What a great series av videos! I recently bought a sailboat with a CTEK pro25s installed in it. Watching this I got worried about galvanic currents as the pro25s is marketed for garages while CTEK have a marine specific charger called 25M. Do anyone know if the pro25s have isolated ground and neutral? Since I live in Sweden where there is no distinction between live and neutral (you can flip the AC plug) is this even applicable?

Hey Jeff: Just wanted to thank you for putting this series out. I'm an electrical engineer that's been involved with industrial automation for decades, now looking at off-grid and marine power systems. And I'm learning a ton from these videos - so thanks!

With the at least 10% of battery bank capacity for a charger rule, how does that apply for solar charging? I have a 440 amp hour bank with a 50 amp charger/inverter but most of the time I am recharging from my 400 watt solar array through a Victron MPPT 100/20 charge controller that tops out at 20 amps. Am I shortening the life of my batteries or because with the solar array the batteries don't get drawn down more than 30% do I not have a deep discharge/bulk charge problem?

Hey Jeff, great video as always you say to have and " Inverter Only Neutral Bus" do you maen its own bus bar with nothing else connected ? Thanks in advance

I was wondering about that line too. Are we talking about the AC neutral or the DC- here?
@PacificYachtSystems
@PacificYachtSystems 4 года назад
If your inverter is only powering a subset of the AC panel, then not only does the installer need to separate the AC hot but also the AC neutrals powered by the inverter.

@@PacificYachtSystems I thought this was refering to the DC side from the Batteries to Inverter /Charger so just to clarify you are talking about the AC side from the Inverter to the 230VAC Circuit breaker panel?, would this not be a direct connection form the inverter /charger to the VAC distribution Panel.? This will be a self install once i have read , and re read,the manual as per your direction " we are not born with Intelligence " again thanks for the reply

If you have mistakenly been charging an AGM battery bank (800ah) in the water with a 15 amp car charger (from shore power), how long does it take for the car charger to corrode all the metal in the boat?
@PacificYachtSystems
@PacificYachtSystems 3 года назад
Don't know, but i bet it would be gone, that's a lot of current.

Hi, I have a 2 Dual Purpose batteries from Varta 180ah each. What kind of charger do I need ?
@PacificYachtSystems
@PacificYachtSystems 4 года назад
Get a smart charger that is at least rated 40 amps output.

Just wrapped up all 3 recent battery presentations. What strikes me is that the marine world is completely not ready for the battery revolution that is probably coming. Batteries are going to cost 1/10th of what they do today in 5 years. It seems like boats need to move past 12v and to 48v but even more than that the entire electrical ecosystem is going to be impacted when you need charge speeds of 48v/250a. Installing 5x 48/50 chargers isn't realistic and would cost as much as the battery bank.

Cannot wait for more power and faster charging.
