Man thank you so much I used to layer my footage and blur the background one but keep the front one same, the filter you showed had a very nice effects. Thank you man pls keep up❤️
Hey Jason great video, I want to make a short for Facebook. Is there a way to import a video from a different project to another project to make a short instead of having to start all over to make the short. Cant I just copy the Timeline from one project and paste it to another? Thanks
Thanks very much. Why did it take me so long to realise that the easiest way to do a RU-vid Short is just to turn a dSLR to portrait aspect! And so much easier to just create a new Timeline rather than starting from scratch with a new Project Library > Project Settings. Other than that, if it is an existing 1080p landscape aspect clip, rather than use a background I use Transform > Zoom etc to fill the screen and I use Clip Attributes > Super Scale 2X to get really nice 4K. Great tutorial as always.
@jason.. I don’t know if you purposefully didn’t mention the option while creating a new timeline under Mismatched Resolution one can set it to “scale entire image with crop” .. this’ll automatically resize the image to fit the entire screen without the black bars 🤷🏽♂️… Thanks for all the tutorials.. ✌🏽
Thanks man! That's another great way to do it too. Always lots of ways to do things in Resolve. It's nice to have options. 😜 Thanks for checking out the video!
I DaVinci Resolve 17 crash course is essentially the exact same thing, you’re just editing in a different ratio for your timeline as shown in this video. I am going to be working on a DaVinci Resolve 18 crash course soon though.
@@JasonYadlovski hlo I'm from India and I never yes resolve 17 before ever that's why I want help from you please help me I want be a perfect youtube video and tiktok video editor please suggest me a video which full fill my needs and enough for Mee please reply 🫂
Very helpful -- what about the upload? I tried uploading a few on desktop and tagging with #shorts but not sure they are really getting the same boost as native ones uploaded on mobile
What I do is, to bring the 16:9 to 1:1 and put it in the top half of the screen. Then use blank in fill with different top and bottom cropping, as well as no side crop. Blur the background and use the white color above it a little, will give it a nice milk glassy look. TikTok will put the chat and likes above the bottom half of the screen anyway.
This video is very useful, but how to you set a thumbnail to the video? Because when you upload to YT from is just picks a random frame from the video regardless if i set poster frame in Davinci resolve.
I recommend using the Settings I show in this video, Best DaVinci Resolve 17 Export (Render) Settings for RU-vid! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AbXeFcabJpw.html Just make sure to check the option for vertical video, it’s right below the resolution box
Absolutely brilliant, I knew I could trust someone with a hairstyle similar to mine Question, regarding the upload what does make it a short? The hashtag in the title or YT automatically recognizes it as short?
Thanks! What makes it a short is the fact that it's less than 1 minute in length and that it's vertical video. I think you need to include '#shorts' in the title or description, but you might not need to do that any longer.
@@JasonYadlovski thank you for the answer! Yes, correct. It appears to not be necessary anymore as it automatically detect the properties and sets it in shorts. The hashtag may help it being picked up by the algoritm but it's just like tags
Thanks! For me, I Work on Macs and I use an iPhone so I would just airdrop it. 😜 but you could use something like Google Drive or dropbox or email it if it’s small enough.
As always...GREAT info Jason. Quick and Simple. I will give it a go. I am new to creating shorts so let's see how it goes. Wish me luck. Cheers !!😎😎😎😎😎
Here's my question: Once you've created the video via DaVinci, how do you actually upload it to RU-vid AS a Short? Because when you upload videos to RU-vid via your PC the "Create Short" option isn't available to you. I've tried #shorts in the title but that doesn't actually put the video into the public Shorts pool in RU-vid.
If you add #shorts to the title and in the description, it will add it as a short. The video also needs to be in a portrait orientation. It's always worked that way for me.
