A Nice Thing To Do With The Backup Vocals Is Putting Them An Octave Down Sometimes On Top Of The Original Backup Vocals. Really Adds Character. Also, Waves' 'Vocal Rider' Is A Very Useful Tool! :)
I was never sure on how to mix background vocals and if I put most of my plug in effects on my lead vocal only and very little effects on my other vocals. I always thought that it would over power the harmonies but now that I see how you even things out, now I know how to do it, thanks to you. Love your creation process and love how you create those contagious harmonies and vocals.
I am a beginner at producing, mixing and masteriing because I have been just writing songs for years but I got tired of depending on others to get my ideas down in music form and have them record my vocals and mix them down. I decided I was gonna learn and what better way to learn then with Logic Pro X and by people like you that take the time to make videos like this. Thank you so much
Oh my days.. darling it’s over processed.. I hope ur ram is still alive.. don’t get me wrong this could have been achieved in a very simple method.. there is no rules on mixing but your trying to teach people where not everyone have a better processing computers.. it could be very difficult for a beginner.. but good work.. 🤟👍
Muchísimas gracias queen! Me encantaría ver como haces un beat de reggaeton from scratch! No tan dancehall si no quizás old school reggaeton if you know what I mean.
I feel like you're using way too many plugins...but the song sounds good. I was always taught to get it right at the source when you record so that you don't have to use so much processing. Are you using so many plugins (EQ's, and compressions) because you're recordings are hindered by bad room acoustics?
Great composer, I feel she would sound even better with fewer effects. The vocals sound flangey and phasey. I imagine hearing it nice and warm like a more natural R&B mix, and I get goosebumps thinking about it! But hey, it's her art, and she's gotta make the sound that makes her happy! Over processed is kind of the thing I guess these days... Sadly... for me, anyways. It hides the natural beauty of her voice.
nice video! thank you! I thought monitoring in prefader mode would make more sense for the incoming signal in case hot! from what i hear doesn’t look like you’re clipping, but can still toggle back etc! also chain is loaded with way too many plugins i get that waves have the 40% off , but aint gotta kill cpu power n potential phase issues...
Hi Valentina! Your videos are very helpful to me! thank a lot, you are really very good at teaching! I've a question, in track n.12 and 13 have you changed the pitch? With plugin pitch shifter or with the track function "transpose"?
Hate to break it to you but on an 1176 the 7 on the attack and release potentiometer is the fastest and the 1 is the slowest. So, the settings you describe are completely incorrect. Your “quick” attack and release time are actually the slowest this unit goes. Plus the fact that you can’t hear or tell the difference between the fast and slow times is scary. You just keep further proving my point - you should not be attempting to “teach” people anything audio related. You are passing on your bad habits and misinformation.
Using a pop shield usually helps with this, if you haven't used one already. Also removing the low ends, quite a bit, in the EQ can really help also. A noise gate is another useful tool, as well, letting through only the dynamics that you want to come through, cutting out quieter noises like breathes. Just got a do what sounds best for you. Hope this helps. 😊
Hey Mix Enthusiasts - I strongly recommend NOT downloading this “Stock Vocal Preset” she’s pushing. It’s an automatic way to make your vocal sound worse. But more than that, it’s a great way to instill poor mixing habits into your workflow. You’re better off using the Presets that come in the plugin menu. At least those were designed by someone with a proper audio education and some legitimate merit. Consider yourselves warned.
I have to agree with PAL. I have no commercial interest but I do have 27 years of recording experience. The sequence of FX applied is incorrect and as this guy says, the 1176 works in reverse as to how described. I admire the desire to make a teaching video - but I think you need to establish your knowledge more first. I would never compress the same signal twice in the channel - only adding some extra at mixing / mastering stage. I was double checking something when I came across this and cold;t resist a response!!
I appreciate the fact that she's experimenting and sharing what she's learning. The vocal production is not to my taste, too artificial for my ear, phasey and flangey. It would sound great with some warmth and a more natural approach as she's a great composer, but it's her art, and the over-processed sound is what the kids are into these days, it seems. So, hey. How do we get the kids back to enhancing their talent instead of covering it up? It's like putting ketchup in a truffle risotto.
