I'm 5'10 (178cm) running a XFusion Manic 150mm which is too small for me, I can't get it out of the way enough. When I use the OneUp calculator for my bike it comes out to max 180mm. I'm just not sure I want to drop $230 on 30mm difference. I think I'll take my dropper off and measure the frame tube to see how deep I can go. Specialized says 240mm, I guess they should know. The only complaint I have about this bike.
I bought a new enduro bike frame-only recently and I've been running a static post so far. I was all set to splash out on a Fox Transfer Factory post the other day until I measured my stack height and insertion depth and realised I'd have to run a 150mm drop post but if I went with the OneUp, for 2/3 the price, I could run a 180mm drop post! It's a no brainer, for me its OneUp FTW.
It’s only overwhelmingly complicated for high school drop outs and mentally handicapped folks due to drugs, mental illness, TBI or birth. Somethings in life are complicated. And a normal disciplined brain can understand this procedure. 😏
That bits scary you said a 5.11 rides a medium and what size of dropper he must be right hunched up! Im same hight and need a large with 150mm dropper the collar is inline with my frame so alot looks good than seeing droppers 2 or 3 inches out the frame i hate that my fox 150mm dropper at 5.11 is still to tall for me aswell it came with the German manufacturer bike but wish droppers can be set to a hight instead of them shooting up fully all the time and having to sit down oops to far need to press it again comes up sit nops to high again oops to low there a pain in the hole! Rather just havenone that can be set to a hight you'll always be comfortable with i can't get used to mine atoll!
LBS fitted my cable activated dropper post but made the too short so when I sit on the saddle there is too much bend in my knee (serious thigh burn!) I can’t pull the seatpost higher as the cable housing doesn’t seem long enough. Is there a way I can make the dropper sit higher in the seat tube without installing a new cable?
Heres a story, I have 240mm insertion depth, measured with a fixed post, I got an xfusion manic 170mm thinking it’s gonna stick out like 20mm or something. Boom, slams right in, I am very confused
Taping a circle of cardboard, slightly smaller than your seat tube diameter, to a tape measure should allow you to measure your maximum insertion depth, maybe subtract a little from the measurement for safetyz.
I have more of a question than a comment. I have a oneup post and a transition spur. The post won't stay in set position. It keeps slipping down. I have tried the FIBRE GRIP. It seems to make it worst. Any ideas that will work out for me?
That's an odd problem to have! I would use a torque wrench to make sure that you're torquing the post to the right spec and then it shouldn't slip at all. If you're still having problems I would reach out to Transition directly! -Tor 😎
Great video, thanks. How often does the manufacturer spec and the at-home measurement of the insertion depth differ? Yeti told me that my SB140 (27.5 - XS) had a max insertion depth of 203mm including the actuator, but when I drop a fixed post in I can drop it to 235mm. Seems like a big difference.
Hey Tommy! Thanks for the questions! That's a huge difference between what they advertised and what you found on your bike, and I don't think that's typical. My insertion depth on my Transition Spire was just a couple mm off of what they listed on their website! -Tor
Travel adjustable posts are the way to go, like PNW loam post. One up V2 was the worst quality post I have ever owned. Tons of play and constant maintenance.
