How to Measure a U-bolt 

measuring round or square Ubolts is the exact same process. Measure from the top of the arch, inside length, inside width, diameter. We have charts on how to take those measurements and turn them into usable information. This is just the base information we need to actually make the rods. The problem we have is that everyone measures center to center, which is correct for every other application.....except ubolts. Pretty cool that you had to dabble in springs back all the way to 1979. My dad started working in leaf springs in 1969. he is long retired now, however it is still interesting to see and talk to people that messed with leaf springs back over 40 years ago. The times have changed, the leaf springs have definitely changed a ton. We really have to keep adapting to all the different types of suspension that are out there. I would say the worst suspension to work on today is the Freightliner Columbia/Cascadia 2018+ .... you can't even find a place to jack up on the vehicle to even work on the suspension. Back in 1979 at least they had a frame you can get a jack on.

All of our Ubolts are bent over a dye set, so we just measure the middle and the machine does the rest. However, I do have a calculation for you if you want it. Inside leg length x 2, add the inside width, then the diameter of the rod. So for this one, it will be. 8.5 + 8.5 + 2.5 + 9/16 = 20 1/16" long, however because all our rods are made in 2" length differences we would use a 20" rod, if we wanted it 1" longer we'd use a 22" rod and have a little extra.
