This is all very helpful, Wendy. Thank you. However, your viewers should be aware that getting songs out there is a VERY EXPENSIVE endeavor and that they will probably never make back their initial investment unless they perform live like I do or put merchandise out there and advertise it as well. If you have been following Spotify's artist series, they mention that the only indie Spotify Artists who wind up making the big dollars (10K a year, which is still not much) are those who have stores and sell their inventory. This business is not for people who don't have any money in the bank. And artists, don't spend everything you have in your savings. Keep your day jobs and put away some dollars first before you launch into this business.
I've been awful with marketing my music in the past.. hoping to change that :) thanks for all the great info/ideas. Love the transparency and vulnerability of your videos!
Thank you for making this video! I found some good pointers, especially the submithub one cause most submissions they say exactly what you said with no explanation lol.
Great video, new subscriber here. I agree with most things you've said. Just a warning about submithub chat section, if you trade links and get say 100 streams from those, which isn't much but anyway if they are the wrong type of listener it can potentially hurt your algorithm. Engagement groups are actually worse for this too. It's because those listeners all have different tastes and Spotify prefers when all your listeners like the same type/genre of music. And when those listeners put your track onto similar playlists - this can really help your release radar boost. I got almost 10k in release radar by being genre focused(I made a couple of videos about this if you want to have a look). I still haven't got on editorial playlists so I think your killing it there!
Thank you so much! Yes, all of that is true! But it can help the algorithm in some cases. I use SubmitHub to trade pre-save links (not really streams) so it works for me in that way and it’s a great way to build relationships/connections!
This is excellent content. About half of this I’m using already, thanks to you👌🏽And I’m aware about the bots. I was one of the victims earlier this year, Spotify dropped 2 of my songs. But yes, definitely some more ideas to consider. OH! I also thought of an idea for myself to gain more algorithms and possible collabs. I’ll have it going in to affect starting in May😁So keep your eyes peeled👀And thank you for being an incredible and helpful person AND artist💓💓💓
thank you so much!!! You're the best 😁. I'm sorry spotify took down your songs, but you're doing amazing at being consistent and putting out songs so often! keep going :) you're awesome

Thanks so much for that Wendy really helped me out. I'm going to try and get onto a fb add now as Instagram takes well over a day to get approved and then doesn't approve. Thanks so much you're killing it Star 🤩
Wendy do a video of your marketing plan like the pre and post plans please. I found your video about Spotify playlist and all these videos are helpful ❤️❤️❤️
Great video, thanks for the key advice !!! ... Nehemiah Flow is a newer indie artist that has a unique sound. Pls let me know of any other artists such as yourself that you recommend supporting. Thanks 👍
Thank you for all the great info ... This is Jimmy from Wretched Pinhead Puppets ... I've been doing the Social Media networking and getting around 2, 000 organic streams per day with spending a dime! My big issue is that I haven't yet been put on an Editorial Playlist ... I've been releasing every 3-6 weeks and people have been loving the music, yet I've just not been able to get over the fence to get on those Editorial PLs ... any secrets beyond a good pitch?
hmmm... if there's anything that makes you stand out, try to use that more if possible. Other than that, keep the pitch clean and simple. And keep being consistent! that's so awesome that youre releasing ever 3-6 weeks!!
@@wendylucasmusic Thank you for the great advice! Looks like you've been doing this since late 2019? Did you get on Editorial Playlist right at the beginning or did it take a year? I'm coming up on 15 months? I'm doing my best to demystify it all! :) thank you again!
I’d blast 30 tags on my post & would be filled with a bunch of spam accounts following me.. hence that was 2020 now it’s all about reels.. but I feel like it’s still the same.. tiktok not so much tbh.
A question i have is how do you make consistently good content? Do you have people that make videos for you? How do you make time to make content AND music?
Really great question cause content can be really hard to keep up with. I’m not perfect with content, but I’ll share with you what I do! I reuse content between platforms (instagram, RU-vid, tik tok). I try to make simple, do-able content (just singing along to my own music, or a day in the life, etc). I post a lot about my music - since its all related, it feels less overwhelming. I use Final Cut Pro to edit my videos and content which is quick and easy for me. Another thing that helps is I do a lot of collabs with my music, so some songs take less of my time and I can use that time on content ideas instead. Lmk if you want a video about content ideas and how I make posting schedules! Hope this helps answer your questions!
@@wendylucasmusic Wow thank you for such an insightful and detailed answer! Yes this was very helpful! I'd love to see a video of this to be quite honest :)
