My name is Scott and I run a small spring shop in Ontario Canada
I've noticed that with most videos on suspension they talk about a way to do it, but don't actually show it. I want to bring you along with the projects I work on. The good, the bad and the ugly. There are a lot of strange and interesting jobs that we get into, and I want to share that with you I really want to show you some of the tips and tricks that I use on a daily basis.
I want to show you some fun jobs we do, some strange stuff we get into and just show you some of the processes that we do on a daily basis. Those include working on all sorts of suspensions on trucks, trailers and transport trucks.
We now have a well made and easy to use online storefront. you can check it out at www.simcoespring.com
I watched this video before I did this job on my 62 Kenworth. Your technique worked like a charm. I wouldn't have known how to get the adapters apart otherwise. Thanks!
I’m doing a nightmare reyco suspension chassis, I had to re bush 4 radius rods and upon removing them all the rear bolts were seized to the collar inside so they just spun. So I ended up cutting the bolts from the inside of the hanger just to get them out. And now going back all the damn holes are off, it was quoted to be a 4 hour job! Smh what a annoying job it’s been
I have the henrickson HN series suspension. It looks the same as this other than the bolster springs are different. My bolster springs are just two pads on each side, but they're wider and cover the entire surface area of that spot. What im wondering is, is there any difference between these two suspensions? Is the removal and install basically the same or is there so big difference i should be cautious of? Im getting ready to get into mine here soon and get everything replaced, so im just trying to mentally prepare myself as much as possible.
You differently know what you are doing, great job and good info, I have 2000 Silverado one spring support broke off, should I go ahead and replace both sides, thx again for you sharing your info
YES!!! Finally, a mechanic who admitted that "he wants a professional to do it" so he can screw you on price. Gotta love fake mechanics like the dude doing the work
These only work with axles that are bolted on to the springs from the bottom. If your axle is in the middle between the spring and trailer frame that axle flip kit from dexter will be what you need.
Had the timbren bump stops on my Ram 1500 for towing my RV. They were OK until our first trip with the travel trailer. It was way too harsh once it had that weight on it. Took them off immediately. Was towing my travel trailer with my Expedition Limited. Was looking to go to a 1/2 ton truck. Really liked the Tundras but couldn't find one with better payload capacity than my Expedition. Finally found the Ram I have now that has 1735lbs of payload capacity. The new springs you are offering are a good solution.
Installed the 351-893HD on a 2023 Ram Rebel, crew cab, zero change in the ride height. Slightly stiffer ride in rear end, feels fine. Note, if you don't have a pit to work in, it's a easy changeout to remove the wheels and work from the side.
This is my first time catching you guys on here. I like people who just want to get things done so I’m subscribed. With that in mind, I’m not trying to be a naysayer at all so I hope you don’t take it that way. I have to say, though with this shackle install that leafspring bushing got melted. I know this was a challenge and you were against the clock but that really needed to be replaced. It was compromised.
I wouldn't have re-used it if it was compromised. If you get the heat on fast and get the bolt out fast the rubber doesn't have time to melt. if it melts the outside 1/64" of the outside of the rubber then 99.9% of the bushing is still fine. it is the internal structure that matters. The bushing had more damage from the 15 years it was in the vehicle than the damage we do to them changing them out. if it was my own vehicle at this age I'd just put 2 new springs it with all new hardware. it can go from a $155.00 job to a 775.00 job if we do a whole refurbish/rebuild on the rear suspension. if you go this far, change the Ubolts, front bushings, rear bushings, shackles and the plastic pads in the springs. not the job we where hired for.
you need an over/under conversion kit. You would be able to do it with welding new axle seats on the other side of the axle. If you "rotate" the axle, the brakes will be upside down and the axle will be "arched" the incorrect direction and you will wear tires. We do offer a "flip kit" to do the over under conversion on our website. www.simcoespring.com
23 3/8 was your center to center of the leaf eye??? mine is 23 1/4 is this possible, they are 3500 pounds, so it would be 23 1/4 x2 and + 3 inch ,is this ok Gef
each spring changes arch over time with wear/tear. If you get them real close (1/16 or so) it is good enough. just make sure that both sides are the same. you can actually buy the same part number from 2 different suppliers and they can be 1/8" different in length...so we try to install 4 springs from the same supplier.
I was looking to go with an inch spacer in rear as my Bilstein 5100’s up front leave my front about 9/16” higher than the rear. I just got a trailer so figured lil lift in back would make sense. Then I thought of better coils. My 4x4 shop says I would need new rear shocks as well (also said same w the spacer). Any opinion to that. I like this coil option, would make sense for me.
Only real techs and home mechanics in the north can appreciate this. Even 20 minutes is outstanding! I was even more impressed with the speed you were able to operate your torch at... Bravo kind sir!
Great video, Scott. Just about every one of my trucks over the last few decades has been in a spring shop, mostly because of wear due to snow plowing. It's always reassuring to have your truck riding stout and level with all the leaf springs, hangers, shackles, and bushings in good order.
Технику безопасности при проведении ремонта нарушаешь, после поднятия машину нужно зафиксировать, много людей посмотрят и будут делать так как ты и могут получить травму. Пасибо и успехов тебе.
