Robert Greene comes on the show to talk about why humans behave the way we behave, mastering our social skills, and how using self-observation and empathy can help us improve the quality of our lives. We also discussed some topics that I've never had anyone explain in such unique lenses, including death, love, and ego.
This is a personal favorite episode with one of my favorite authors, and the 1st return guest of Growth Minds!
Enjoy x,
Sean

@gracefitzgerald2227 2 года назад
@@abhijeetaanand2334 Wow 😊I think it’s safe to say you’re the sweet one. Early 30s is still very young ( to me). Mastery is a great book about filling your soul with passion and people’s stories that worked ever so hard to commit themselves to feeling alive by immersing themselves into what their idea of a good life should be. Sorry for the run on sentence but I hope that made sense. My insecurities were more about dealing with people when I felt I lost my confidence. Seduction and LOHN really helped me look for signs whether a person was a waste of time or genuine. LOHN is really dense and not a book you can read in a few days. I have a terrible lack of focus and I had to be present while I read the brilliance that emerged from the pages. 48 Laws was my first book I read. It’s a good warm up before some of the others as the history is exciting and page turning while giving you added wisdom without realizing it.

I’m on my third of his books. Thing is though, a fake smile is a fake smile, you don’t have to give them time to prepare, you’ll just know if they’re happy to see you or not, even before you learn about facial muscles and body language, it’s in their voice, maybe they’re really talking to you. And once I learned about passive aggression, I scanned back through my life and realised a whole bunch of people were doing that, most of them don’t know they’re doing it either.

@@mummetaleb2325 being “fake” can be good or bad behavior. It can be bad if you’re being fake simply for your benefit. It can also be good cause you aren’t reacting/acting through your emotions. It all depends on the situation and the degree of how “fake” you’re being. You should be “fake” during a job interview. You should be “authentic” when you’re trying to form a true connection with someone you care about.

I am that person who notices even a fleeting twitch and i have realised that that makes me uncomfortable on video calls because i get into noticing facial expressions and it thows me off, while face to face that happens naturally. I do think that you have to adjust how you talk to certain people to get things done else it just wont happen. you have to talk to people in their languge whatever they understand,figuratively and literally. And it does make you feel like an actor but I think that is the part of being a human.
@VulcanXIV
@VulcanXIV Год назад
So it's almost like small-talk, but more akin to a half genuine conversation. To yourself it's small-talk, but to them, you are on their wavelength/spirit/mind and hitting it off. I'm just desperate to learn how to communicate in a broad way. I want to seduce, I want to charm, I want to listen (which according to Robert is how to seduce, by listening and observing their needs and wants). I guess I'm just going to have to read his books before I start rummaging around any further.
@SA-cb2it
@SA-cb2it Год назад
@@VulcanXIV I have never read his book. In my opinion, people are different, they are brought up with different values and in different cultures, but inherently everyone is same, everyone wants to be respected, wants to be seen, wants to be accepted, loved and cherished, so in my opinion if you can give that to people then you are magnetic, people are just drawn to you. So, if you want to be 'seductive' it is a good start to listen. In my observation, people get caught up in wanting to talk and give out information about themselves so others can 'see' them and respect them because of that, the story of identity basically, so you may want that too ie the need to be seen and heard, so if you can keep that aside and just let the other person express themselves then listening part is taken care of, but that doesn't mean you are letting them talk but are not paying attention to what they are saying, responding to them at crucial moments acknowledging / agreeing and respectfully disagreeing or foregoing disagreement at certain points completely is very important part of listening. Disagreeing without offending or making other person feel small is an art. At the end of the conversation, other person should feel like they got to say what they wanted and they were not judged for any of it, it gives a sense of comfort to them. But it has to be genuine, because people can tell when it is not sincere and I think inculcating genuine compassion within yourself solves that. In my opinion, there is no alternative to sincerity. To make people feel heard and seen is to actually hear them and see them.

body language can be deceiving as well. Also humans are very bad at interpreting an individuals body language because often times we cannot see the micro expressions and we do not know that person's specific baseline body language in regards to each specific set of situations and environments and people they react to. Body language interpretation is a tough skill to learn.

From what I understand, that seems to a form of passive aggressiveness. Naturally I'm no therapist, but I feel that based on what people like Jordan Peterson say, you'd think that taking that hour and pointing it out to you as a sign of X, Y and Z about YOU, regardless of what you talked about, would be helpful. Instead he just wants you to do his job for him? Lol. Find a therapist who can actually work on your character flaws, rather than just try to sit there and moralize and preach regarding your actions.
