Strike and dip measurements help geologists resolve the attitudes of planar geologic surfaces and are essential to constructing accurate geologic maps and cross sections. Unfortunately, students often struggle with developing this skill because they are preoccupied with the process of using Brunton compasses and neglect to carefully consider what they are measuring and why.
