It seems to have worked in this case, but you should jump 30 and 87 if you are jumping a relay. 30 is load supply voltage (from battery) and 87 is output (to lights). 85 and 86 are the control pins, which use small wires and are not designed for high current load. The DRL didn't overload the small control wire but jumping 86 to 87 in other locations could cause a problem.
Thank you so much for the video! My DRL didn't work, and i've no idea why. Just connect 86+87 contacts and it works! So, it helped me to understand where I've to check for the connection troubles. Thanks man! 🙏
Still working on this subject myself. Most of everyone is saying the ambient light sensor is the issue if no power to the socket. So that's where I'm at now.
Update. It didn't work but its because the plugs are all jacked up from dry rot. One of them came apart when I took the bulb out and the other was wet on the inside (03 Sierra). I'm thinking about replacing the plugs and using the LEDs like you did. Thanks again for the video. This is what RU-vid does best!!
It's not too dark... TheDRL doesn't come on if the vehicle is in Park or if the park brake is applied. It's in the owner's manual and I tested that theory by simply getting someone to stand in front of the truck and watch for them as I held the brake and put it in gear... They came on... And turned off as soon as I put it back in park
Yes, this worked for us as well. We even tested ours at night after a new socket and bulb install; I shined a bright flashlight on the DRL sensor on the dash.
Your video was very helpful it saved me a lot of time from troubleshooting. My lights were not coming on and I thought there was something wrong. When I jumpered the relay it came on which means my DRL were working. Thank you.
This video gave me the info to track down the problem and it helped me understand the relays and fuses with the jumper from 87 to 86, the ones on the left side of the DRL relay. Good job!!
Jjumper is fine for checking on the fly or while installing...turn lights to auto... After reinstalling DRL relay, turn ignition on on, turn off ignition DRLs come on until you open and close the door, then they go off. key fob hit unlock, they turn on...
If you are by yourself, the simplest and safest way is to park in front of a store with windows and keep the truck in drive and look at the reflection. But...if you do not want to do that and you are by yourself here is how I did it at home. First, you cannot check them with the vehicle in park or if you have the parking brake on, they will not come on. Also, if you are in the shade your DRls will not come on. I blocked both front wheels with jack stands turned on their side to keep the truck from going forward when in drive. I had my truck inside a carport with poor lighting so I put a flashlight on the dash sensor (middle of the dash) and put the truck in drive with it idling. (note, the dash sensor has a delay so it might not sense the flashlight right away but give it a few seconds and you will hear a click) Now you can walk around and see if your lights are working or not.
Perfect for my 2006 Silverado! Wanted to test the plug with my multimeter since it was a new bulb but how to do that when the damn things shut off. It's like trying to watch the fridge light turn on/off.
Good information My truck in park or emergency break on will not Work lights only with engine running in Drive ! 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ 2000 2500 HD THANK YOU
DMD LTZ already posted this but i just confirmed it, DRLs will come on in any gear but park, so here's what to do start the vehicle, make sure its on level ground, chock the tires, set the emergency brake, and put it in neutral and have someone else check the lights if you can
The DRL's on GM trucks come on when in any gear except "Park" ( DRN321) you can also get The DRL & Reverse bulbs to pop on if the truck is off by using unlock on your key fob if you still have one. I don't know why all these other crazy methods are being used🤦🏾♂️ I mean I get it if your trying for the DRL's & turn signals to either always be on or operate together. But for purposes of replacing a bulb and making sure polarity is correct, truck in any gear (Level ground if you gotta use Neutral and like mine the stupid E-brake isn't working correctly) or unlock on key fob....
Not that i can find. i was needing the circuit energized so i could get led lights polarity right. only other way is parking brake off and truck in drive with enough ambient light so the headlights dont come on the DRLs come on during "daylight" only. but you need 2 people to do that option.
@@BoweryPenguin8 what if drl never comes on but auto headlights works fine ( turn on at night automatically ) which indicates a good ambient sensor. Any ideas ?
@@BoweryPenguin8 I've been searching for this solution for a while. I definitely gotta try this. I would love to have the extra light at night when I drive 😁
Some reason its pretty hard to figure out the DRL circuit. I also got brand new headlight and running light housings. Waiting to be dark to test the DRL lights. (To see if the relay is bad, i swapped the DRL and the A/C relay)
This may sound dumb but y'all sockets aren't rusty or weathered are they? My dad had this issue a few days ago. I simplely went to a junk yard and found some pig tails(light bulb sockets) + a new emblem for him on his 2000 Silverado for about 16$. Autozone quoted me 90$ + tax for just the light sockets.
I'm here fo that exact reason mine were rusted on both side went to autozone (which I never do) and bought 2 for $20 a piece and I'm just trying to figure out how to turn them on to see if they work or they are faulty
@@BIGHEN_ what part exactly? Like the light sockets? If so i'd suggest cutting and splicing the wires together. Start by lining then side by side both facing the same way and connect the wires the same way so it nothing else gets damaged. Bc I do believe there's 3 wires instead of just two.
@@JP-Swag yeah the light sockets for the DRL, but I already installed the new ones...I just want to know how to turn them on to see them work. I've seen where some people say put the truck in drive and turn yor low beams on or something and they would work
@@BIGHEN_ yea if it's the low beams and not the day time running lights that's what you do. There's the light switch panel box next to to dash brightness spin wheel thing. Lmk if it all works out for you
Can anyone explain to me the headlight switch on a 2001 Silverado. Since I’ve got it I keep it on the left option with the circle whatever that is maybe auto headlights? What are the two lights facing each other at the 10:00 position do? Lastly what is the 12:00 position with the single bulb. I found that if I double click the dome override turns off the lights. Please help nothing online explains it
9:00 position - uses auto headlights, 10:00 position turns on your parking lights, 12:00 position turns on all your lights (headlights, parking lights). Dome Over-ride will make it so the interior lights dont come on when you open the door.
