the gas fumes that will/can escape from your engine when you turn off your car. ( #environmentstuff ) Look it up if you don't believe it. Spoke to my Subaru dealer before removing mine as well and I can back up TomVangTV's statement on some added low end POWER!

Please use performance air filter, it is not expensive, just 50$ and can give you more horsepower, DO NOT just remove the original air filter. It will hurt your engine in a long term, upgrade your car scientifically

Lies I have a 2020 Subaru Impreza look my page up. I out in a k&n cold air and now its better at 3 rpms are jumps my mph alot faster and sound way better

Can't you just install nitrous oxide? Should add about 50hp, bring it up to normal.. Not that I'd spend any money on my Impreza 2.0. It's gutless but the fuel economy is amazing. Sorta like it like that... but man every so often I wish it had 50 more horses.
