LOL, it's funny how they don't care! They get concerned if she's gone more than about 15 to 30 minutes and the queen pheromone in the hive starts to fade.
That's funny, but real talk, the queen isn't the one giving orders. In fact, being the queen is a job that literally any larvae can fulfill, and since it's a job, they can get fired. Just so people know if they don't already know.
@@petrhermanadventures9509 I think this video was good, I was trying to balance the other comment that you weren't doing it right lol Both methods are valid for people of different skill levels and confidence, and showing a nifty gadget is always a good thing!
@@petrhermanadventures9509 do you know the lady theyre referencing? She has a weird ending outro thats always "it was another great day of saving the beeeeeezzz"
This is the 2nd RU-vid video with an expert on Bee's and especially in dealing with the Queen Bee. Thank you for doing this, I understand the Bee population has dwindled to a lower than preferred amount. Thank you again this narration will help other Bee keepers increase the population.
Or ... "Yes. Some giant kidnapped me in a torture device to put it there, but stopped when he realized how majestic I am. I, your queen, have tamed the gods. "
I can't believe that there is a race of friendly creatures who live in well-organized homes and make candy all day while their wicked counterpart live in menacing fortresses that augur only destruction.
It takes them about 10 to 15 minutes to realize she's missing. Bees operate on pheromones and the queen makes special ones that the bees spread throughout the hive.
Interestingly, queens sometimes faint during the procedure. But no, the queen does not order the bees to swarm. It's the worker bees that decide when swarming happens. When it's time, they raise new queens and the old queen leaves with half the bees to start over somewhere else.
@@petrhermanadventures9509 why don’t they sting you?? 3 days ago I was working and came across a Yellowjacket nest. I was extremely careful and slow and they all tried to swarm me. I did get stung 4 times but it was a small hive. Unfortunately I had to kill them because they were impossible to move. Extremely aggressive!
Phenomenal advice bro. Mainly here just to get some words down, but that’s only because I’m so happy to see people caring for and benefiting the honey bee population. Thank you.
I love how he said to practice on drones before hand then I thought, how would you get the paint off? But the better thought was just having a couple drones with the queens mark and they are just like "Ah yes the gods mistook me for the queen but I surely love the mark don't you?"
Just wanted to say that not only is your content great but you also put a lot of effort into replying to the comments which takes a lot of time on top of making the videos, and that’s very nice to see how thoughtful and kind you are. Subbed 🙂
and darn after posting this, don't even get a like or comment from him lol. I'd be so upset 😢. lol I'm jk he's got a lot of comments plus other videos comments he has to go through, so I imagine it can be easy to miss a few of em. but who knows he may comment right after I post this making me look shotty haha. ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- DISCLAIMER (this is all jokes I don't have any ill-intentions towards anyone I love his vids and like you said his effort to interact! you don't get that to much especially it actually being from creater rather than somebody running the pages)
This video is at just about 2 million views, I'm finding it hard to keep up. I missed your kind comment Amy. Thanks for subscribing, it's the best compliment you can give a RU-vid creator.
@@petrhermanadventures9509 omg thank you so much for replying, just proves my point how kind and passionate you are about your channel to read my comment among the thousand you probably have to go through. Thanks again and keep up the good work :)
Thank you for the comment. There is an international standard for the colors each year. This year is red, next year is green. Since queens only live 3 to 4 years, we don't need a lot of color. Google "queen color marking chart" if you'd like to know more.
1. Bees probably less likely to attack picking up a drone, so you're practising how to be gentle as to not scare them when picking up the queen. 2. Yes the queen is definitely more important because it will effect the whole colony So really your comment is stupid
Wish I watched this before marking mine. It was ok but I used the trap you press against the comb. Worked well but she wasn’t impressed. This way seemed much smoother
It's the end result that matters. I killed the first queen I tried to mark. I used nail polish and it ran all over the place. That was a $60 Saskatraz queen and it took me a couple more years to summon up the courage to mark anohter.
@@petrhermanadventures9509 oh no! As bad a that sounds we learn from our mistakes. You seem a pro at it now. Nice and gentle your queen seemed not stressed at all. She seemed to enjoy the brief rest
We are so advanced as a species that we built a contraption to mark bees to distinguish them from one another, in a simulated hive that we harmlessly created to farm honey. I don’t see a damn dolphin doing that.
Humans have been keeping bees for several thousand years. This has allowed bees to spread to all continents except Antarctica and become one of the most successful insect species. That and they pollinate about 80% of our fruit and veg. I see it as a mutually beneficial relationship.
Teach that to the vegans animals and plants work together you cannot take 1 out. Also crop farming kills bees so support small farms and grassfed/rotationally grazed animals.
LOl, it's funny, but sometimes also true. Most queens will wear the mark for the rest of their 3 year life span, but sometimes the workers will have that paint cleaned off in a couple of weeks.
@@taufiqaizat8664 that’s understandable, there are for real people like those out there, but you are good, love from India 🇮🇳 💜 And I approve your comment as an Indian, hehe ✅
"So weird. I was like sucked up in this tube and then the walls starting closing in and just when I thought I was going to be crushed, I was hit right in the back with a wet pole."
Not really. It takes them about 15 to 20 minutes to realize the queen is gone and then they start making a new queen by feeding a special diet to some of the larvae. A queenless hive does become a bit more cranky and more likely to sting, but that happens when they haven't had a queen for a few days.
Marking a queen allows the bee keeper to find her easier and also allows keeping track of the age of a queen. There is an international guideline for a different queen color each year. This year is red. It is of no benefit to the bees.
@@icyunvme2400 Honestly I have no idea. Worker bees die because they literally wear out from all the flying. A queen is pampered and groomed and fed royal jelly her whole life, so she gets to live 2 to 4 years. When a queen loses vitality, she gets replaced by another queen and gets kicked out of the hive, nature is tough.
