This videos is one of my favourites in your channel and it's sad to see that (due to the Windows and Android tablets revisited here) the video got old. I'd really like an updated version of this video. Hope you can read it, Michael. PS: As I see this video and write this comment I'm on a Starbucks using my Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and the K480 Logitech keyboard, they got old too. Greetings from Argentina!

I do the same thing with my Samsung tab 4 cause it works well for most things, the only reason I need a laptop is for programming and that's the only thing I couldn't get working smoothly on a tablet. But other than that, I'm gonna use my tablet as a daily driver after college :) Plus there's so many cloud based and really nice Android based apps that allow from everything to work

A year ago I was in Orlando for a conference and had my MacBook Air, 12" iPad Pro, and iPhone 8 Plus. For some reason. I decided that over the next year I would leave the MacBook at home and only use the iPad. The iPhone always goes. For the past year, I've only used the iPad for mobile computing. I use Google Remote Desktop to access my MacBook on the go, and it works so well that it's like having a full Mac OS on the iPad (with a few exceptions in weak service areas). The battery life, weight, beautiful screen resolution, and built-in LTE connectivity all make the iPad Pro pretty idea for computing on the go. I'd love it if they'd beef up the OS a bit, and allow me to run full-power software. But for my writing and related work, it's been amazing. And I'm pretty sure I could do my podcasting and video work with it if I had to. Maybe I'll work up to it.

five years ago, I would've never thought tablets would be a laptop replacement. I've bought a keyboard case for my 6 year old tablet because I finally see the need. I'd also reccomend using parsec as a RD solution. It's free, and gives you an actual connection to your desktop

I use my iPad Pro with a Logitech Create keyboard cover as my "Laptop" and it's been really great. Along with the Apple Pencil, it's been the perfect traveling sketchbook as well as a general use media consumption device. I like that it doesn't do as much as my desktop computer since allows me to be connected without having to be bothered by work. It's really convenient and fits my lifestyle.

It's also worth mentioning in the iPad pro's favour, duet pro turns it into a powerful dual monitor setup with no display lag on any computer, and if you spring for an Apple Pencil it turns it into a LCD drawing tablet, absolutely golden.

Quick notes, and replacing physical notebook + pen combination are my reason to have set up like this. When I need heavylifting, I go to laptop or desktop. I'm happy with my 2017 iPad 9.7" and Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard. The setup is quick and when I need the keyboard, I just open the keyboard and it is connected instantly.

I used myself a Surface 3 from launch. It's been a good device for me (after Microsoft fixed softwares issues), but in the end I needed a much more powerful device. Now I switched to a Surface Book because of that. But I agree that portability is really nice when you don't need all this power. Good video as usual :)

I've tried this before. I bought a Samsung Tab S2, a thin case with a stand, and a thin Bluetooth keyboard. I also got a micro USB to USB a female adapter to plug in peripherals. I found that technically yes, you can replace your laptop with a tablet, that I didn't want to to. The whole experience is clunky and frustrating. it's extremely difficult to do more than one thing at a time well. I much prefer a thin and light Ultrabook with decent battery life for getting work done out in the field.

I 100% agree, as in 2021 tablets have really come down in price for budget models like the Walmart ONN tablets that run Android GO 11 that cost me all of $113 USD after tax for the 10.1in Gen 2 model, and with a used Logitech K480 and Perixx wireless Bluetooth veritical mouse(helps my RSI), and the official ONN gel tablet case, I'm in for under $150 USD, and I can do most of my daily task on this tablet with no double key presses from the keyboard, and I get about 1/2 a day of use out of the tablet before needing to connect to a charger, and since the keyboard/mouse use standard AAA batteries I don't have to change them for months at a time, and I never have to worry about an internal battery going bad, so I can take them to my next tablet upgrade. So yes after he is done with his ''Into the fold" series, I think he really should revisit tablets again, and even look at budget options for people who don't want to spend upwards of $500 USD, or even more for a tablet/phone combo, as Android Go has come a long way.

They do, but they really didn't take much consideration to optimize it for tablet, even though we don't mean to use tablet to take photo. Tablet can be a great for browsing Instagram post with its bigger screen. It seems only the Windows version of Instagram that does works okay with tablet and even for desktop. Though still far from perfect as its still basically overblown phone app with tons of wasted space.

