I have recently done this myself. I am an experienced painter and know how to plaster wallboards so I felt somewhat confident I could do this after seeing it being done here. Don't try this at home. Just kidding. See how they have to trowel on the compound avoiding the fibres. The thinnest fibres I used were 0.7mm and the thickest were 2.0mm. I snapped around 10 of the thinnest fibres either with my trowel or during the sanding process and even a 2.0mm fibre with the long nap roller. What would normally take 30 minutes of troweling the butt joints took hours because of the protruding fibres. Then the sanding is slow and tedious. For those of you wondering what a job like this would cost I can only say it would be expensive because of the time alone to do it. Edit.. I just want to add that I could have cut a lot of time if I just drilled random holes and used only one light source but because I am an amateur astronomer I could not resist a realistic star ceiling with about 70 constellations. I had to label each star either red or white according to the stars spectral colour and then these 2 sets of fibres had to be carefully organised. the result is 2 colour zones.
A drill bit and a silicone plug that matches the color of the cieling with a hole through it that matches the diameter of the fiber. Drill the hole (from "below") thread the fiber through from above, into the plug, then push the plug into the hole, hiding the hole and securing the fiber.
This was awesome. I'm just saying, it could have been even more awesome if the smaller stars at least were color shifting. I mean, you can't have a party with just one color of light.
that's pretty awesome... would have been even better if they had multiple controllers for groups of stands so they would twinkle individually instead of just flashing on and off...
You prove to me that it is possible to plaster over joins and the fibre at the same time then spend the extra time carefully sanding and then the painting then finally trimming the the fibres. Something I am thinking of doing.
Just did their way of doing this in my bedroom and it was very time consuming and took all the patience out of me. 400 fibers for 2 colour zones. Result is great though and worth it.
I definitely appreciate that and once I get to the point I'm about to start I will definitely get in touch and ask some questions lol. I'm new to doing things like this on my own instead of just paying so I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions lol. Thanks again

I'm doing this right now for my theater room minus the tear drops. my questions how did the paint did not block the fiber strands? i'll be painting my ceiling black. thanks
Janer Sulce no, unfortunately due to covid the city is not doing any in home inspection. I have drywall ready to go up but the inspector need to green light the electrical part first. Don’t know how much longer before they restart so kinda stuck here
@@searchneverend I did some more digging it turns out you can put a cloth on top of the dry wall (that's how theatars do it) Anyway I just got my projector as soon as i get the optic cable strands i will be making mine so if i don't forget i'll come back here and tell you
Easy. When you poke the fibers though the drywall, ceiling tile, etc extend them about a quarter inch then do your painting. When you go back afterwards and clip off that little bit flush to the ceiling you will have a clean end the light comes through.
Really beautiful your lighting decoration,, I am also working with this fiber optic cable,,, Please Can you give me some idea,,, Where can i buy like this end fixture tail caps for fiber optic light ciling star lamp,,,

Please, what is the name of the pieces that look like stars in the middle, they look beautiful, can you provide me with their names so that I can order them from the store
it appears that the ceiling is not painted black. How would it look like if painted black..wouldn't it glow same at day time and at night when other lights are on
I can tell you from an experienced painters point of view and the fact that I did this project in my own room. The surface finish will be less then perfect at the butt joints simply because of the fact that it is not possible to do a perfect plaster job when there are fibers sticking out of the surface. Dark colours show any imperfection in the surface better then light colour so for me white for the ceiling was the only choice. Factor in how much direct sunlight will there be? When it is dark outside the ceiling is dark even though it has been painted white. In conclusion I would recommend you choose a colour that fits with the design of the room.

KńôWLEDğĒ WøřLĐ Fiber optic line (unbelievably cheap...probably $20USD for a large area..found by the thousands of sellers all over eBay, Wish,AliExpress...etc.) Likewise, a light source...found same places. It's also easy to DIY a light source but for something like this where the source will be enclosed in your ceiling, def go eith something with zero worries. The most significant issue with doing this in your own space ....is labor. Man hours (or woman..lol). If u have your heart set. Gather your few items needed, a ladder and some knee pads. Take a few days off and knock it out fast .. lol. SUPER easy project, almost as cheap. Just repetitive w/moderate manual labor.
Your way waste too much time. 1-Tape the gap between 2 panels.(leave about 2 cm at the both sides of the tape) 2-Finish the panel cover before install fiber cable.(even cover over the tape) 3-After panels surface finish, take the tape away,so you can release the panels down to install fiber cable. 4-Re install panels up,and just refill cover at the tape position. I just love your job and send you my ideas.
