In this video, I will show you how to quickly calculate how many yards of concrete you will need without using a concrete calculator.
--------
Example from the video:
20x10 patio = 200 square feet
200 ÷ 81 = 2.5 cubic yards @ 4" thick.
To convert this number for a slab with a different thickness do the following:
1" thick slab = 2.5 yards X 0.25 = 0.625 cubic yards
2" thick slab = 2.5 yards X 0.50 = 1.25 cubic yards
3" thick slab = 2.5 yards X 0.75 = 1.875 cubic yards
4" thick slab = 2.5 yards X 1.00 = 2.5 cubic yards
5" thick slab = 2.5 yards X 1.25 = 3.125 cubic yards
6" thick slab = 2.5 yards X 1.50 = 3.75 cubic yards
7" thick slab = 2.5 yards X 1.75 = 4.375 cubic yards
8" thick slab = 2.5 yards X 2.00 = 5 cubic yards

There are numbers you can use. But I don't use 81, I use 79 in case it's deep. And then add a half yard. Do u finish?

Cool. 👍🏻👍🏻 That’s a good idea. We don’t pour a lot of concrete anymore. Just a few jobs a year.

What if I’m pouring for a quadrangle shaped pad that’s 18’ w by 24’ L by 4’ w by 16’ L by 6” D? How would I go about calculating concrete amount, for that?
@miguelrivers9626
@miguelrivers9626 10 месяцев назад
Im no expert to be honest but i think u should turn the shape into a square or easily calculated shape then then subtract it by the volume of the spots it suppose to be missing , or just break it up into smaller shapes and find the volume of each shape and add it up

@TimDCVA

24x7=168 square feet. 168/81 = 2.07 yards @ 4” thick.

@@TimDCVA. Wtf kind of nonsense is this. 24x 7 x .33 dived by 27 is how it’s been done for decades and centuries. It’s .5 if it’s 6 inches thick.

Ok questions my backyard is 17,000 square feet in yards that's 10yard correct if iam wrong
@TimDCVA
@TimDCVA 2 года назад
No that’s not right. If you are pouring 4” of concrete over 17k feet, then you would need 210 yards.

U can’t explain , square foot includes the height not just length and width , also how much square foot does a yard cover
@johnholmes3584
@johnholmes3584 8 месяцев назад
A yard will cover 81 sq ft four inches thick but he did not explain how he got 81 sq ft. I use to know it, that is why I came to this video.
@TimDCVA
@TimDCVA 8 месяцев назад
1 yard = 27 cubic feet 1 cubic foot = 1 square foot that is 12” thick. 12” thick / 4” thick slab = 3. So one cubic foot will cover 3 square feet @ 4” thick. 3 square feet x 27 (the number of cubic feet in a yard) = 81 square feet per yard.
