A bit of a change from the usual videos that I post. This is a "How To" video that describes the process of changing the front wheel bearing/hub assembly on a 2003 MINI Cooper (although, this procedure should apply to most, if not all, MINI models from 2002 to present).
EDIT: The torque values for everything (including the ones I didn't do with the torque wrench) can be found here: www.northameric...
And if you need to convert these from Imperial to metric, try out this conversion site: www.convertunit...

Very good on the verbal part, video itself was way too dark to see anything in a lot of places.

"don't let Sears see you using that pipe on their ratchet or you'll never be able to return it!" said Bill from 2001. lol

+doctornoise HAHA! Yeah...cuz, you know, that ratchet isn't like the fourth one they've given me as a replacement for other ones that I "haven't used a breaker bar on"

great explanations ! It's the first time I do some mechanical stuff on a car (I'm a girl)andI managed !! *proud* The only question is what is the metric number for the torque wrench at the end (I'm french, not the same metric system..) Now I have to do the rear ;) Thanks again man !

The axle nut is 182 Newton meters and the wheel hub/bearing bolts are 56 newton meters. And also, I'm an ass for not answering you sooner....sorry :(

And I edited the video description with some links for the torque values and a imperial to metric conversion site. :)

Nice video. I cannot get my old hub off, even with a 5-ton gear puller. Can I do any damage to the axle by banging from one side with the sledge hammer, or should I keep pounding away until it comes loose? Thanks!

Thanks. Yes you can absolutely do damage to the axle, especially to the splines where the axle meets the hub. In fact, the way that I took the hub off really isn't the correct way. You are supposed to pull on the hub while firmly, but not hard, hitting on the end of the axle. The percussive force ends up allowing the hub to break free and slide off. But up here in the rust belt, that doesn't always work. Sounds like you have a similar problem. You may want to ask your question over at the mini 2 forums at www.mini2.com/ Is it because of rust that it won't break free?

I kept banging and got the hub loose, but the axle was then stuck in the hub. A 7-ton puller did the trick. Thanks for the response!

The noise did indeed stop after the change (answering for Dan cause he constantly forgets to check these comments lol)

+Mai Moua It's true, I do manage to forget to respond pretty frequently. But yes, this did fix it.
