What I NOTICED. EVERY COW IS CLEAN. HEALTHY LOOKING. NO 💩 ON THEIR TAIL ENDS. NO FLIES ANY WHERE ON THEM. EVERY OTHER VLOG I WATCH. I NEVER SEE THAT. THEY LOVE THEIR COWS. PUT FLY SPRAY ON THEM.WASH THEIR BODIES. ROTATE THEIR PASTURES. MOST OF THEM. TALK OF YOU (IN A GREAT WAY). THANK YOU FOR SETTING THE PROPER AND BEST WAYS. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL WIFE. I AM PRAYING FOR YOU IN JESUS'S NAME. I PRAY FOR EACH VLOG I WATCH. SHALOM. CHOW. THANK YOU BEN.

Let me make it unlear for You again by telling horns are recessive. :)

@@foseninfo8954 My interpretation of what you are trying to convey. Way way back in elementary school we were taught that you cross a hen of one breed. With the rooster of another. There by creating an F1. F1 has the genetic makeup of both parents. Now you cross that with either of the same breed of the parents. That offspring will express that breed more so then the F1. However he makes it clear that the cattle in question. Those with horns are not line bred. But in fact 3/4 South Poll and another breed. I am not looking for a debate or your right and I am wrong. That is my understanding of what Mr.Judy said.
@foseninfo8954
@foseninfo8954 4 года назад
@@davidsawyer1599 Yes, and You may remember Mendels laws as well. So a straightforward recessive gene (like horned) should not express (meaning no horns) in the F1 already because it is combined with a dominant (no horns/polled) gene. I am not looking for a debate with You either but just wondering how a 3/4 South Poll can have horns. :)

Wow, well Greg...the last couple of minutes of this video looks exactly like about 60% of my land. The dang serecia has been my mortal enemy for a decade! When I moved fence for my cows this morning, there was a section where I'd mowed for new fence a while back. It was all solid new growth serecia...the cattle hit that stuff like it was the most delicious thing they'd seen in a year, lol. I stood there astonished at how they were hitting it...taught me something right there. I have several acres I clipped after the cattle passed through and it looks fantastic now, I can already see the magic happening. Thanks again for all the help!

Hi Greg, did you defer any paddocks in the spring for summer grazing? As in keeping as much of the farm in the vegetative state and letting some go as Ian Mitchell innis teaches?

If I was a beef cow I would want to live on your farm. As a heifer, of course. What age do you slaughter older cows? If they keep up great calving do you just keep them around until they fall over?

Been using Alamo switchgrass for years. If folks aren't using natives along legumes for summer grazing they're not using the full potential of our landscape and flora. But I like the sericea for its protein content and its deworming value.

Does Greg still keep Mashona bulls? Jaime Elizondo mentioned that he and Greg bought the best of the North Amerincan Mashona herd, so I wonder whether some of Greg's crosses are South Poll x Mashona.

Hey Greg, From a pasture management perspective, what makes you decide to clip a paddock? How much standing hay makes it worth it's while? I noticed you clipped less this year than others, what thought process do you go through to make this decision? What I the earliest plant phase that you top, as in would you top from early boot or only mature, sinessed pasture. Do you ever top pastures shorter in different conditions or for any reason? Sorry about all the questions, I don't think I've seen you cover these in detail before. Your clipping video the other day was mainly about brush management. Thanks for your very informative videos once again, Chris

Greg probably can respond. But I’m sure the majority of those questions can be answered by just going back a few months and watching his videos while taking notes and listening for those answers. Just like taking a test where all the answers are in the book you just have to work for it a little.

I'd hoped it would be about pasture management with clipping/topping but none of those questions or topics were covered, hence my asking the question. He more so covered brush control, lease property maintenance and his JD tractor. Thabks for your help

@@moavic5087Thanks for your comment, I've been watching Greg's videos reasonably consistently for over 2 years now and yes he has touched on parts of these topics but I thought it might be a good focus for a video as maintaining forage quality is pretty essential for animal and farm performance. We're also heading into spring here in NZ so it'd be great to refresh heading into th new season. Greg is great at answering questions and I've had some feedback on this in the past so thought I'd ask for more depth and focus around the practice. Happy grazing : )
@gregjudyregenerativerancher
@gregjudyregenerativerancher 4 года назад
Chris, sometimes we clip pastures if we don't get a good graze or trample on a particular paddock. If pasture swards get to mature or woody, livestock performance will go down. Cattle do well on mature not overly mature plants.
