I just like how "free" Dave is when he makes this video. He has the whole concept of the video and a goal, but he reminds us that with mixing - you have to experiment and try different things. just got finished reading the pensado papers, in the interest of sharing, i am a techno/ house guy, i use big kick pluggin along with Nicky Romero kick drum pluggin, I use the Nickey romero to make the kick in key ect then dump the audio file into big kick for more editing, big kick allows you to add some bottom, top, and really preside editing features just thought i would share, you can basically do the same thing that dave does here plus more - Dave u guys rock !

The comment about the "Low Frequency" switch at 1:50. I am Lmao! :-) There are a lot of similar "restricting without any reason" architectures on plugins that i don`t understand.
Great trick love it. One remark though. My phase alarm goes off at the thought of pasting a signal on top of an other signal with the same frequency. Know any plugins to do real time metering on phase issues?
The Prince of Space he actually said at the start 'sounds great in the mix, I'll play that for you in a second' (or similar). I'd at least liked to have heard it with the rest of the kit to get it in context.

Dave I have no doubt this technique works but I can't understand how because we never heard it in context with the track. I know. Unreleased material. Maybe an already released track next time for demo purposes?
Tried and true method for me. Graphic EQ +6db at 80hz and -2~3db notch at 160~375 High Pass - -48DB with Resonance at 80 Reverb and Chorus - 80/20 Dry\Wet Stereo Enhancer - -50 LL/ 50 RL
I did this on some reggae stuff I worked on, put it at a subsonic frequency it was probably 35 or 40 in key with the song,, it would interact with the bass guitar on the low notes, so i ended up only using it when the bass guitar was cut out.. i liked it, but it sounded cleaner that way, maybe I had it up too loud? Ive been trying to add less subsonic stuff tho because i tend to overdo the bass then when I try to master it i cant get enough volume without distortion. I also noticed that when I add heavy mastering compression/limiting I often need to turn down the highs and lows a bit to make it sound how it originally sounded, like the limiting brings out the extremes, is that common knowledge?
You shouldn't be adding heavy limiting to ur master. If the peaks are that all over the place you need to go back and work on the mix. If you think it isn't loud enough consider not using compression on the master, just the sound u want emphasized.
Toby Truman Its a cheap little speaker that became quite popular for its portability and reasonable sound quality (for its size). And in answer to its use, its probably used as a reference speaker to make sure that the mix sounds equally as good on a cheap small speaker as it does on the large expensive monitors used to mix because thats what most listeners will be using :)
there's a mix man I worked with at Nyquist, called Raz Klinghoffer, and he is very cheap and his mixes are truely awesome Wish he'd made a video about his technics
So the moral of the story is to know the technical stuff, then forget that and just try stuff to make it sound cool. Hopefully when you're done you didn't make it worse.
