With the HOT temperatures and DRY conditions mowing your lawn and slinging fert is not the optimal practice for your lawn if you are not irrigating regularly. Check out my latest video ( • How to Manage Your Law... ) for additional information on managing through this heat!

I'm a newbie to lawn care and I sprayed organic weed killer the day before the heat wave and that section is almost dead. lesson learned.

Summer time is not the time for spraying weeds, that is a spring and fall activity during cooler temperatures. We all make mistakes and learn...now you know.

So is the lateral spread with the seeds that you use from GCI working, wound you say?
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes Месяц назад
Yes it is working as I have the nice lawn that I was aiming for. My position on the lateral spreading is not so much spreading but more tillering/leave blades that make for a more dense lawn and takes up more space giving the appearance that it's spreading. If I want true spreading I add KBG to my seed blend, which is what I do when seeding.

Would you recommend sea kelp if you have brown dry spots on the lawn?
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes 2 месяца назад
Not revive the brown spots. If your lawn has brown spots this time of year typically it needs water, fungicide, insecticide, or a combination of those. Sea kelp can be beneficial to grass that is actively growing to take it into the plant and utilize it. ru-vid.comcKB1p9rcb3Y?feature=share

Are you watering 2 times a week? Or more frequent due to the heat?
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes 2 месяца назад
Yes I am. I may have to add an additional cycle tomorrow due to some hot spots that I noticed today.

Hey brother love your vids. Im dethatching tomorrow and i cut 3.5 for my tall fescue here in Md. Could you give me some height advice. It's my first time and i know i should cut lower than normal before dethatching. The dethatching machine has height settings 1,2,3 and 4 with 4 being lowest. Thanks my brother.
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes 2 месяца назад
My advice is NOT to dethatch tomorrow. The summer is not the time to be putting that type of stress on a cool season lawn. Temperatures are too hot and we are too dry, most lawns are struggling to stay alive and somewhat green right now. The early spring and fall is the time to do that type of repair/maintenance work.

@ElevatedLawnscapes what can i do about compact bald soil rings and brown patches? Just a few though. I was dethatching because of dead grass and have water supply (sprinklers) but if you still advice to not dethatch tomorrow then I'll heed to your advice on that.

@bmoreinvestor5900 If you have bare areas that will need to be fixed in the fall when temperatures cool down with overseeding. The best you can do for those bare areas right now is keep the existing grass healthy and allow it to fill in until the fall. For brown patches, it sounds like you have a lawn fungus that needs to be addressed, assuming you are getting proper coverage and water with your irrigation system. Check out @polofieldslawnservice channel he has several videos on fungus identification and how to address it.

Do you ever apply PGR to it
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes 2 месяца назад
Yes, I used a PGR through the spring when it was at peak growth rate. I plan to use it again in the fall when the growth rate picks back up again.

How on earth can you say you will only be mowing twice a week in this intense heat with these dry conditions. There should be absolutely no reason to mow twice in one week during the heart of summer
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes 2 месяца назад
If the lawn is not managed properly and not growing (going dormant)as stated in the video there is no need to cut the lawn. If the lawn is properly watered and healthy it will continue to grow and will still need to be cut frequently. It also depends on your HOC of cut. This area being managed at a HOC of 1.25" in a 6 day period during our latest heat wave grew over .75". That meant during my last mow I cut off over half the leaf blade to get back down to the 1.25" HOC which is unhealthy to do to the plant repeatedly. There are a number of factors to managing turfgrass, I typically refrain from saying you should never/"no reason" to do a certain activity in the lawn. Thanks for watching
@stephenercolino5253
@stephenercolino5253 2 месяца назад
@@ElevatedLawnscapes even with watering the height of cut in the summer for cool season turf grass should be at least four inches and no lower to eliminate stress on the turf and no more than once a week. For your controlled little area of lawn that you water constantly you may be able to do what you are doing but for a larger lawn that does not have irrigation and is subject to the intense heat and dry conditions, less mowing at a higher height is the way to go
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes 2 месяца назад
@stephenercolino5253 You are continuing to make my point that there are various factors that play into the management practices of a lawn. As I stated, if the lawn is watered and managed properly it will need to be mowed and if not irritated reduce the mowing frequency or not at all. Does having a higher HOC make it less stressful and easier to manage a cool season lawn...OF COURSE, I agree. But does it have to be cut like a hay field to survive and thrive...no. With the right management practices, seed cultivars, and water it can be done and has been proven even by the growers of the seed. The thought that all cool season grass has to be cut at 4" or higher to survive the summer is no longer true with the new and improved cool season grass seed cultivars. With the older stuff having a higher HOC was almost the only to get it to survive. Having a higher HOC in the summer also comes with its challenges especially with disease pressure. So again, there are multiple factors that go into the management of a lawn and its tough to make never/"no way" statements if the grass is managed properly for those conditions/factors. Thanks for the discussion 👍🏾.