First you’d have to cut it down to include only the most important parts. Then you can change the timeline to a vertical format and edit the way you’d like to. 😁👍
love your Tuesday quick tips, awesome man ! ;-) One video I would love to see would be on fusion (nightmare). I have completed some 3d mapping on my drone using Agisoft Metashape on a monastery and it dont look too bad, for a first try ! It does load into Davinci via the FBX format what ever that is ! lol All good, but when I try to rotate it in 3d , it becomes a nightmare ! Seen a few videos that cover this but no success so far! Them nodes things are not fun ! lol Maybe a video for the future for you to consider! I could send you the footage (cheeky) but it a large file ! Keep them coming .....
Jay - once again, truly appreciative of your great content. Went from thinking I just wanted to confirm how to make a Short / adjust the aspect ratio to learning something I had no idea about (the Blank Fill feature) in Resolve. I have also made a ton of use of a pointer you gave me in the past on using an Adjustment Clip - something I was completely lost without. So thanks a ton for continuing to help my video production quality grow - you rock, sir! (and love the plug for Milwaukee power tools - I am a Ryobi man myself - the little brother of Milwaukee - haha!). - DIYNate
Hey! Glad I could make you aware of some new things! That happens to me often in Resolve, like wow, I didn't know you could do that!. 😜 Ryobi has great stuff too! Guess I got Milwaukee cause it's red....like my canons, haha! But really I just thought they were great tools based on my research. 😁
Once you export the video, make sure you export it in the vertical format, upload it to RU-vid, and include #shorts in the title and description. Then you’ll be good to go.
@@JasonYadlovski thank you it was the #shorts bit I was missing I watched a few videos but I wasn’t seeing anyone mentioning putting in the hashtag then I got it working but it still was appearing I discovered that my video was created in Davinci resolve and the video was under 6pm seconds Here was the problem which was my fault I didn’t notice in the editing video (my screen was too small to notice) that my video was clocking in 1:01 I discover this by looking on RU-vid despite it showing on my cellphone as a short when viewing it wasn’t catagorized as a short So I checked in On Davinci resolve and nOticed I’d trimmed my video to the correct length but widening the viewing screen I’d left some audio running past the video I usually don’t make that mistake so that’s why I asked one here to see if I was doing it right so thanks for the reply Ingot there in the
Jaison...thank you soooooo much for this video tutorial..i was struggling to convert my 1080X1920 video to shorts and for insta. This video helps me with new idea.
@@JasonYadlovski the are 6-10 seconds long so far. 1080x1920 HD. cant seem to make it not HD and not sure if thats whats causing the issue. if i go to custom and just do 1080x1920 it automatically makes it HD. Im decent at using davinci but just starting to make shorts and want to do it a specific way.
Man, I wish I had found this video before making something that was supposed to be a short and afterwards set the resolution to 1080 x 1920 and wondered why it was just a tiny video with giant black borders, well, I know now. Thanks for the great explanation!
Really helpful video! I have a question about yt shorts - I found online that maximum dimensions for a short is 1080by1080 so I have been uploading 608by1080. Noticed that quality is slightly down so as per your video is it fine to upload at 1080by1920? Hope this makes sense! Thanks
Thanks for your videos man, you're my go to when learning new things in resolve. Question: I'm trying to create a 4k youtube short in davinci resolve. Would I still edit the timeline to 1080x1920? or 2160x3840?
Awesome!! Thank you. Finally able to create a vertical short correctly. Watched another video from another RU-vidr tut that was wonky. You are becoming my go to instructor for Davinci Resolve!
I did not realize there was a "blanking fill" feature! I've been duplicating my background images/videos & blurring them this whole time😂 Great video, really appreciate the tips! 👍
stop reading my mind, lol, was thinking about continuing doing short flips for tiktoks... if I can still remember the password, lol. on a different topic, you still offering to look at people's videos and give feedback? almost done my first one after endlessly watching your crash course video, just got audio to in. BTW Milwaukee's are great tools too ;)
@@JasonYadlovski thanks, was going to email it to you lol is there a way to produce a template scene that I can easily just drop into future videos. was working on the ending where credits etc. go and was thinking there must be an easier way for future to help speed things up.
