You my man are a Godsend!! Followed every step. Pump was seized but sorted with WD40 and moving the gears. Pressure regulator mesh screen was totally blocked with crud. Thank you.
Awesome, thanks Dean. I have a 2010 mercury 60hp efi that refused to start. Your suggestion to pull the electric pump and turning the vane worked perfectly. I have some other info that might be helpful for another issue related to this fuel delivery problem, that your subscribers may find helpful. I know I was unable to find the info I required other than what you had on this channel. When I have a moment I'll give the details. Thanks again Dean.
Ok, so when I had the engine running I found a fuel leak at the fuel cooler. Apparently there is no schematic exploded parts diagram to allow for ordering of the o-rings in this serviceable component. I believe MERCURY sells this as a complete unit, at a very steep price. Anyhow I went to super cheap auto and bought two packs of metric Champion o-rings part number CBB5, a pack of 6-16 mm Tridon hose clamps part number MH004C, and I used some tap lubricant grease suitable for rubber. Using these items I was able to successfully replace the 4 old o-rings and fix the fuel leak for around 25 dollars.
Dean you are a legend mate. Thanks for sharing this as it just saved me some cash because i was at my wits end and was preparing to take it to the mechanics. Worked a treat, Cheers.
We have a 60 hp 4S Mariner hat has sat for about 3 or even 4 years since it was run. So when I cleaned out the tank, replaced the fuel lines the motor refused to run. A mechanic stripped the fuel pump and the 12V pump was dead. I soaked it for 3 days and had it in an ultrasonic cleaner but still no go. THEN, I found your video! The part where you suggested turning the gears with a sharp knife was the answer. I tried to spin the gear backwards and forwards with a tapered knife and it slowly began to move. After lots of wiggling I connected the electrical leads and it actually spun around. I am checking it every hour after soaking and blowing with compressed air and it is is getting better each time I run it.The fuel pump is the life of the engine and even our lives are dependent on it working flawlessly. It would be no fun to have the pump stop working when we are 23 miles offshore. Many thanks for your video, The time you took to produce it is very much appreciated. We live in the northern part of Queensland Australia where finding parts is difficult to almost impossible. Many thanks again for you great video. I couldn't have done the job without it.
Hi Joe , good to hear. I'm from Mackay Qld . I ended up replacing my pump after a year or so. Got it from eBay for 220 Aussie. Totally recommend that if you can , like you say it's the heart. Happy fishing
WHat year motor was the EFI? I am looking at a 2007 90 HP mercury 4 stroke. Seller says it sat for a couple years in the North east of the US. he reports that when it starts it starts fine, but does blow black smoke. I did find an issue where the ethanol was eating through a vacuum line and I have no idea if those were changed. He reports good even compression on each cylinder. Would you steer clear? If it passes a leak down test would this engine be safe to buy? Thank you!
Hi I cleaned mine out today new motor to me only 10 years old Mercury 25 EFI has sat for 3-4 years the fuel pump was seized up when I tried starting it after putting everything back together was smoking from front of motor where ecu is located?? Any ideas? I put black on ground and brown on positive

06 60hp 4 stroke lost rpms. Removed vst and it had a lot of yellow fluid in it ,screens were pretty clean. i had already got a new quantum pump and installed .Still not getting over 5000 rpms wot. question are the quantum pumps any good or do i need to but the old pump back in?
Hi mate , I ended up replacing my pump with a new genuine pump. Ordered it from USA and has worked a treat. About 250aus dollars from memory. I don't know about the quantum pumps.
awesome video! I replaced the fuel pump housing on the back of the motor because it was leaking out the side. when I took the boat out it would bog down and die and barely idle. I chased the gas lines all the way to this high pressure pump and gas is fine but the boat wants to bog down when I quickly accelerate? do you think this is my prob? 2005 mercury bigfoot 50hp. Note: I did tap on this thing and it seem to run better?
