The first one will probably take ages to work out. The second will probably take a couple of minutes as you will have got the hang of it by then. All the best.
Great vid, recently got a 12cm billy and wanted to makes some clips, I’d seen Paul’s vid which was great but I was really struggling without a clip to base my measurements on, so your measurements helped, though I only measured 33 up the sides not 38, seems to work well for the 12cm. Also I didn’t have a proper bench vice to use, just one of those cheapo craft vices, but it held the rod well and I just tapped the bends flush using a hammer
Hi WarScribe. Great improvisation. You were right to go 33 for the12cm Billy to get a tighter fit. The larger size will fit but not close tight on the lid. I found that Using a vice of some kind gives a more accurate and tidy end result rather than pliers alone. I’m really glad that the video went some way to helping you.
Just watching your video as need to make some of these clips. Your clip looks well made, however you are putting it on the wrong side of the Billy can handle. The small bit you bent at the end of the clips should engage and hold on the lid when the bail handle is in the upright position. Good job on making the clips though
Clips are fitted incorrect, they should be around the inside of handle, otherwise what's the point of shaping clips to handle shape doh, please look again
Hi Robert thank you for your observation. The clips can be attached either way around as the whole point is to immobilise the bail handle so that the billy can be poured safely. It’s a simple task to unclip them and reattach the other way around. All the best.
Hi John. Sorry. It’s not something I do. However, thank you for asking. Also thank you for giving me an idea. If I ever get to a thousand subscribers I may make some as a give away along with some other really useful items.
Hi potomat2. I do not make these to sell. But thanks for asking. There is clearly a demand for these as other people have asked me the same question. If you have access to a vice and can buy some suitable steel rod they are easy enough to make.
Hi Scott, I used 2mm Stainless Steel Rods. They are used in model aeroplanes. You may be able to get away with 1.5mm I have not tried it with that but they would be easier to bend and may just about be strong enough . If you are making for the smallest size billy can then you will need to make them a little shorter. If you are able to refine the building process or measurements then feel free to share. Thanks for your support.
