Thanks 👍 for this. I coach Rec in the US with no formal training. I'm guilty, of switching players position during games, as they ask, or someone gets too tired to continue. I knew it hasn't helpful for the kids, but I wasn't sure what else to do. This really helped me to understand how to overcome this issue. I'll for sure start this way next season.

I am also in the US with no formal training. My issue is my season is way to short to rotate groups by weeks I would probably only get through one rotation and then it would be over.

Cold-hearted agree that young players need to learn all different positions and develop skills. My son in U8 was stuck at defense in every match just because he was good at defending. These kids are still learning and need to absorb skill sets for different positions.

Great video! At a training session, would you be running 3 different drills at once for the 3 different groups or would you be running drills that involve defender, midfield and attacking groups all at once ?

Either can be fine! Some coaches running teams on their own would need to incorporate thing into one practice, but if you have the coaches available then separate practices can work great too!

in 7v7 where you play a 2-3-1 formation there really isn't a big enough number of players to have a pure attack group. In this situation, would you only have 2 groups? Attackers and Defenders? Splitting the midfield players up?
@CatalanSoccer

You certainly could do that!

Hallo, thx for this great and helpful video. I have questions about how to realise this in Training sessions. Split the team into 3 groups means we have 3 coachs for one team. I am in Italy and there most teams have only one coach exspecialy when the group is young. Only after an age of 13-15 the team get an assistend coach an there probably is a little bit late and you miss an other thirth coach. This are the problems in my country an probably in other countries too but for sure tze problems of many other coachs like me. I will try to solve them as best is possible but if you have any ideas to help me I will be happy. I will know more of this metodology. Probably you can make an other video in wich you can explain how to realise it with some ideas of exercises. Thank you.

Hi Daniel, thank you for the feedback! When we say to split your teams into three groups, we only mean figuratively what are also training together . You don’t have to have them training separately as three groups, but instead you would put your focus on one particular group for that week of training. If you were to split your team into attackers and defenders, then they can both be coached together as the attackers play against the defenders all within one practice. Hope that helps and thank you for your support!

Love the video. Great principle. How would you implement this in a young 5 a-side team playing a 1-2-1 diamond?
@CatalanSoccer
@CatalanSoccer Год назад
With 5 a side - it can be a simple positional rotation rather than a unit rotations. Each player holds a defender, midfield or attack position for 2/3 weeks then rotate. Keeper can be included in that rotation too!

@@CatalanSoccer thanks. I have 7 or 8 players so would you keep the subs in the same rotation? Just thinking that would mean some players share game time and some don’t? I know it’s not an exact science but really value your opinion, as your content seems so relevant to my coaching. 👍🏻
