Hi I'm Tim Seay. Im the owner of Decorative Concrete of Virginia.
My installation business Decorative Concrete of Virginia installs Stained Concrete, Polished Concrete, Epoxy Coatings, Concrete Countertops and Concrete Restoration projects across Virginia and North Carolina.
I also teach/advise people how to install different decorative concrete systems.
this is so cool!! I have been looking for videos to show a no-dust way to do pour-in-place concrete countertops and this one is it! So cool -- I didn't know you can remove the molds when the concrete is still setting, so then you get the tapered edge without sanding. thank you so much for making this!! going to give it a go in my kitchen :)
Hi Tim! Thanks for your video. I have two contractors and they are giving difference price points. Both are using 100% solids epoxy. Contractor A: 2 coats of colored epoxy and then 2 coats of clear epoxy. Price: $5420 with coving. Contractor B: Initial Epoxy coating and then polyaspartic 80% solids urethane based. Price is $7280 with out coving. What am I missing here?
Aesthetic. I highly recommend against it if you actually use your garage to work. I broadcast flakes on mine, and anytime I drop something on the floor... It's impossible to find that screw, nut, piece in the sea of camouflage flakes!
Working on it now. It’ll be a few weeks. I did post a bunch of shorts in a row that tell the whole story. You just have to scroll through the shorts feed to find them.
I love that look!! Is there a coarse texture to this product? I live in the Cascade mountains and my patio has a concrete stain and sealer on it that extremely slippery when it gets snow on it. Any advice on what I can do to lessen that problem?
What an awsome video to explain the differences in products !!! Been thinking about tackling my own floor. I'm somewhat handy with a lot of things but the problem with making a completely smooth service without having a grinder with those high dollar diamond bits it won't look like yall did the floor. If u consider what it would cost to rent one and all the different items needed for prep it probably wouldn't take much more just to have a professional outfit do it.
What products did you use on the slab you just sealed and did not stain? There’s so many seal options out there I’m not sure what would give me a finish that looks like the one you guys did. Thanks!
@@TimDCVA I am two times hospitalized bc I got an heavy allergic reaction from epoxy. I was making rc helicopter body's. Made hunrdeds of them without any problems. Then I became allergic, and almost suffocated, my throat closed. Years later I just made a little bit epoxy for a reparation, and yes again to the ER. Never touch it again.
Why do you have any kind of concern about it being level to the floor when you're going to come back the next day and send it. You know what you guys remind me of is the same kind of crap that goes on on all reality-based drama TV shows where they have like gold rush or why do you have any kind of concern about it being level to the floor when you're going to come back the next day and send it. You know what you guys remind me of is the same kind of crap that goes on on all reality-based drama TV shows where they have like gold rush or homestead rescue. You make up something that you say is like oh my God I don't know if we're going to be able to do this it kind of troubling I'm worried about it and you say what it is that's the problem and how it could be a disaster. But then at the end of the video you say how you'll be back the next day to send it down to make it look nice and smooth and level to the floor so the whole problem we have in the beginning where you say the floors on level this could be an issue isn't an issue at all. It's just you creating drama just like all them stupid fake reality shows
Absolutely love the content Tim. Thank you. It would be awesome if you spent 'some' time on the grinding aspect (removal of the cap, the profile etc etc). Thx again for the info.
Too bad that there’s no way really to apply both finishes in keeping with the marbleized look. Like the black areas behind shinier/wetter looking (“flowing”, “moving”). Maybe only sand and refinish certain parts and not the others (the chemicals). That would be incredible and totally fit this space’s aesthetic! But not possible I’m assuming.
Hi Tim. These overlay finishes look fantastic. We have a similar front porch slab (100 yr old) that I would like to do something similar. But we live in Western Pennsylvania & I've read/heard that cementitious overlays do not last in our freeze/thaw climate. This slab is covered from above and the sides but I'm still worried. Also, there is the snow and ice and salt. Any thoughts? Thanks
People is epolying everything. I'm afraid they will someday epoxy a cat or something when they run out of things to epoxy 😂 Also, imagine recycling that plastic 🔥
My wonderful handyman just finished replacing the wood posts on my aggregate front porch due to dry rot and a cracked cement corner. He had to remove a large chunk of the concrete corner and repair. I’m getting ready to hire someone to either stain or epoxy and seal my front porch (cracked aggregate) and walkway for a uniform look. I really like this method and finish over any other so far. Thank you for your video. It will be helpful in making my decision. ❤
