Katherine Steele : Predict what the next line in the dialogue is logically to memorize your script. The script: "You are a saucy boy", "What, you egg?"", [He stabs him]
What my brother did to memorize lines was, he would walk around the house and say repeat his monologue for like twenty minutes every single say. I would follow him around the house and mock everything he did.
I'm a auditory learner and a visual learner so I spend a lot of time saying my lines out loud and highlighting and marking my scripts. But to make sure I learn as best as possible I add motion to the lines, (this works best with songs). Hope this helped anyone who needed it.
I’m the lead in my show rn, and I have A LOT of lines. I have 2 weeks to get off book will tech. I have 3/4 of my lines 100% the rest I know, but get stuck on ques. A good thing that helps me is using blocking while rehearsing, splitting your lines into act 1&2, and record yourself saying other people’s lines 👍🏻
I NEED HELP Our first performance is Thursday Dress rehearsals tomarrow And I have 3/19 lines memorized Help I'm not going to sleep until I have this thing memorized I keep getting stuck on this paragraph: thank youDee, well just sit here and wait for him to come back, I'd rather check with him before we go all around town looking for it hes a nice boy, his parents have a treasure in him quiet, polite, responsible, it's too bad more if these teenagers cant be more like him, they have no respect for their elders, dancing around, driving fast, listening to that obnoxious music, talking in slang, working in that highschool is enough to send anyone over the edge, and I have such a delicate constitution YES I DID IT I DID IT WITHOUT LOOKING AT MY SCRIPT
I need advice! im in a Original Cast of a new musical. When i perform in a musical there is always youtube to help me with my number. But this musical is original so we have to read notes (i cant) and i can't copy anything. Any advice?
Great video, thanks 😊 There’s a really helpful app for iPhone/iPad I’ve been using called DialogMaster Pro, which allows actors to record each character’s lines in the scene, or break a long monologue into smaller sections, and it can repeat playback for as long as you like. It can even play in the background when other apps are open or the screen is off. Each recording in the timeline is tagged to the character it belongs to in the scene, and it allows you to skip unwanted recordings in playback or group smaller sections together to focus on specific areas instead of the entire scene at once. Once you know your own character’s lines, it will allow you to silence the audio for your character but still play the other characters lines, so that way you can rehearse your scene with all the characters in the conversation but you’re no longer being assisted with the audio of your lines playing in the background. Only the other characters lines will cue you like a normal rehearsal, and you fill in the gaps by saying the lines yourself... So, not only does it help with memorizing lines, but it also helps you rehearse the scene with all the other characters talking. You can rehearse an entire scene or script without having any other scene partners in the room... Pretty handy 😊
This video will help a lot! My theater teacher this year gave us silent memorizing time. It helped some kids but most of us hated it because most of use where good at learning by acting things out (I'm not going to try to spell it). I found it helped a lot to give my hands certain movements to do with each line. Ive been doing dance classes for as long as I can remember so it helps A LOT!!
Could you do a video on quick changes?? In a play I am cast in there are two possibilities for quick changes and I would like to be prepared if this does end up happening! You are such an inspiration and I love your personality, it's so upbeat! Thank you so much♥️💗
I'm late but put on the most important pieces first! I was a cop in elf the musical and had to do a full costume change within 30 secs. Once, I ran out of time to put on my badge and handcuffs, but thank goodness I got the basic pieces on first
I was in shrek the musical this year and I had three roles Young Fiona, a duloc citizen, and a bird in morning person so I had many quick changes and they were so stressful so I have a few tips 1. If the change is so fast and you don’t think you have enough time to do it talk to your director about possibly coming off the stage early so you will have enough time 2. The second you get to the wings of the stage start taking off little things like head pieces or arm pieces while your walking to the changing area 3. The best way is to have multiple people helping you so if there is any crew that aren’t doing anything during that time then ask them to help you These are my best tips but also I just realized I’m late lol😂
I’m a visual learner. I hope that’s helpful. I actually have auditory processing disorder (it means I can’t process things as quickly as people who don’t have this disorder) It seems like I have to work twice as hard for remembering lines so thank you for this information!
Could we get a video about different genres of musicals or maybe even different composers and such? I would love to discuss those and see what your personal favs are from each genre or composer! Plus, it gives us a chance to know more musicals!
