Good job! Straight to the point, not long winded, well thought out! I've seen a lot of tutorials from youtube, groove3, sonic academy, macpro etc. and you're definitely blowing most of them away in regards to presentation!! Normally I have to scan and skip because it's just way too much blah blah blah and over explaining. You have a knack for this man!! Keep up the great work! Peace and blessings!!
This really is one of the best drum tutorials on youtube, not many videos help you understand parallel compression setup the way you have here. Thank you so much! I''m subscribing! Looking forward to more videos! Take it easy dude x
Excellent use of the plugins involved and very straightforward video showcasing an expert array of professional techniques-thank you for doing and sharing such fine work!
I followed everything you said, minus the part where you added the tape saturation to the drum bus (just didn't seem necessary for me). Great results, thank you for the tips!
I think you've done an outstanding job with this video and it managed to help me a lot. Thank you very much. Can you sometime make a video about mixing/layering guitars as well, or even a full track? Best regards and keep up the good work!
great video, it reinforced everything I do myself with these plugins. I find when using the ssl comp, whatever gain reduction your pushing you need to only use around 75% when setting your make up, ie 4 db gain reduction needs around 3 db of make up to balance the volume, not sure why that is.
NIce video, Carl, decent tips for beginner and great sound you've mixed. You just may ensure to watch output levels when adding plugins and doing a A/B. It may fool people perceiving a sound just louder.
Don't get me wrong. You did a great job here!. But I remember when I started mixing, I relied too much on the volume than on actual improvements EQ or compression made.
finally thank GOD.. please make it fast bro im making new song and i am confusing about mixing guitars and bass..by the way i have all waves plugin.@@carlvh4296
Great video, very good use of compression. In my humble opinion, the snare still has that harmonic "ring" to it, if you listen closely, it becomes apparent (and annoying). Keep up the good work, mate.
Question! is ezdrummer 24 bit or 16 bit, i can't seam to squeeze enough loudness out of my drums and it's driving me insane! everything else i record is 24 bit/48 and i can barely hear the drums! this tut might be my answer :)
Very good expression carl.İm using almost same plugins on my drum mix. That drum is i quess ez modern kit.why dont u use "original mix"options in ez modern kit?.that gives u a kick in+kick out and snare bttm too. Couse this kick is really needs sub.You can use rbass if u have or clarisonix.and roll of 30-40 hz of kick can be good. And you must look again to top end i think.Which monitörs are u using? But our way is almost same for drum mixing.Stay with music.
Is it useable for live electric drum with ez drummer with this kind of eq and compression??? I am playing live in a band with my e drums connect to ez drummer and logic pro for my live set.. do you think this will help with live set? Please help me
Just a doubt, make difference put all the tracks in a Buss for the drums and then put the NLS Channel just on that buss, instead of put the NLS Channel in each track? Awesome video by the way!
I didn't "send" them I "bussed/routted" them to the drums full. If you're on Cubase make sure you hilight both tracks, right click and choose route to new channel. Let me know if you cone right.
Ez drummer comes already pre mixed. You dont see it on the mixer but they are. (see website) The only thing you have to do is divide Kick, snare , toms, OH, room mix faders to taste then adjust the tone on the entire kit or individual pieces. Anything else added later like saturation or compression will make them sound horrible and over processed. Ez drummer comes already with saturation ...then you put the NLS ...thats more saturation...then the SSL G thats even more saturation. To me they sound really distorted.
It is genuinely astonishing how many RU-vid videos about mixing are THEMSELVES poorly mixed. For this video, I had to turn the volume up to hear the narration, which then caused me to go deaf when he played the drum loop.
Hi, a question here, do I have to bounce drum tracks into stems to edit them? I think you mentioned cpu usage. Is there more pros for doing it? (And no, I won't send my tracks to someone else to work at)
I think you answered your own question here. I bounced the stems out to save CPU power so I could run the screen capture software whilst mixing, but you definitely don't have to bounce them out.