We were separated at birth! I love the Pixel C too, it is so good it is how I travel. I use a full laptop at home. I carry an Anker 26800 to last days off-grid if necessary, oh and a Scotevest Tripiformer. Good tip about the Anker dongle. I am in middle of 8 days not moving in 25 days living out of backpack and with a 12ft mains cable and Anker Powerport2 I'm the last to board plane without queuing as I don't need more than the space under the seat.

oh i went much further than that, i turned a phone into a laptop for a japanese video. i made a case for phone and keyboard with an added stand, which anyone else would probably have to do. now it's no good if you have to type long documents, and you have to charge phone and keyboard separately, but it really worked quite well. it's perfect for using next to your computer when you're in the middle of something, the odd social media reply or post, or just controlling a device on a network

Like most people, the bulk of my demanding computing is done on a desktop at the job or home. But on the go where I almost always have wifi access, one word - CHROMEBOOK! I have my backlit keyboard, all the ports I need, all the storage I need via cloud , SD card or even flash drive. And if someone spills a full grande mocha latte on it, I won't have to be hospitalized for the complete meltdown I'd have if it were a Pixle C!

I've actually been using a Dell Chromebook 13 as my primary device since 2014. 11.6" screen is small, but more usable than a 10" tablet. It can multitask like a champ, and Google Docs handles just about everything I need. The only thing I do that the Chromebook can't is retro video gaming, so I installed Linux using a simple pre-built hack called Chrouton. That also lets me use Audacity to cut audio instead of online solutions (which are surprisingly robust). I used to be a college math tutor, and the Chromebook was great to take for notes or to connect to a projector and use with online math tools provided by the university. And Chrome's Web Store has a ton more offline apps. And for those that get newer Chromebooks, Android apps (while still a bit buggy) promise a very useful future. I got my Chromebook for the low cost (bought mine refurbed for about $200), long battery life, and portability. Google Docs is fantastic, and the auto-save and syncing functions work without a hitch. I've moved on to a rMBP provided by my job (I'm a DB manager at a school district now), but I still use the Chromebook for my side gig as a technology news editor and laptop reviewer. Best tech purchase I ever made.

I'm pairing my iPad Mini 4 with a Microsoft Mobile Bluetooth keyboard! For longer trips where I might have to type, but not do any serious work, the Lightning to Camera dongle is a great way to hook up a full USB keyboard to the thing. If my Nexus 9 didn't have to restart every 2 seconds, I'd have just bought the some sort of USB OTG solution for it, instead; my Lenovo Compact USB keyboard is small enough to take anywhere, but not lap friendly, as it was clearly designed for a desk For actual work, I have a full on Skylake Zenbook with Core M3

I'm loving this! I'm a believer of going mobile and doing work on-the-go, and tablets are really convenient devices to carry everywhere. Its bigger than even the biggest phablet and its smaller/lighter than a portable laptop. The plus points of using a tablet is that battery life can be pretty good and can be charged using a powerbank! As Michael mentioned, love that so much. Android at least has the flexibility to use a mouse pointer... Unlike iOS. The only problem I have with mobile OSes is that they are limited. Sometimes I would just like to open different apps side by side.. I know Android Nougat have the split screen feature already, but it doesnt support all the apps. Till that day comes, I still kinda prefer using my 8"-10" Windows tablet for "serious" work on-the-go! Haha #justmytwocents

There are some serious tradeoffs when it comes to typing fast or working on charts or data that needs large screen real estate, but for the most part, tablets like the iPad make great laptop replacements for catching up on work on the go.. Ofcourse I have my tablet and my laptop synced up using onedrive (that's where all my important files are kept) so when I go to the office, I carry just my iPad. I have my desktop in the office and my laptop at home , but the iPad is my on the go computer.

Or anything not proprietary like apple does. Ipads wont even let you put music on without itunes. I hate that part so much.

The iPad mini and the smaller Microsoft tablets in the 7 to 9 inch category feel more comfortable with smartphone technology.

Awesome video as always, I always wondered about getting a tablet to do my laptop work, and for college that mostly go for writing this could be a solution.

My solution for school work has actually been a Targus folding keyboard. It has a hard shell case that folds out and lets you sit a device into it. I routinely use it with my Note Edge. With phones like that, who needs a tablet, right? Only real complaint is the key travel, and the folding element that causes some keys to be wider than others (B and Y come to mind).