I know that I am kinda late to the party..... (like 4 years late), but thank you for all of the great tips for memorizing lines because I definitely needed them. I just got the role as Beth in Little Women, which is the biggest speaking role I've ever gotten, so I've never had to memorize a script before. So thank you so much for these tips. Your videos have helped me so much as a beginner actress.
I am currently freaking out about my audition next week and the fact that I have two monologues to learn but you've erased the fear. I am actually excited to try all these new tricks ! x
I just wanted to let you know that these videos have been such a huge help for me lately; I have callbacks for Bye Bye Birdie tomorrow and I had to memorize a script pretty quickly. Thank you for making these videos- I know that they’re a huge help for a lot of people !
I am going to be one of 4 or 5 speakers in my school's team in a bublic speaking event. The event is after exactly one month, we will write the speech, do the presentation, and memorize in that time. Last time I did public speaking I was a minor speaker and I forgot most of my lines. Any tips on how to prepare and say everything smoothly and volubly. Thanks
I’m watching all of your acting videos. I couldn’t find any auditions in Houston, but i am signed up with scenebot. I’ve gotten two of my auditions in honorable mentions. Is there any other place that I can audition online?
I Did My Very First Monologue Back In January,Back In December 2019, I Was Starting To Memorize. And Then In January 2020, I Started Recording And Uploaded To RU-vid.
I’m playing Alice in my schools production of Alice in America-Land (it’s a parody of alice in wonderland). I have nearly 200 lines, i’m on stage for the entire 2 hour production, and we only have a month to learn everything. HALP
I'm binge watching your vids right now because i just got my first lead ever in Les Mis and i'm so nervous i won't get it all done 🙃😂 do you think these tips are applicable to songs as well? they probably are but do you have different tips for sung through shows?
I'm watching this right now a couple of weeks before an audition that I need to learn a 1 minute monologue for, and the second you mentioned the learning styles, I related. I've ALWAYS had a problem with memorising lines, while I find it SO MUCH easier to remember the words to songs that I've been listening to a lot (it also sometimes helps me to read the words WHILE listening to the song and singing along), so I took a couple of online tests, and they both suggested that I'm an auditory learner. Manchester from Hair - Ooh, I actually had that in my head a few hours ago. I'm gonna go listen to Hair.
In frozen jr, I’m Anna, I’ve played moderate roles before but this is a lot complacent to what I’m used to, I’m on stage for like almost the entire show besides like the opening and let it go and a couple scenes here and there.
At my school we are doing the lion king jr. I am timon and I'm so excited to perform but I'm so nervous. We only have 14 rehearsals each are 1 hour and 30 minutes long. There are 10 big dances and 11-12 songs I think. Also i cant sing very well yet i have 3 songs. Any tips on how to be more confident???
I was told that since this kid dropped out and a could audition for the part and the director GAVE ME THE PART BUT when I got there another kid that didn't even audition (which isn't allowed ) was there to audition for it and DIDN'T SAY THE LINES LOUD ENOUGH TO HEAR IT ON STAGE and got the part And I had mesmerized the script
This actually really helped, I am in 3 different shows rn, I have a Christmas thing at my church, I am in Mary Poppins and a Charlotte's Web show, idk how that will turn out but tysm
I’m currently in junior high, 7th grade, and I definitely want to be involved in high school plays. So I’m just watching these kinds of videos when I’m bored.
this takes a long time but wrote your lines down, if you write something, and read it once you write it then it sticks in your brain. ON PAPER!! you remember it more on paper
btw learning methods have no evidence that they actually work and are widely considered a myth that's not to say that people don't learn in different ways but its shown in multiple studies that most people learn by actually doing stuff
i’m auditioning for a show in almost one week and have a HUGE shot at the lead (or the supporting lead) and both guys have quite a lot of lines. but we only have two weeks to put on the show so yeah i’m gonna need this if i get a lead
like everyone, perfect timing too 😂 cuz i have a show ...shows actually but 1 is for theatre (drama club YAY) and yaa HAHAHAH but im an auditory and (kinetic) (kinesthetic) HHAHAA yea okay 💙
*or print a little script for practice and do the tips you have given and then if you do become an actor/actress you can have improved memory probably.”
This is going to help so much thank you! I am doing The Music Man and I am Marian. I am so exciting, but I do have a lot of lines to learn so thank you!
Theatre Thursday- today’s Thursday too and I have to memorize this narrator lines by four hours so I can present and read it out loud in class tomorrow 😂
