Pablo Picasso said , “ learn the rules like a pro , so you can break them like an artist “ ... well, he lived by this principle, and I love and agree with sentiment. Hello from Sydney Australia!!!
My true winter mom did teach me to only wear silver because apparently we’re both cool tones. But then I figured out I‘m actually neutral. So I started to wear gold and rosegold jewelry and I love it.
Such a good point and I have noticed and been perplexed by that! SO many shoes, bags, even details on hats and such are only sold in golden hued hardware. As someone who personally likes to match all of my metals, and who is cool-toned (therefore wearing silver) it's very annoying when the handbag throws the entire outfit off. I hope brands will take into account both undertones in the future!
I usually like wearing silver in summer because my skin (even though I burn) gets a bit warmer and slightly darker, and I like the contrast. On the other hand, I usually wear gold in the winter to "warm me up". I'm cool toned by the way.
I always wondered why I liked the 3 gold twisted bangle that my grandparents bought me for my 18th when 98% of the time I hate wearing gold - Now it makes sense! I love your makeup and jewellery choices in this video - very fresh!
Justine, thank you so much for so gracefully explain this topic. I turned 30 and have make it a point to buy “real jewelry” but I had no idea where to start. Dear you are a blessing!
I gravitate to silver. I’d love to see a video on what type of jewelry suits what kind of neck length, face shape. My neck isn’t very long and I can’t find a necklace that suits me or round earrings look terrible on me... would love to see your perspective 🙏🏼😊
Yes to jewelry as Centerpiece 😄 I don’t wear much makeup and my uniform wardrobe is plain and neutrals, so I use my pieces to create a “Wow” effect 🤩 Have gotten compliments this way. The jewelry is my “make-up” 😍
I must be neutral toned, as I'm colour blind and just wear whatever I think looks nice and people say the colours look good on me 😅 it's even funnier when people compliment my outfits colour combinations
I'm wondering if you look good because you're inadvertently making bolder fashion choices. A lot of people are scared and stick to a small comfort zone while also wishing they looked cooler.
Makeup ON POINT! So pretty! I'm a big fan of mixed metals, in fact I'm wearing a ring with both gold and silver AND my wedding ring metal is gold, but the prongs for the center stone are platinum and there are lots of tiny diamonds that give a silvery look. It's gorgeous!
Ever since my teenage years, I always preferred to wear silver. I didn't understand why I liked gold on others but not on me... And then discovered I am perfectly cool-toned ☺️
I love mixing silver with gold, white gold with rose gold etc. The point of jewelry is beauty and play. If it doesn’t make me happy to wear it, what could possibly be the point?
Fellow olive undertone here! Because olive means a green undertone, it is in between cool (blue) undertone and warm (yellow) undertone, so advice for neutral undertones usually applies fairly well. Your olive might tend a bit towards blue or yellow still, so gold might be slightly more flattering than silver, or vice-versa, but you should be able to wear all three metals :)
@@tm6408 thanks for the info! I've found that I look better in more cool tone palettes than warm, silver dominates my jewellery box, but earth tones are our most suitable palettes I believe. Those darker shades of green, olive green, khaki, moss... Autumnal colours like dark orange and deep red... having green undertone can be tricky but in the end of the day you just have to find what works for you
@@tm6408 it's really weird I'm olive toned aswell and look better im silver jewelry and cool toned foundation but when it comes to hair colour clothes and blush/eyeshadow cool toned colours look really gross but warm tones are iit 😩 like I straight up use orange eyeshadow as blush and it looks like it's part of my skin
I would say blue and gold is a very classic combination, even though blue is a cool colour. So I would not consider that such a wild of a combination. A lot of blue and navy blazers has gold buttons, etc.
Nicely explained. I avoid mixing metals, always thought it looked weird, but I see now that it's because I wear very few pieces and they're far apart, so there isn't any nice contrast effect. And the statement about hardware on bags being usually gold was really surprising! In my experience, vintage bags/shoes/belts are often gold, but modern ones are almost always silver. I'm always looking for gold hardware and having hard time.
Learning so much! 🤓🤓 I love your new jewelry collection but I have trouble with combining colors for almost everything. Taking it one step at a time though. Love your videos!!
