A dry baby wipe works as well. let it dry, slowly pull it apart, hold over the piece and spray. Gives you the lining you see in natural marble.

One thing you could also try is using baby wipes. It's a different technique to this one, but gives a good marble effect. Though its less marbling and more stone floor marble.

I saw another method that worked very well that just used stretched out cotton (like the fake cobwebs you use for Halloween decorations) as a stencil over the black and then the color is just sprayed over it. The results were very clean and natural looking and I would think you'd get much more control since you can kind of adjust how the cotton is laid out before spraying the color.

Great tutorial. I like your detailed explanation of the steps. Your choice of kits was perfect for this type of treatment. In the lore, they are ornamental suits assigned to the Zabi ruling family. Other kits that would look good would be some of the Mortar Heads from Five Star Stories. Has Cookie ever done any of those kits? An alternate to the saran wrap method would be to use some photo-etch masking templates to have some more control over the overall look of the marbling effect. I am always in awe of the modellers who achieve the marble effect using paint brushes and oil paints. That is a level of skill way beyond me.
@frostedsnow
@frostedsnow 4 года назад
Thanks so much! I don't know the lore too well, though I do know the Zabi is "royal". Kughee and I are not really into FSS, but we have seen loads of it at studios we painted at. I agree it'd look cool! Thanks for the other suggestions too :) I see people marble by pulling out a wet wipe, but I don't really like that smokey look. I was gonna mention that method in the video too. Doh! Actually, girls do marble painting on nails w this complicated water and paint dipping method XD

Love the tutorial. Well explained step by step tutorial. It definitely gives me confidence to try it out. Also, those decals really pop out with the marble effect. I think kits with rounder edges like a zaku definitely look good with that style.
@frostedsnow
@frostedsnow 4 года назад
Which kits would you like to see with marble paint? PS. I forgot to mention that there are other ways to do marble painting, but I chose the saran wrap 'cos I like the distinctive marbling effect -- most genuine marble look to me. You can also pull a wet tissue over the part and spray over it, which is actually easier to do and gives a more spidery look. However, I wanted to challenge myself, and I just like the saran marble effect more!

Surfacer is supposed to be "colored primer" to save you a step of painting, but in Korea, all the paints are named Surfacer or Foundation, but if it's grey, it's really just primer. I also just never say primer cuz I'm used to surfacer cuz everything is labeled that.

Do you need good ventilation to do this indoors? If you are doing this during the winter, could you have an open window while doing this?
