Mixing paint to create flesh and skin tones is a popular topic for beginner artists. If you train yourself to see color notes you will be able to mix these colors easily. Color notes of light and dark value and warm and cool color temperature is all important. In this video I demonstrate how to use your basic colors to arrive at the correct color note.

One year later and is still a legend for helping out artists. This is the most simple and effective guide on making flesh tones. Ofc there are other ways to make flesh tones but they seem extra to me. This is just so perfect! Thank you, Malcolm! You are amazing!

I am one of your ardent fans from India . Wish you would guide me a little about indian skin tones. For portraits i only dare to make pencil sketches.

Use the colour palettes described in this video. Just adjust values and colour temperature. Values are most important

First time doing oil paints, how would i tackle glazing skin tones? Or do i do alla prima first and add glazing subtle after?
@MalcolmDewey
@MalcolmDewey 4 месяца назад
Two ways. Old Master monochrome painting, let it dry then glaze to add transparent skin tone color. Second way is to complete painting in color, let it dry, then glaze to add warmer or cooler color nuance. Practice first before trying out on the painting.