My favorite earrings for day are silver discs with two thin gold raised stripes...they go with silver or gold necklaces etc. Those earrings elevate everything I wear.
Beautiful jewellery. Bought the earcuff last year and I've received many complements. Now have my eye on the swirly studs in rose gold and silver which is a departure from my usual silver-only palette.
Hi Justine, thanks a lot for those insights! I really enjoy your videos - even though most of them cater to women, I find them to be very interesting and informing (fast fashion), and sometimes even applicable to me (skin undertone, jewellery). So: I am totally down for the “how to be perceived based on your colour palette” follow-up video! ✌️
Also, I love that you consider all skin undertones in your collections! Please let us know in case you’ll ever happen to release some men’s/unisex clothing items or jewellery (like maybe some leather bracelets 👀).
Justine, I love your channel and hear your voice as I declutter my closet this season. I have a challenge that I see no one yet addressing. That is how to purge jewelry. How do you choose what works and what to do with jewelry that you’d like to let go of. Also, I wear scarves mostly as accessory, rather than jewelry and would like tips on how to reconsider jewelry as an option.
So many, young and old, living happily ignorant or don’t care about these “rules”, finding their own style, so precious and free, what they think look pretty, and looking just beautiful.❤
Merci, Justine! I've long been a metal mixer, but haven't ever considered most of what you lay out here. I feel silly, because your breakdown is so logical & thoughtful. Now I'll be a bit more intentional when mixing my metals. I laughed when you got to the hardware on handbags, something that has always bugged me. Over the years, I've chafed against the idea that my handbag gets to dictate what jewelry I wear, so my solution: ignore it. No handbag is going to tell me what to do! And this is coming from a woman with far too many bags (I love them!). So if I have a bag with gold hardware & I'm wearing silver, I just keep the bag away from my upper body. Not the most elegant solution, but it works for me. Or at least I think it works for me. Maybe others are scandalized when they see me!
So interesting, I've intuitively combined in these ways but now I understand the method behind my madness :) My favourite is rose gold but I find it more difficult to find than solid yellow or white gold.
My favorite combo is a huge silver ring with a ruby mixed with brass bracelets that afriend brought me back from burkina faso. I love the contrast between the two metals (and as long as I'm not wearing that in the summer I don't end up green from the brass)
I am a cool girl (thank you Justine!). When I buy for myself I buy silver. I have gold earrings and they do get many compliments. The earrings steal the show! They are beautiful pieces and were given to me many years ago. I enjoyed your video. See you next time! ❤️ Suzy
Thank you for your informative and lovely videos. Love them! To answer your Q about how we see you: You do seem cooler-toned on video. I'm a bright winter and have found that I can wear bright shiny gold with silver but rose gold or very yellow gold especially when close to my face makes me look 'hot/red'.
I have mixed gold and silver jewerly and I look great in it. I have been complemented many times, once I even got stopped at Macy's about my two colored earrings!😆 I am light cool olive and silver is to strong for my complexion but gold washes me out a bit, however combination of both looks amazing! So you just never know!
Hi, J. You guessed right, I (we) always thought you’re undertone is cool 😆. It’s so nice to know and learn how to mix metals that works out for you. I never would have considered those points. Congratulations on your Adèle V-necks hoping to order mine soon 😊. Is the Claire and Adèle have the same v-neck depth?
Justine, you look so gorgeous in this video! I love a cat eye and a red or tinted lip, but your makeup here is absolutely GOALS! I also suspected that you were neutral, and it’s really fascinating to see that for you, the colour you’re wearing, contrasts beautifully with your skin (in my opinion) meaning in the blue (cool) top, your skin looks gently sun kissed and glowing (leaning warm); in the green (warm) top, your skin looks more translucent and rosy (leaning cool). I loved this, thank you!
Personal comment: really like the makeup and hair style. Nice change. But you always look pretty, stylish, and highly accomplished in any case. Tremendously enjoy your videos and they are very thoughtful and helpful presentations. Thank you.
Your video that explains undertones really made a big difference in my wardrobe and makeup. Now I have a boost of color to naturally compliment my presentation that is subtle and yet powerful. Thank you for this as well Justine! Very well done! :)
Justine: When my hair was beginning to gray and a mix of gray and brown, I liked wearing a combination of silver and gold jewelry - it seemed to help with the transition. I usually wear silver (cool undertones) jewelry.
