HOW TO MANAGE LARGE BRIDAL PARTIES: Tips to work more quick & efficiently

Large bridal parties have become more common since group gathering restrictions have minimized over the last year and it's time to get back into it! I forgot to mention it in this video, but if you ever have a situation where timing is not possible for the amount of people, you can always contact another makeup artist to help you! I know that larger bridal parties are SUPER overwhelming and no matter how many notes you take from this video, please know that a lot of this will come down to experience and practice! As you get more into larger parties, you'll slowly start getting a feel for what works and what doesn't work for you personally as an artist. There isn't a right or wrong way to do things sometimes so do what works best for you :)

I just started getting into larger bridal parties this past year! I think I've done 10 now and I actually LOVE them so much! At first, I was such a nervous wreck that my hands would actually shake. Now, I just go into it knowing that I'm doing what I love and to fake it to make it 😄 I just finally got business cards and I started giving out my bridal touch up kits thanks to u! My clients appreciated them so much!!!

That’s amazing Jessica! I’m so happy to hear that you’re having a great time with working larger parties. It can definitely be overwhelming at first, but eventually it becomes habitual :) I just have my business page and normal FB page. You can feel free to follow Julie Marie Artistry on FB, but I don’t except friend requests from ppl I don’t know in person for my personal page for privacy reasons.

I do not play about my itinerary for bridal parties!!! I do the same you do and I also ask bride to have all her parties preference for lip color/finish so I can have that ready in there Touchup bags!! Love love love all your tips!!! And order and organization is key!! I also condense my kit down specifically to what bridal party is needing only!

these were great tips!! thank you for sharing! i personally love applying lipsticks at the end of all applications, clients love it because they appreciate that you're considering the fact that the lipstick will rub off by the time you leave.

I'm so glad you got some great tips! Yes, applying lipsticks at the end is definitely a great time saver. I just personally don't do this since I give all my clients touch up kits, but if you don't.. it's a really smart thing to do :)

Make sure you have EXTENTION CORDS! sometimes you’re in an old home and there’s very little places to plug in and your outlet could be on the other side of the room. Also I have a mini folding table that always stays in my vehicle bc one time I had to set up on a CHAIR bc the hair stylists took up every flat surface.

Yes I always carry an extension cord with me. Having a table is definitely a great idea too! I’ve had hairstylists as well that take up the whole space too … it’s annoying lol

Makeup is a process, you are so right, Julie! Your tips are so valuable that I cannot get enough of them. The pictures inspirations are denied by other MUAs, but I think that they are really important so the person you are doing the makeup for knows how her faces would look like after the glam session :) Thank you for sharing your own knowledge based on years of experience :)

I love this video. My second wedding I had 7 makeup applications including the bride. I showed up on time to the venue, but the bride showed up late, plus the entire bridal party were about 1 hour to an hour and 20 mins late. It went smoothly after the first few applications, but then the bride was pretty much telling me that I had to be done with everyone by a certain time (the time I had in my timeline/itinerary), but because everyone showed up late, that was impossible. But I learned in that moment to prioritize how I what takes me longer (eyes), and complete do a more simple application before moving on with the rest of the face. Eyes first is a must for me now, and also a simple look that you can intensify later is also something I learned. This video is a 10/10. Thank you Julie.

Wow that’s insane! An hour late?? Did you end up getting everyone done in time? I do specifically have a clause in my contract that says I’m not responsible for getting all the apps done in time of the bridal party is late for this reason lol sometimes weddings are super hectic!

@@julieruby yes I got everyone done about 30 mins after the original completion time. She had to rearrange the order the photographer took pictures. But all in all it turned out so good.

Great advice!! I always wait for the lips last but have noticed I forget photos for the gram. Also I lay that mirror down and say I prefer you don’t look because makeup looks awful at certain stages. They listen most the time.

Yes that’s one downside of doing lips last for photos but it definitely does save quite a bit of time! The mirrors are definitely a big issue sometimes. Normally my clients don’t even pay attention to it if I don’t bring it up till the end.

OH MY GOSH THE MIRROR THING!! My first client that I booked through the booking app I use had me set up next to a mirror and I didn't notice and it was so annoying. She constantly would look at herself and the trial ended up taking almost 5 hours! I was so annoyed. I definitely learned from that. I will definitely be looking around next time I set up anywhere.

HAha it’s literally the worst! During trials I will show them a mirror but I don’t put them in front of one. It’s a hand held I carry around so I have control over it. But wedding days … I’m not messing around with that lol

I have included in my contract what each look includes or don’t include, for large bridal parties I do not do any cut creases , glitters , jewels, or wing liner unless it’s tiny , I also charge $15 for my touch up kits the bride gets hers for free and it includes a few extra items , I just feel like I’m scrambling to give them their lip color lol

Such good tips! Do you have a preference for when you do the brides makeup? Like i would think last would be best but what if that means you might run out of time and the bride if anyone should get the most. 🤔

The only brides I’ve done so far have been solo H&MU, but I I’ve assisted so much with makeup for other weddings. A bridal HMUA of 20+ years demoed for me and literally did a full look in less than 30 minutes!! WTH!! My biggest takeaway was that I give too many options and have people constantly checking in a mirror. A large part of it definitely is needing to trust yourself as the professional and make those judgement calls. I’ve been shaving so much time off now since I’ve stopped having my clients check even two minutes if they like something. Lol
