This is an excellent technical tutorial 👍 There are a lot of videos on RU-vid about this topic, but yours is the best as it includes not just the technique but other information about stretching the muscles that are involved with the kick as well.
Hello bro, this video was informative and realistic,a very common mistake by some karate students is that the supporting leg when pivoting must be of full contact to the ground when the opposite leg (Kicking leg) hits it target, otherwise it will affect the stability and balance of the kicker, your supporting foot was in full contact to the ground when pivoting and kicking otherwise I will negatively doubt your body balance and come in for a take down if we spa.Your fan from the Solomon Islands.❤❤😊😊
Awesome video Sensei Gardiner! We use some of these techniques in our class. I love how you discussed the importance of stretching to prevent injury. Also the rotation of the base foot and leg is extremely important as well. I cringe in the dojo when I see students not pivot their base leg and foot. You and Nat are wicked! Keep up the great work👍🏽
Good in depth video for the kick, some pointers i for sure will apply to my own training, after my return with a stretched groin primarily from kicking with bad form.
@@rRD1496 generally just having practiced the kicks thousands of times, having the supporting leg bent, and having the strength and mobility in the hips to keep the kick up
@@anomouswhiteliquid-tq9rs what do you mean by growth? My progress hasn’t stopped, every year I’m better or have a better understanding than the year before.
Hello, I have a few questions if you don't mind because I just started learning karate by myself. How long should I hold when I stretch? and what can I do to improve my kicking speed?
For stretches in order to improve flexibility I’d hold for 30 secs to 1 min. To improve kicking speed you can work on the strength of your hips; lunges, squats, wide stance squats. And also continue to develop good technique.
Is Boken-Sha smooth and comfortable but still keeps its shape? I have used Tokai kata master for years, washed it who knows how many times and its still stiff and hard and thinking about to get another mre comfortable one. In our dojo we never use ball of foot when practising to human target at least not to jodan since if you accidentaly hit the target with speed its likely to be instant knockout, even thou its easily a kockout with the shin or sole of the foot also but ball of foot does much more devastating damage.
Yes the Boken-sha is a lot lighter than the usual heavier weight ones. I was surprised how light it was when I received it. It’s the most comfortable one I’ve used, I used to like a thicker karategi but I now much prefer something with more freedom of movement and more comfortable. If you do decide to get one of these use that code for a bit of a discount JKG10. For the ball of the foot mawashi-geri I only use it to the body, for higher kicks I’ll go with the instep due to the better reach.
bro your new fan😎 btw i have very built legs, the little i train they grew even more they are heavy can i make them reach from my neck level to head level or will i have to reduce the muscles well training from your videos for last 15 days thanks mann
@@NishanT_ACM you will be able to kick high, just work on hip, hamstring and lower back mobility. My legs are also quite big and I can kick reasonably high
Can I train karate and go to the gym on the same day? *Note: I am currently training shotokan karate 2x a week (Monday and Wednesday) and I train at the gym 3x a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) Nice video. Oss!
