Just replaced my damaged OEM keys for my R53 with the cut keys. Super easy install and works flawlessly. Highly recommend. Also, note I tried the ones on Amazon and the like and they’re worthless.

Excellent! Our '04 Mini fob is missing the buttons, and the dealer quoted us $250. The local locksmith wanted $450. I'm glad I resisted and found this video.

@3:00 best way to open key. Seen so many people try to open it from the side and knock components off the PCB.

Hi ..I have a 2002 mini cooper...bought a replacement key off eBay....fitted the ID chip and blade from the spare key and works ok apart from the two button board ..will not connect. To open and close the doors ...do the early minis need coded for locking??

This is an amazing alternative to buying an OEM replacement. Although I'd love to have the original look of my 2004 R53 Mini keyfob, the least expensive OEM I could find was about $175. I love My Precious, but there are other Mini related expenses I can put that savings toward!

How do I remove the blank blade and put my already cut key blade in the new case?

While this is easy with several type of keys, it is especially hard to do this on a Mini Cooper key. The metal pin at the top of the blade inside the casing needs to be pulled out to release the blade. There might be fitment issues that are different on each key but it can be done with the right tools.