Great video! 🙏🏻 as per usual super educational ! Definitely brings value to me. I have a natural undertone and love to wear silver and rosegold. I appreciate your effort in making this video✨ thanks
This was very helpful! I am cool toned and have lots of silver jewelry, but I bought some pieces in gold to try it out, but couldn't quite make it work. I'll try again with very cool toned clothes. Also, I love your long hair, Justine! It looks soooo beautiful!
I just got the new Chanel 19 purse and they have mixed metals on it. I would have never thought about mixing metals but for some reason, it looks good. I am a warmer tone so I enjoy wearing gold.
I have a neutral undertone as well, and I've always gravitate towards golden accessories because my wardrobe is made of several white and earthy tones, however I enjoy using deep cool tones in the winter which match perfectly with my silver jewerly.
Justine thank you for another inspiring video! :) I love rose gold and it's great to have your blessing to mix it with other metals :) I mostly gravitate to muted "gold" color casual jewelry, bohemian-ish style, and occasionally feel like a rose gold accent. Would absolutely love it if you could made a video about creating a look that is very casual yet very sexy and feminine. Is there a specific style that works best for that purpose? I'm exploring boho but open to other ideas! Very interested what your advice would be!
Thanks for another interesting video! I remember after watching your video on skin tones and trying to determine my skin tone, I eventually was convinced that I was neutral :) which might not be the case yet I seem to like wearing both gold and silver... Thanks for the tips on how to pair both and also how to accentuate the jewelry through pairing with different undertone garments, that is something I am yet to try.
I have also noticed that there is way more gold jewelry on the market! This is probably giving them a bit too much credit, but of the influencers, I know most (like Lucy Williams, Estee Lalonde, etc) most are very into gold chains/ gold jewelry in general and have made jewelry lines that are pretty much all gold. I think people are really attracted to the tanned skin with golden jewelry look, but sadly that is not a look I can achieve as a very pale cool-toned person :) Loved the video as always!
Very interesting video, as are most of your videos, Justine! Merci beaucoup! I always have trouble choosing the right size of jewelry. How long should the necklace be? I am 186 cm tall and does that mean I shouldn't wear delicate pieces? And I love your eye make up in this video. Can you show us how you made this eyelook? Thanks for all your efforts to help us being more stylish.
Ok super interested in colour blocking thing about perceiving what colour outfit you are!! Also in every video of Justin I hv to use my brain, no excuse! We take them seriously..no mindlessly binging
I've always preferred to wear silver jewelry, and I've always been frustrated by my lack of handbag choices because they usually have gold hardware. Have you ever thought of designing handbags?
I have actually. Then Covid came and I thought: let's not add additional problems to the challenge of starting an accessory line by myself... Maybe in the future!
I remember in the 2000s silver and white gold was fashionable and yellow gold was seen cheap looking, Now gold has become the more popular. But I personally think that both can look good for both skin types, it is just depends on what kind of vibe do you want to create :)
Hey Justine, you look very nice today. I did the skin undertone test you suggested and it showed that I have a warm undertone. If I have a warm undertone, what color clothes do you recommend I wear?
Hi Justine, I have a question regarding brands that have a “middle” price point like a lot of Scandinavian brand (like Ganni, Stine Goya) who have amazing pieces but use a lot of polyester and charge higher price points. Is there “better” polyester? Or are they charging the customers more money because of branding and based on the style? I’m a little conflicted, because I like the pieces but as a customer I feel like the companies are charging us too much for polyester. Have a lovely day! Love from Sweden 🇸🇪
Hi, Justine! I love your videos and the great information that you share. I love big, chunky chokers, bracelets, and rings. I usually wear silver, however, I do have a bit of rose gold and gold. I also wear bronze or copper. I am a cool-toned brunette lady, and I normally wear deep jewel-toned clothing, especially ruby red, sapphire or royal blue, royal purple, and on rare occasions true emerald green. I also wear a black and white palette, or charcoal gray, very well.
A great video, your jewellery always looks great - I love it to make a statement too. I am very cool toned and usually wear silver, but I have started mixing in a little yellow gold: a mixed silver and gold pendant or brass cuff with a silver cuff. I haven't actually tried rose gold but it looked lovely mixed with silver.
